  1. Mr. Rod announced a week or two ago that he has withdrawn himself from broadcasting any games involving the Mets while the bidding/buying process is still ongoing.
  2. Well, more than just one AB After two were out and no one on in the 9th, four of the next six Braves hitters reached base. Five of six if you want to count the guy on 2nd via the 'magic double'.
  3. I liked our chances a lot better before those two lazy fly balls.
  4. Seems like we've seen this movie before.
  5. Y'know, if we send Alonso down now (he's clearly not ready) and keep him there for a few weeks we can delay his FA status by a year. Just sayin' Just kiddin'
  6. One or two of those 'hit' things would be nice.
  7. And to round out the field ... Eddie Rosario of the Twins is the left fielder in question. There may be Twins fans who didn't get that one but he's been in LF on OD for Mini soda in every season aside from his first when he was a mid-year call-up. The trade of Mookie Betts cleared the deck for a RF'er to sneak in with a low number and that sneak was the Cubs' Jason Heyward. He's actually started in five straight opening days for the Cubbies but four years ago it was in CF so his RF streak only started after that. And it's easy to miss that this is the start of Justin Verlander's third full(ish) season in Houston following his deadline deal to the Astros in 2017, and it's also the third straight OD starting assignment POSPLAYERTEAMYrsAll-Time CYadier MolinaStL16Yadier Molina, StL, 16 1BJoey VottoCIN12Joe Judge, 17 WSH Senators 2BJose AltuveHOU9Lou Whitaker, 17, DET Tigers 3BNolan ArenadoCOL6Brooks Robinson, 20, BAL Orioles SSElvis AndrusTEX12Cal Ripken, 14, BAL rioles LF=#0080FF]Eddie Rosario=#00BFFF]MIN=#00BFFF]5Lou Brock, 13, StL Cardinals CFMike TroutLAA8Willie Mays, 19 SF Giants RF=#00BFFF]Jason Heyward=#00BFFF]CHC=#00BFFF]3Roberto Clemente, 15 PIT Pirates PMax ScherzerWAS3Robin Roberts, 12 PHI Phillies P=#00BFFF]Justin Verlander=#00BFFF]HOU=#00BFFF]3Robin Roberts, 12 PHI Phillies
  8. So, the game had its first' tiebreaker' rule enacted Friday night. For the record Shohei Ohtani was the first player to hit a "magic double" as Gary Cohen has suggested it be named. Problem was that Ohtani then got thrown out at 3rd on a grounder to 1st ... which was a double shame as the next batter singled. The Angels then popped out, walked and grounded out to kill the inning. The bottom half of the 10th saw Hansel Robles on the mound to face the A's. So he plunks the first hitter; got a K for the first out but then threw a Wild Pitch followed by a walk [bases loaded / one out]. Out goes Robles, in comes someone named Hoby Milner (sounds like a ranch hand in on old western movie) ... who proceeds to give up a Grand Slam on his very first pitch. Thanks for not coming, please stay home safely.
  9. There are live fans at Wrigley. Well not IN Wrigley Field but while the Cubs can close their stadium to spectators they don't control the buildings across the street so the roof-tops there have (sparsely packed) people in those seats making it so that there are at least some live bodies watching baseball so far this season.
  10. The good thing about the new set-up for this year is that if the Mets win this game I believe they clinch a playoff spot.
  11. This one was an obvious and almost automatic tribute, but a nice one none the less. [FIMG=450]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/07/Mets-honor-Anthony-Causi.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1[/FIMG]

  13. =G-Fafif post_id=41548 time=1595630874 user_id=55] Cespedes has a homer. DeGrom has a zero ERA. Rojas has the Mets are alone in first. Six months ago, you would have taken it and asked for no details.
  14. We didn't hit much, but we held them to just three and two of those were softies.
  15. We can dance, we can dance, everybody look at your hance.
  16. OK Edwin, time to show us how last year was the outlier.
  17. A fan just took a foul ball in the noggin #expandthenetting

  24. Frayed Knot wrote: And, yes, Scherzer is one of the two pitchers with Three consecutive same-team/OD assignments Not sure I understand. Scherzer has 6 consecutive years starting for Washington, yes? But Scherzer was NOT the OD starter for the Nats in 2017, Strasburg was. The question involves consecutive starting assignments at each position for one team. Scherzer took the mound for the Nats on Opening Day in '18, '19, and then last night.
