  1. 3137. With a comma. 3137, Nah, that looks shit!l

Write it down What do you think the deal is with McNeil that he might be expendable? Not as good as his all-star stats suggest? Redundant? A personality issue? Maybe the Mets figger he walks first chance he gets? Not exactly 'All-star stats' lately. His OBP fell from the .380's [.381, .384, .383 in 2018, '19, '20] to .319 in 2021; his BA from .319 to .251; his OPS+ from 139 to 88 Those figures don't represent a drop, they show a plummet. Maybe that's just a one-year aberration, I dunno.
  3. I had high hopes for Gsellman a few years back after his ML ascension, as did folks who actually knew about such things. But the BA for such predictions might be about the same as it is for an average ML player.
  4. Fun to watch ... except when he was exasperating Great baserunner ... aside from those times where he was being stupid and there were several of those Magician with the glove ... at least when he wasn't being error prone. Made 20 this season including six in just over 1/4 season (44 starts) as a NYM If the OBP jump was real then he would have been worth retaining but I'd hate to bet on the six week (if that) stretch being the real him and the six year track record, the illusion. And I certainly wouldn't want to extend that bet for seven years.
  5. Yeah, I'm sure it's that she wasn't available for comment and/or wasn't returning calls. And speaking of Disney streaming and a lack of comments: it seems that their streaming service for THE SIMPSONS available in Hong Kong omits an episode where the family is in China and a joke about Tianamen Square is made. The fam comes across a plaque stating that 'On this Spot in 1989 Absolutely Nothing Happened' It's unclear at this point whether Disney is the one who pulled the episode or whether China did, or if it was a mutual decision. Both parties, it seems, are being equally non-communicative about it.
  6. Kind of surprised when I first started hearing about Detroit. Not really the place to commit to for the remainder of your career (or close to it) unless he has reason to believe that they're about to turn the corner.

I know fans have the right to boo and yyybbb, but why do players have to just take it? They don't. A quiet mirror of discontent back on the fans was perfect until its meaning became known. So talented on both sides of the game and outrageously fun to watch. I'll miss him a lot. You're not alone, the fans kind of deserved it. But players are never going to win that kind of war. I understand WHY they did it (although the booing was out of frustration and didn't come within an Alonso HR of abuse) but they would have been better off just letting a slide (no pun intended).
  8. Edgy MD wrote: That's pretty much our strategy. Frayed Knot wrote: Director Peter Jackson claims that Disney wanted the release scrubbed of the Fab Four smoking and swearing. Paul, Ringo, and Olivia Harrison refused to go along. So ... Yoko would have been cool with that? The brief account I read made no mention of her so I don't know if/to what extent Yoko was involved in the process. You'd think she'd have the same right of input as the others but is increasingly infirm in recent years (nearing 90) and maybe just wasn't available for comment while the other three parties went on record.

  10. I like to jump on the more obscure ones first and am pissed to be beaten to Dean Chance.
  11. When I first heard about Semien & Seager signing with the Rangers my first reaction was to question whether either of them could skate ... and then I realized, 'Oh, THOSE Rangers'. So how 'bout Texas coughing up nearly half a billion for a spanking new middle infield? Between that and Robbie Ray heading to Seattle, it seems like maybe the two recent ALW also-rans smell opportunity given all those Houston FAs and Oakland losses (some of it to us)..
  12. Lefty Specialist wrote: With the pickups of Canha, Escobar, Marte and now Scherzer, everybody talks about that they're 'good clubhouse guys'. The comment was specifically made that Scherzer wouldn't have put up with the 'thumbs down' fiasco last year. So it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. It's often said that the every-fifth-day guys can't really be club leaders but there are exceptions and his rep is that he's been one of them. An intense SOB while on the mound, he obviously tones it down on his off days but only to a degree and it tends to rub off on the other pitchers but also on the rest of the cast. Nobody is a miracle worker in this sort of stuff but it's better to be at least part of the solution rather than one adding to whatever problems crop up.
  13. The problem with Eickhoff, aside from the fact that he suxx, is that he was, like, Plan E who got pressed into service far too early when Carrasco, Yamamoto, & Lucchesi all flamed out simultaneously (well, Carrasco wasn't able to answer the bell to start the season). He was designed to be your 'Break Glass in case of Back-to-back DHs' guy but wound as '(temporarily) Introducing Your New 4th Starter' guy
  14. I can live with three years. There will be a decline, but 'Ground Zero' for him is high enough that, barring any shoulder-shredding injuries that render him unusable (see: Santana, Johan), his reduced self should still be purdy darn good.
  15. I keep thinking that the clock is going to run out on Scherzer ... and it certainly will at some point but it hasn't yet.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: So, I guess I'm slogging through this on my own. As long as the only way to view this involves paying (even more) cash to the Mouse/ESPN conglomerate, this will remain unseen by me.
  17. One-time CY winner and NYY disappointment, Corey Kluber, crosses the AL East and signs with TBR
  18. Sometimes it's hard to keep straight, but it's Starling Marte and Starlin Castro
  19. Plus there's the bushel full of walks/HBPs he regularly handed us.
  20. Alas, no Pete Crow-Armstrong in our future

  22. And even if these new acquisitions don't ultimately work out, they've at least provided some excellent subject headings.
  23. Willets Point wrote: Kind of fascinating to think what if George Steinbrenner lived long enough to take advantage of Twitter. He did, he just spent the last four years tweeting from DC under an assumed handle. Circling for a moment from Stevie the Whiner back to Stevie the Pitcher, Matz's season in Toronto was much improved from a W/L & ERA standpoint [14-7; 3.82; 115 ERA+]. But his peripheral numbers remained right in line with his career norms: H/9 = 9.4 in 2021 vs 9.2 overall; HR/9 = 1.1 vs 1.4; BB/9 = 2.6 vs 2.7; K/9 = 8.6 vs 8.6; WHIP = 1.33 vs 1.32 So aside from a slight improvement in HR-rate, that's about as consistently predictable as sports stats get which in turn suggests that the W/L and ERA improvements [115 ERA+ vs 96 career] were the result to some degree of good fortune rather than a 'Eureka' turning of a corner. iow, he is now and is likely to remain something close to what we saw while he was here, at least minus the SSS disaster [6 starts, 3 relief, 9.68 ERA] that was his 2020 season. Could we live with that in the rotation? Sure. Wanna be locked into it for four years on a guy who turns 31 early in year one? ... Now maybe pitching to Yadi (though only for the first year) plus the 15 Gold Glovers that StL throws onto the field every night will make him look better more often than not. Or maybe he will take things up a notch in StL just like those guys I swear the Cards bring off of their grounds crew every year to fill a hole just where they need it.
  24. Unless he's going to be a bit more specific on the "words and promises" thing (and he probably shouldn't) it's a bit tough to judge who's the bad actor in this scenario, all of which leads to the conclusion that he'd have been better off keeping his mouth/twitter shut.
