So that's six starts this year but a total of only 30.1 innings and he needed to be pulled early in two of them due to a medical issue. Yeah, I'd be nervous over this going forward if I were TEX mgmt.
I'm not real confident about the Mets scoring 4 runs in this series much less in the next three innings tonight ... assuming there will even be more innings tonight.
Anyone know who these slash line numbers belong to? A) 277/347/522 // 869 207/249/287 // 536 Don't bother trying to guess. I didn't design this as a quiz and neither is a single person anyway. A is the combined offense of Atlanta catchers since the beginning of the 2022 season while B, sadly, is what NYM backstops have been putting up over the same period of time. Y'know who had an 869 OPS last season? Pete Fucking Alonso that's who! Y'know who had a 536 OPS in 2022? Some guy who makes a lot of outs and hits for no power. I'd give you an actual name but no one who hit that low was given enough PAs to even qualify. Nido alone surpasses that for his career (562) which means it's not just that Nido is such a sub-par hitter it's that the other NYM catchers have collectively been worse than him. On the other side the Braves in 22-23 have had Td'A (currently on the concussion IL) was 704 as a Met and 785 w/Atlanta; William Contreras [809] and this year picked up Sean Murphy who put up four seasons in Oakland but 996 so far w/Braves] Want an extra base hit comparison (sure you do): ATL = 71 since the start of '22, MYN = 14. HRs: 35 to 6
Now if the scoreboard operators were truly clever they could top the three hit tribute to Br3tt Baty by displaying Brandon Gnimmo in honor of his gnome.
Whenever Alex Call gets mentioned I keep thinking of Harry Caul, Gene Hackman's surveillance expert character from the Oscar nominated, but still under the radar, flick THE CONVERSATION (1974)
Marlins win! THAAAAAA MARLINS WIN Braves scored 4 in the 8th on Wednesday to come from behind and win 6-4 so this was a nice, and stunningly unexpected, payback.
Well shut my mouth!! (many want to) Not only did the Braves stall at four runs but they've just coughed up FIVE to the Marlins in top 9 (and still batting!) most of those after two were out. Closer AJ Minter was the main culprit and was pulled, but he had help. Top 9 over, Braves coming up down by one.
And two innings later the Braves are going to win by the mercy rule so, even if they get in late, it'll be with all their important pitchers rested and ready. Actually it's still just 3-0 but it's bases loaded and none out so I'll take the 'Over' on 11.5 for this innings total RS. And now it's 4
After giving up 3 in the 8th to lose the first game of the series, Pirates follow with wins of 8-1 last night & 6-2 today to take two of three from the Dodgers. Maybe they really are on the upswing. And this is all without their 8 ft tall SS
It's tough to feel positive after looking like the worst team in the history of baseball over the last four days, particularly against two of the actual worst teams. Win either of those last two in SF and we'd have been in 1st place. Now it looks like we'll be mathematically eliminated from winning the NLE come Monday.
So Carl Edwards walks the only two batters he faces to start the 7th ... and then no Met batter gets the ball out of the infield for the remainder of the game.
