  1. Apparently Scots are the last group that can be blatantly portrayed as ethnic stereotypes on national TV.
  2. =bmfc1 post_id=123198 time=1682196622 user_id=73] Unless they come back, Peterson should pitch all 9. There's no reason to waste a reliever when they're playing down one player.
  3. Approaching 50 pitches to record just four outs. Now five but I think this one's gonna be flipped.

  5. Vogelbach smacks one to "triples alley". Or, as he calls it, "doubles alley".
  6. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: It seems like they'd sooner change Athletics to Aces Which is already the WNBA team's name. How original of them.
  7. Not sure I've seen Alvarez take a 'good AB' yet.
  8. Yeah, they're the only green uni team in MLB, no one else has it even as a secondary color, so they should hold on to that uniqueness. There are already too many reds and blues. Although, seeing as how it'll be Vegas, maybe they'll darken it somewhat so that it resembles money green.

  10. Guillorme & Lindor are fun to watch. Even the DP they failed to turn was poetry in motion just to make it that close.
  11. =nymr83 post_id=123042 time=1682046576 user_id=54] If he was still with the Nationals we'd all be cheering him getting suspended and labelling him a cheater
  12. I actually watched a few innings of what turned out to be his final ARZ game on Wednesday afternoon and found myself wondering if a release was possibly in the mix cuz he looked like toast; lots of stuff out of the strike zone and everything in the zone was getting hit. I just had no idea how quickly my brief thought would come to pass. It's perplexing how fast he fell particularly since, as mentioned, he's still just 33 y/o and still looks like he could lift up one side of the stadium in case someone needed a few minutes to look for some spare change underneath. Relieving is a thought but he's also been so blah for so long now that you really have to assume that this is his new normal and the old version isn't coming back. I wonder also if he'd even want to pitch out of the pen as he's used to being a main guy and isn't exactly Mr. sort and cuddly.
  13. He was Drew Not-So-Smyly after that. That hit for the Dodgers was leading off the 8th. It would be their only one. The Cubs pen got the final four outs in the 13-0 drubbing. Braves host the Astros this weekend while the Yanx get Toronto, so both of those are worthy of monitoring. Phils continue with Colorado after the Rox won 5-0 last night. oe: and if you want to watch Either the Yanx or Braves games tonight you'll need to pay up because BOTH are on Apple+ streaming exclusively.

  15. Were Oakland fans outraged when the A's left Kansas City? A move to Vegas will make the Athletics the first MLB franchise to call four different cities home.
  16. What am I missing with these 4/20 references?
  17. Not sure sending Lindor with no outs was the best move -- even a decent throw gets him -- but it worked.
  18. SNY failed to go to the obligatory Buck shot following the HBP. Heads need to roll.
  19. The other thing that suxx for Oakland is that they've just had their NFL & NBA teams leave in just the last few years (to Vegas and SF). Maybe it's time to revive the NHL's California Golden Seals (complete with white ice skates). They'd have the city's sports interest all to themselves.
  20. Gary speculated that following the German thing getting handled so ... oddly (mgr Baldelli certainly wasn't happy with the non-ejection) that MLB probably sent memos out to the effect to get tougher once a warning was given and Scherzer happened to be the first one to get caught up in that net.
  21. During the game, Gelbs said that this is something Scherzer/the Mets can appeal. What wasn't clear from his answer was whether it's an all or nothing thing. iow, since the penalty of ten games is pre-set by MLB it makes it sound like the only choices on appeal are guilty or innocent/ten games or zero. Or is there room for a less guilty condition -- misdemeanor stickiness rather than the felony version -- where a lesser suspension can be imposed? As it is, ten games for a starter is effectively only one start anyway so it's probably the all or nothing answer.
  22. Maybe the biggest shame in all this, at least beyond the one where the A's fans were an enthusiastic lot even if not the most numerous, is that Oakland itself seems like it's a city on the rise following a loooong down period. Another is that the team put in a long and honest effort to stay but were shot down numerous times and at numerous locations, mainly, according to various stuff I've read over the years, though NIMBY-ism. Now I don't know enough about the city or about the deals offered to say whether the NIMBY-ists were correct in rejecting whatever terms they were offered. Maybe they were all the usual assortment of promises and hyped jobs projections, I dunno. As for Vegas, I've long been skeptical about baseball & Vegas and it has nothing to do with the gambling angle. Vegas just strikes me as a very transient town, people are mostly all from somewhere else so to what degree are they even going to embrace their own team, especially when it's someone else's reject. And the out of town visiter coming to LV is going there for conventions and the nightlife, not a lot of time leftover for baseball. It's an event town: prize fights, they're getting the next Super Bowl, that sort of thing while baseball needs an everyday audience and I'm not sure how good a fit it'll be. But maybe I'm way off too. Looks like we're going to find out.
  23. Excerpt: Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom was throwing a no-hitter when he had to exit with wrist soreness. Mets fans are just glad it's not their problem anymore. Whether the Mets let Jacob deGrom walk in free agency or handed him a giant bag of cash to stay in New York, it was always going to be a risk. Balancing a generational talent with a bad injury habit isn't easy. They let him walk. Was it the right choice? Right about now, Mets fans have to feel fairly vindicated because the Rangers are going through the purest version of “The Jacob deGrom” experience. I'll take the first part of that excerpt: "Mets fans are just glad it's not their problem anymore" How many reported NYM fans did this guy poll? All of them? (if so I don't remember getting a call). A million? A thousand? Six? Himself plus the guy on the next barstool and his cat? And yet he seems to indicate that not only is there a universal consensus on this issue but that he knows what it is. Statements like this are up there with declaring what "Twitter thinks ..." about some issue or who "the internet is supporting ..." over the latest Taylor Swift breakup.
