  1. I think it would be cool if the only guy allowed in the Wrigley stands for this round were Bartman
  2. Indians for all the obvious reasons. Rays because they're the best team, and because they beat up the MFY during the season, and because the Rays/Jays survivor will face the NYY/CLE winner And then Twins & A's just for a change of pace since they'd face each other in the next round so ONE OF THEM would finally advance to the ALCS
  3. So we out-hit the Nats today AND out-XBH them ... and yet somehow found a way to lose by a touchdown plus a field goal. The 11 walks allowed plus the HBP might have had something to do with it.
  4. Starts Tuesday, Best of Three, No days off, all games at stadium of higher seed #1 vs #8 -- Jays @ Rays #2 vs #7 -- ChiSox @ A's #3 vs #6 -- Astros @ Twins #4 vs #5 -- Yanx @ seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" Exact schedules yet to be announced ... except that the Yanx and Tom Brady will get all the prime time slots.
  5. Just as a refresher course: Starting Wednesday, best of three, no days off, all games at the stadium of the higher seed #1 vs # 8 -- Brewers @ Dodgers #2 vs #7 -- Reds @ Braves #3 vs #6 -- Marlins @ Cubs (will Bartman be there??) #4 vs #5 -- Cardinals @ Padres
  6. Yeah, Matz was always paid year to year so far (good thing!!!) so he'll still be a year away from FA-gency next season [5 years + 99 days to start the '21 season] Even if they wanted to keep him they could still non-tender him and try to resign him as a FA but he's making "only" $5 mil this year so, based just on service time alone, I'm not sure they could come in much under that even coming off this horrible a year. Someone is likely to take a shot at a not-yet 30 y/o pitcher on a one-year shot.
  7. The line by Howard Cosell late in his career after he turned against boxing comes to mind here: 'Don't they understand that they're conducting a case for the abolition of the sport?' And it's not just the score but the overall quality of play. I mean, Voth absolutely sukked in the 1st & 2nd inning and he's going to win this game in a walkover. Oh yeah, and it's an hour and a half into the game and not yet out of the 3rd frame.
  8. I woke up with those and I spent the DH on the couch.
  9. I ain't buying it. Plus, as mentioned, he was at his worst while hitting 4th early in the season. A handful of ABs at the end doesn't change that.
  10. Multiple strike-outs with a runner on 3rd .... so what else is new?
  11. 1) the position in the batting order doesn't cause a player to do better or worse 2) Pete was killing this team early on when he was hitting almost exclusively in the 4th slot
  12. Not sure what an alternate ending would be since I never saw the original ending ... or the original beginning. I & II are among my favorite movies of all time but I've never even been tempted to take a gander at III
  13. We may be headed for not only a sweep but for a seven-hour / 14- inning sweep.
  14. =G-Fafif post_id=47504 time=1601161172 user_id=55] Retirement announcements have begun with ... Hunter Pence of the 2016 Giants.
  15. I guess it's in Keith's contract that he can't work double-headers. Hope he enjoys cocktail hour
  16. They're still gonna make us play this one folks. Parcello vs A. Sachez
  17. The booth is being too politic to say so, but Cano should have been on 3rd to start with.
  18. And as soon as I talk about degree having a high pitch count it went from high to ridiculous even though almost no one hit the ball hard.
  19. Even when JdG is on his game --2 singles, no waks, and a solo HR (now 3 singles) -- he's never on a low pitch count. Still not out of the 4th and he's over 5 inning's worth of pitches.
  20. I suspect that newspaper writers probably had a big hand in such things back in the day. Somebody nicknamed Ruth Babe at some point but that wasn't what his NYY teammates called him. Around the clubhouse he was neither Babe nor George but 'Jidge', a name derived from Gehrig's mother's attempt at George.
  21. https://twitter.com/TimBritton/status/1309537530988187648https://twitter.com/TimBritton/status/1309537530988187648 Yanx aren't cooperating [3-2 Marlins in the 8th] Padres aren't cooperating [5-1 SFG after 6 in Game 1] Rays & Phils are tied thru 7 ... Philly was up 4-1 early but, y'know, bullpen
  22. DH on Saturday starting at 1500 (3 PM)
  23. He's yet to replace Norm as my favorite all-time Peterman ... but he's closing ground quickly.
  24. The other owners aren't going to approve or not approve Cohen based on what they think he might spend. And speculating what Sandy will spend is silly. He GM'd in Oakland where there was no money and for the Wilpons while they were deep in debt. Those are circumstances, not an unchangeable trend.
  25. So it has come down to this, a battle to avoid last place in the NLE Mets are currently two games up on the Gnats and they've so far split the season series 3-3 meaning that we need a split or better of these four games to stay out of the cellar. Losing 3 of 4 here would put the two teams in a tie but also give the Nats the 6-4 head-to-head advantage for the year and therefore the tie-breaker for 4th/5th place. And obviously a Washington sweep gives them 4th place outright. So of the five potential outcomes here [4-0, 3-1, 2-2, 1-3, 0-4] three of them favor us.
