1. He had a 1.52 ERA/1.31 WHIP in his two month stint w/the Braves last season [27 games, 23.2 IP] following his July 30th trade from the O's ... which likely proves nothing more than how variable relievers can be, especially when SSS data is involved. Is from Freehold NJ and Monmouth U
2. Good God, the last thing I'd want to do is tie something to 'Rumble Ponies'! At least that name had something of a tie to Binghamton and was the winner in a vote of locals - even if it was nothing more than a plurality winner among other tepid options. I thought the thinking was that, because Syracuse is now Wilpon-owned, the inevitability was that they were to be renamed 'Mets' from the traditional (if somewhat politically dicey) Chiefs. Most minor league affiliates are owned independently with little or no input from the parent club. For better or worse, Eff & Jeff will have the final say in this case.
3. I've long thought that the team in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre should be named the 'Hyphens', or maybe the 'Punctuations' That purveyor of two-named nicknames and the marketing that goes along with it which is now almost universally used among minor league clubs -- 'Hey let's stand out as different by using the exact same approach that 90% of our competitors already use' -- is a firm out of San Diego called 'Brandiose' Of course it is.
4. I just love the fact that this NYM run has made me care about the out of town scoreboard. It's much tougher to care when you hate the sport as much as many of us did a few months ago.
5. Wait a minute ... y'mean we have to wait until Friday to beat somebody?!? That just doesn't seem right.
6. Getting Holaday to end the game and beat the rain here ... it would be so nice.
7. Cardinals @ Dodgers -- 3:10 EDT today, noon local time -- is also a game concerning us. Dodgers aren't getting caught by anyone, but the Redbirds are in the midst of things mucking up the WC works.
8. Almost a 1-2-3 inning for Familia ... so that counts as progress.

10. They'll stop doing stuff like this when we fans quit rushing to buy the replica versions of whatever they throw up there.
11. JCL's answer is pretty much on target. Both attained similar ranks in their lone full seasons: Alomar was judged to be the 5th best NYM in the down year of 2002 while Rickey was tabbed as 6th best in 1999. Now one could argue that Rickey had the tougher draw because of better teammates but our system compensates for that to a degree as the much better team record in 2000 gained RH a nearly 30% higher score as compared to RA in 2002 despite finishing one spot lower on the totem pole. The difference comes up in their respective second NYM seasons. Alomar managed to hang around long enough in year two to grab 300+ PA and himself some middle of the pack (16th) points. Rickey, on the other hand, was gone by mid-May with barely 100 trips to the plate including just One XBH* under his belt. That earned him just a single point in 2000 (30th best NYM) where even finishing as low as 26th best that year (or Alomar being one or more slots lower in 2003) would have been enough to reverse their final standings. * You may even recall that it was the lack of a second XBH which caused his departure. Rickey smoked a hard liner to LF and, mis-judging either the distance or the top-spin, immediately went into his HR trot. Turned out that his "HR" was barely far enough to short-hop the wall and by the time Rickey was reaching 1st base the ball was already back in the infield. His subsequent post-game claims that he had hit that ball far enough to be a homer and therefore it wasn't his fault that he wound up with a single rather than a double certainly did help matters. Nor did the fact that he was hitting .219 at the time. If I've got the game right -- and I think I do [Henderson singles to Deep LF] -- it was his final hit as a Met. He wasn't in the lineup for the next game until getting double-switched into the field for the 9th inning. The Mets announced his release later that night.
12. Christian Yelich now has a league-leading 39 HRs, three more than he had the entire year of his MVP 2018 season. He's also hitting for a higher BA this year [.336 to .326] a higher OBA [.428 to .402] a higher SLG Avg [.705 to .597] and of course a higher OPS/OPS+ [1133/185 vs 1000/164] And if that weren't enough, he's stolen 23 bases in 25 attempts (last year: 22/26) He's tops in the NL in HRs, 2nd in batting (to McNeil), and T-6 in RBI so a Triple Crown isn't out of the question. He's also tops in Offensive WAR, OBA, and SLG. T-5 in Runs scored, 4th in Hits, 1st in TB, T-3 in SB ... among a bunch of other stuff And did I mention that this improvement is over an MVP season? At the time of that off-season Marlins fire sale I said that I'd be tempted to bet on the remainder of Yelich's career over Stanton's. That position looked wrong after year one but Yelich has been the far better player in the 2nd & 3rd years, and is looking more than good going forward.
13. RF corner HR just barely over the fence for Conforto's 100th career. Or, as they'd call it if it was hit in a different NYC borough, 27 rows deep.
14. LGFM is the acronym the Mets' groupies wear.
15. Guillorme was hitting every bit as well in AAA as Herrera, or as Danny Espinosa for that matter. Those other guys will give you more power (15 HRs for DE, 22 for Dilson) but Luis's .307/.412 BA/OBA (w/7 HRs in fewer ABs than the other two) is nothing to sneeze at and he's not nearly as whiff-happy -- exactly 100 each already for DH & DE in just 320 & 378 ABs vs AAA hurlers. It's been a while since I've seen Espinosa play and, at 32 y/o, he may be slowing down at this point, but he was a terrific fielder at any infield position back in the day. As we saw last night, Hechavarria & Guillorme can put on a show leather-wise. Dilson is the only one of that group who'd be faking it at SS; he barely played there in the minors and never in ML. IIRC he doesn't have the arm and may not have the range. The problem with having Hechavarria & Guillorme on the team at the same time is that they're pretty much clones of each other except that Guillorme swings lefty which, along with already being on the 40-man, is what likely got him this week's call-up. Espinosa switch hits. All things to consider.
16. If that's the actual JM puppy they gotta name it 'Bandit'

Looks like the mets needed to get 4 outs?
19. The problem with Guillorme's walk-up music is that this Luis is the furthest thing from being 'whiter than white'.

21. 'Oh don't worry. The replay rule will never be used to overturn microscopic calls ... only the obvious ones'
22. A Boy Named Seo wrote: I was in and out of the kitchen making dinner so might have missed it entirely, but I wasn't sure Rojas touched first before his knee failed him. Did he? Yeah, the non-touch of 1B appeared to be the ruling. My first reaction was that it shouldn't have been called otherwise although I wasn't 100% sure either way. The 'did he or didn't he?' turn once past 1st was always one of the most mis-interpreted call in weekend softball games. I've seen cases where the batter/runner was called out for merely starting his return to 1st by turning leftward (counter-clockwise) instead of clockwise even while doing so right on the line.
23. Diaz, Game 1 -- 28 pitches to get 3 outs Lugo, Game 2 -- 23 pitches to get 6 outs
24. Alonso was pumped by that one, even before it went out. You could tell this slump's been eating at him.
