  1. It would be so 2021 if that ill-fated send was the end of our scoring for the night.
  2. It's early yet, but the Phils still haven't scored against the O's this week. Shut out 2-0 last night, down 1-0 thru 4 tonight. and Gary is reading my stuff again
  3. Edgy MD wrote: This guy is way too cute with his pitches. Which is exactly why you don't just hand them outs. Bad send.
  4. Willets Point wrote: The Mets are facing the deadly Bases Loaded With No Outs Challenge. And with JDD up too. The king of the bases loaded K
  5. Willets Point wrote: The NESN reporter in the stands with the 7 Train Army says that Mets fans are "much nicer than Yankees fans." I remember a waitress in Baltimore telling my group the same thing during the very first year of inter league play. OTOH, the NESN guy is probably contractually obligated to say what he said.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: Having just watched the second installment, Lenny was fire, as the kids' say. I got the idea he (a) insisted on being paid for is contributions, ( insisted on getting the money up front and in cash, (c) spent it all before the cameras started rolling, and (d) told the interviewer "nobody needs to know about this." I got the idea he was a one-time prize fighter who lost often via early knockouts and was now suffering the long-term consequences.
  7. So Lemny comes across as a deep and thoughtful thinking man's player, eh?
  8. Yanx up by a skinny run vs TEX heading into the 9th Chapman coming in to protect the lead but he hasn't been real good at that lately.
  9. Phils shutout by Orioles 2-0 Braves open in Arizona later tonight exact minute cross-post with bmfc
  10. The Sawx have a 2.5 game lead over MFY-nation and a three game series at home this weekend to further that. And if that's not enough then maybe they'll be in the play-in game against the Yanx and have another chance to take care of things that way. Plus maybe they wouldn't be in this precarious position had they not been one of the teams playing the part of road kill during the Yanx' 13-game win streak back in August. So if losing one or both games during this little two-game series with us puts too big a dent in their playoff plans then that's their fucking problem not ours. I ain't watching this week wishing to help other teams' goals or hoping for a better draft slot.
  11. So the AL WC race currently has the Yanx on the outside looking in as the AL East holds the top three teams fighting for the right to play each other in a single game elimination Our next opponent sits atop with surging Toronto just one game back. The Yanx look to gain but also have to watch Oakland hot on their tail and if the A's stumble the not-yet out-of-it M's are almost by definition the beneficiary (see below) BOS +1.0 TOR --- NYY -1.5 OAK -2.0 SEA -4.0 BoSox have an all NYC week: two vs NYM then a weekend series vs the Yanx, all at Fenway, sandwiched around days off on MON & THU No days off for the Jays this week (why would they want them? -- 15-3 in Sept) as they're in Tampa for three then Minnesota for four Yanx host the Rangers for three starting Monday ahead of the Fenway trip The A's host SEA in a BIG four game series, then HOU for three ... they then finish IN SEA & HOU for three each [Astros up by 6 & 8 in the division] The Mariners do @ OAK, @ LAA, then home for those same two squads to finish out
  12. Since Dom's double, not a single ball out of the infield.
  13. Did Baez see even a single strike in that AB? He saw maybe 8 or 9 pitches but I'm not sure even one was in the zone.
  14. Dom clearly failed to read 'Stranding For Dummies' even though its on the required list
  15. Why did I see that (Harper running) coming the entire time but no NYM on the field did?
  16. Yeah, don't over-complicate things. If the eye(s) in the sky can track the speed, trajectory, launch angles, and distances of batted balls across the acreage of the ball field then it can track it into (or not) a more or less static box. And, unlike the umps mask, it won't take a wicked foul tip into the electronics four or five times per game. Gary, who tends to be against this sort of progress and has previously described the minor league trials of ROBO-UMP as disastrous, admitted the other night that more recent results have shown great improvement. He added (or has resigned himself) that this is coming and it could be within five years. Personally, I'd like it here in the next five weeks but Manfred's office has asked for my input lately. Not sure of the source for these status reports Gary is passing along or whether they're even reports at all but rather just anecdotal tidbits. Between this sort of stuff, the CBA, and (hopefully) some kind of commitment to REAL pace of play adjustments, this could be a real big off-season for the sport above and beyond just the usual FA/trade news.
  17. In a nod to Cleon Jones, the umps were checking the ball for nail polish.
  18. A questionable, almost to the point of panic, move by GIrardi IMO (pulling Nola w/2 out,/one on)
  19. Runner on 3rd, less than two outs, heart of the order up .... we're doomed.
  20. Judging by the size of the strike zone tonight, it appears that Eric Gregg has lost a lot of weight recently.
  21. 7:15 (or thereabouts) first pitch on FOX Network Carlos Carrasco vs Aaron Nola Mets & Giants doing their best to tighten up the NL East. After Travis d'Arnaud hit a one-out 3R HR in the 9th to put the Braves up 5-4 Friday night, the Giants answered in the bottom half to send it to extras. The Braves managed to go out 1-2-3 with the Magic Man on 2nd in both the 10th & the 11th innings (I would have though that only the NYM could pull that off). Giants won it in bottom 11 when pitcher/pinch-hitter Kevin Gausman hit a Sac Fly for the win. Any self-respecting NYM hitter would have found a way to hit into an easy GiDP in that situation.
  22. It's only a paper move this recall of Szapucki But he doesn't mind the make believe he gets service time for free
