    Phils will be hosting the Pirates as the week starts (Cooby will keep us up to date). Also Nats @ Boston; Miami @ Colorado; Braves will host StL (starting Tuesday). Couple of real cold streaks of note: involving guys off to early season MVP discussion. - Atlanta catcher Drake Baldwin since returning from his injury on June 16 is 2-for-43 (and 0 for his last 33) with 1 walk and 20 Ks. His season OPS fell from 934 to 800 over an 11 game span - Yanqui 1B Ben Rice, who put up an 1157 OPS in April and a 948 in May, plummeted to 648 in June. He's still hitting HRs (22 on the year) but his OBA has fallen from 443 to 346 to 286

    Texas Rangers DFA Jarred Kelenic Just 10 PAs w/the Rangers: 1 for 8 w/2 BBs and 5 Ks. His numbers in AAA [split between Round Rock (TEX) and Charlotte (CHW)] weren't too bad but it's not like there's a recent track record he can fall back on. Turns 27 in a few weeks.

    I'd certainly bet on it being snowier than Toronto sitting there on the south side of the lake.

    Just to put last week to bed here, I fell asleep prior to most of the Yanx/Sawx action which involved the Yanx scoring twice in top-9 to tie the game then two more in top-10. But that lead lasted just four batters as Boston in bottom 10 tallied an RBI Single - Double - Sac Fly - RBI Single for a three run 10th and a four game sweep. The series knocked the Yanx out of 1st place but wasn't enough to lift Boston out of 5th.

    Benge leading off the 1st with a K is the only out so far that WASN'T w/a RiSP. It's tough to be 0-for-5 w/RiSP after just two innings but this team managed to do so quite easily. FO - FO // FO - PO - FO

    Mets trying to see if they suck in all countries or just their own. Blue Jays, meanwhile, are just happy to see a team from somewhere other than Texas as they're currently riding a six-game losing streak [Astros x 2, Rangers x 4] all of it at home. All of which means that the team which was a play or two away from a WS championship on multiple occasions last October is now sitting in 3rd place in the AL East at 39 - 45 Game one: Monday 7:07 PM (I think that's 7:10 but altered by the exchange rate). Sean Manaea vs Trey Yesavage Yesavage, the big 22 y/o hard-throwing righty who made a splash during last year's post-season. He pitched six games last October, starting five, despite not making his ML debut until mid-September. He's pitching reasonably well this year with a 3.56 ERA in 11 starts. He's stingy with hits [6.1/9] and keeps the ball in the park [0.9 HR/9] but will walk more than his share [4.5/9] and his K-rate is down a chunk from last year [8.6/9 from 10.3 last year]

    And, oddly, one of the few who hasn't hit in the #4 slot is the team's leading HR hitter.

    Cubs failed to challenge a borderline pitch on a 3-2 count and bases-loaded/no-outs in the bottom of the 10th (looked like a strike to me). Don't know what they were thinking (or not thinking. They were up 4-2 at the time but of course 4-3 after the walk ... and they got away with it anyway!! The Brewers followed the bases-loaded gift walk with a shallow foul-out to LF and a GiDP. 4-3 Cubs is your final. They took 2 of 3 from the Brews in this series. Nats win, Marlins lose, Braves scoreless w/SFG in the 6th out on the left coast.

    Four runs scored with half of them coming on one swing (Ewing's PH 2R HR), So the other seven hits (six singles/one double) plus the eight walks and one Philly error all added up to just two runs and, unlike many Met games this year, there were no GiDPs, pick-offs, or caught stealings. No, today, instead of erasing runners today they just stranded 'em all. 2/16 w/RiSP and 14 LOB.

    Shortly after the start of the game Gary mentioned that, now that Eric Wagaman joined the fray, the Mets have now used 13 different clean-up hitters in 84 games this season. Do you want to know who the others were? Well I'm telling you anyway whether you want it or not. Mark Vientos (x 25); Jared Young (20); Luis Robert Jr. (10); Jorge Polanco (6); Bo Bichette (6); Brett Baty (5); Marcus Semien (3); Francisco Lindor (3); Francisco Alvarez (2); plus AJ Ewing, ML Melendez, Austin Slater, and Eric Wagaman once each.

    I had a feeling Torrens's failure to get to 2nd was going to come back to bite us. At least no GiDP though. Was probably 50/50 whether Luis would have been able to stretch out the double.

    Are those for some specific threat or is that their normal Saturday exercise? A Boston win this afternoon makes it three in a row for the last place Sawx over the 1st place Yanx by a cumulative score of 16 - 5 [6 - 3, 6- 1 , 4 - 1] . They'll finish the series tomorrow on -- SURPRISE!! -- the national Sunday Night game.

    Triples by Lindor and Soto in consecutive innings ... Andy Green is a Genius!!!

    That's the Mets second four-run inning in their last 12 games which goes back to the start of the series vs Cincy. The other came in the lone win v the Reds when they won 9-1. Of course they only occasionally scored four in a game during that stretch.

    Four straight balls to Young and now five straight to Vientos (he just happened to swing at one of them).
