I turned off the game for a bit (enough to watch JEOPARDY) right at the pitching change (1st & 3rd, none out) and came back fully expecting StL to be in double digits. Sounds like a nice job by Castro
Another couple of mighty blows w/RiSP: weak pop, weak grounder, weak pop. And the runner itself was the result of a weak pop. But we are the beneficiary of the charity of others so creep a bit closer.
After the Baez HR, the Mets had nine separate PAs with the potential to win the game. ONE got the ball out of the infield, a Pillar bases empty FO The others were a K, a BB, Foul Out, and five weak grounders.
It's nice that his ball went out because two feet shorter and it's his third base running mistake of the game and if that thing is in play and he's on 1st because he's looking to the dugout posing I'd have pulled him from the game immediately and would be tempted to release him by morning.
I don't think the Mets have even had an out out of the infield since JDD's PH Fly Out to open the 6th. And now we have the third NYM error of the game.
he can hit. -- a sub 100 OPS+ in his last full season when he was 36 y/o. He'll turn 39 in a few weeks with 40-some games played over two full years no one cares about steroids -- yes they do I'm not even going to ask why a Jeter comment in in there
Mets have now had 153 PAs this year with the bases loaded. They have 89 RBIs in those situations but 35% of those (31) have come via non-hits: 15 BB, 10 SF, 6 HBP leaving 59 RBI that have come via hits (.213 BA)
As per the other thread, the good, the bad, the lucky, and the stupid of Javy Baez all rolled up in a span of a couple pitches. A two out bunt: unpredictable but not real well executed; got lucky to get the run in Getting forced out at 2nd: stupid and/or lazy; ended an inning prematurely
