  2. I'm starting to have doubts about them winning this game.
  3. Well if Reyes was slated to be traded those plans just went down the drain. (for those not watching he just got smoked on the wrist with a pitch and it didn't look good)
  4. So I'm guessing that Jacob -- currently in the minors but up for a time with the ChiSox earlier in the year -- is the son of Lee Jr. Jacob is listed as having been born in Williamsport, PA in January of 1992 - right after Lee Jr, now 49, was finishing up his one and only season in AA Williamsport
  5. I think he's suggesting deGrom
  6. Lee May - 74 18 year (1965 - 1982) major league 1B (and occasional OF) with Cincinnati, Houston, Baltimore, and Kansas City 3x All-Star, 354 career HRs Brother of ML'er Carlos and grandfather of current Chicago White Sox OF Jacob May
  7. Puts a Simon & Garfunkel song in my head although I can't imagine that it's in the soundtrack. With lyrics like: 'born one dark gray morn with music coming in my ears / they call me Baby Driver' this song can't NOT be part of the soundtrack Lotsa music and lotsa driving in this one so that song plays over the closing credits. Fun flick this one is, unless I suppose if one has some sort of objection to stylized violence. Out of left field cameo appearances by the likes of RHCP's Flea and 1970s songwriter/singer Paul Williams
  8. Trade deadline, btw, is 4 PM EDT on Monday. Deals don't always get announced by the cut-off, but since the dawning of the Age of Twitterquarius nothing should lag too long past the finish line meaning no late-night floor pacing on our day off.
  9. - too many missed chances w/runners on - one bad inning by JdG - bad error by Walker
  10. Five runners LOB in the last two innings. Not good.
  11. Manager Scott Servais pulled his starter with a shutout last night and he does it again here. btw, relievers Tony Zych (in the game now) and David Aardsma both played for the Mariners but, alas, never at the same time which is a damn shame because ... well it just is.
  12. Lucas + baseball = 3rd deck in YSIII* Tied the game in the 8th. Also 2 walks and a Sac Fly * I noticed that BB-Ref lists the home park in the Bronx as YSIII, not 2 (or II) as most do. I previously thought only we did that, or maybe BB-Ref is another outlet that monitors this place

  14. bmfc1 wrote: That's probably it but he's better than Ramos or likely anyone else out there so if they are "all in" on 2018 I hope that he at least had the discussion. The other thing is that the big money is in closing (read: saves) so Reed would have to forego FA-gency and the likely multi-year deal AND accept less money to stay because he knows he's not likely to close here once Familia gets back.
  15. bmfc1 wrote: I'm wondering why they just didn't talk to Reed now about staying. They'd have to pay him, what? $9,750,000 ... Because Reed is going to be a 29 y/o FA and guys in that spot are quite unlikely to simply take a one-year contract and hope that they doesn't regress/get hurt and blow the chance to 'test the waters' next year. Shit, he saw Brett Freaking Cecil get 4/$30 last winter and Aroldis Chapman 5/$86 (w/an opt-out) so he's probably looking at those as his goalposts. Plus if history has taught us anything it's that counting on long-term projections for relievers is kinda dicey, so I think Sandy would prefer to have 220 or so games out of a closer/set-up type at a (more or less) known price than have to buy one for 3-4 years at market rates and risk being without a chair when the music stops if you're not prepared to outbid everyone else.
  16. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: “Of the 400 days of [big league] service time I had, I probably smoked on 150 of them,” he told me. “A lot of guys would wake up at 9 a.m. and smoke, but I never wanted to do anything mind-altering until after the game.” Jordany Valdespin? 2012 rookie infielder, 3 orgs (NYM, MIA, DET), though not exactly retired (playing in Mexico). All Star (Turner) + I don't know, Andres Torres + Santana = ~23 years I was thinking when I was reading that article yesterday that the 'infielder - now retired - 400 days of ML service, etc.' description is only vaguely disguising things and that it shouldn't take too much research to narrow that down quite quickly if one were of a mind to do so. Valdespin amassed just a bit more than half of that 400 days of service time mentioned. It's also tough to see him talking to too many reporters ... or vice versa.
  17. Local boy doing good! Cespedes ... not so much.
  18. Yup! Yanx streaking just as things are getting rough in Boston (losers of 5 of 6). Things are also getting a bit ugly concerning David Price in Beantown. He's been put on the DL (again!) with the same elbow issues that DL'd him earlier in the season. And then there's this spat he's had going with part time announcer Dennis Eckersley which has no one looking good from the combatants to Red Sox mgmt. One of the columnists from the Boston Herald absolutely lets loose on Price today ... You all know by now how Price ambushed Eck last month on the team plane, verbally assaulting him as a number of his weak-kneed teammates applauded. Then Price went back to his seat, I was told, and put on a pair of sunglasses as if he was The Terminator. It was midnight. Guys who wear sunglasses at midnight are either beaten fighters or morons. Price has never been in a fight in his life, so there you go. There have even been hints that this whole thing is getting racial as if that's never happened in Boston sports before.
  19. Reviewing Ramos: came up w/Miami at age 25 in 2012, been the closer since 2015, a good but not quite dominant one: combined stats 2015-'17 = 2.79 ERA, 1.21 WHIP. Hits allowed are low at 127 in 174 IP with lots of K's but also a decent amount of walks: 207 K / 83 BB Turns 31 in Sept; under control for 2018 via his last year of arb, so price TBD
  20. Certainly not the type of deal I expected during deadline week; both because the sellers turn into buyers and it's an in-division deal. So either Sandy is figuring that he and Jeurys are 2018's 1-2 punch or he'll be re-flipped before the weekend is out.
  21. Duda HRs off Tananka in the 7th in da Bronx Unfortunately that was just the 2nd hit for the Rays who are down 5-1
  22. And the hits just keep on coming ... Mets OF prospect and their 2nd round 2015 (53rd overall) draft pick Desmond Lindsay underwent Ulnar Nerve Transposition surgery on Friday morning at the Hospital for Special Surgery, the team announced. Lindsay will miss the remainder of the season but is expected to be ready for Spring Training next February. Not sure whether or not this was the cause of, or contributed to, his poor season [.220 BA, 77 K in 214 AB] but that's essentially your "funny bone" nerve so one can see where a misaligned one of those would be a less than ideal condition for a hitter.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: ... and he lives happily ever after apart from his six games every third year against the Mets. Or he signs with Philly in the off-season and we see him 18 times/year.
  24. He finished 2016 as the 38th best NYM ever on the CPF Rankings Project -- right behind Dave Kingman and ahead of John Stearns -- and has a chance to move up as many as 10 more slots when the 2017 season is factored in. Missing so much of 2016 almost certainly kept him from being a Top-25
  25. Good sound would help (or HELP!) as one of the best features of it was old clips that had obviously been restored by some method or other to where they didn't sound like your first transistor radio. Not sure I learned much of anything I hadn't already known but was still an enjoyable 90 minutes or so.
