  1. Speaking of network broadcasting decisions, the MLB sked is cleared out in the 1:00 EDT time slot so as to make the London game a stand-alone. I'm sure FOX wanted that desperately and maybe King Charlie III put in a request too. FOX is pulling triple duty today, going directly from the London game to the Belmont Stakes to, after a brief local news break, Game 2 of the NYY/LAD series tonight.

This isn't usual practice for these 'exclusive' games but apparently MLB realized, probably belatedly, that they were blocking a star-laden game that non-locals might actually want to watch from most of the country, including many in-market fans, and so made an exception in this case. I'm sure a [CROSSOUT]small[/CROSSOUT] Large kickback was thrown Apple's way to make up for it. btw, Dodgers 2 - Yanquis 1 was your final, all runs scored in the 11th.
  3. ⚾️ Immaculate Grid 432 9/9: Rarity: 99 IMMACULATE! 🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩 Play at: https://immaculategrid.comhttps://immaculategrid.com @immaculategrid x @baseball_ref PIT/HOU: Phil Garner; PIT 20W: Doug Drabek (48%!!); PIT/30 steals Frank Tavares BOS/HOU: Curt Schilling; BOS 20W: Jim Lonborg; BOS/30: Johnny Damon (the answer I was least sure of) ATL/HOU: Jim Bouton; ATL 20W: Warren Spahn; ATL 30: Ralph Garr What I learned today upon looking it up after the game: the Pirates have had 62 20-win seasons in their history turned in by 31 different pitchers. Only three of those occurred in the last 65 years: John Candelaria (1977), Doug Drabek (1990), John Smiley (1991)
  4. Yanx/Dodgers, btw, scoreless thru 7 Yamamoto is throwing a 2-hitter Yanx are throwing a bullpen game and have themselves a 3-hitter That pen menagerie includes 1.2 IP/1-hit from Michael Tonkin Now that we've caught the Nats (not much of an accomplishment but it's something) I probably shouldn't be celebrating their win over the Braves, but why not? 2-1 tonight to gain a split in the first two games of that four-game series in DC
  5. Two of the top teams in baseball this year meeting for their only series unless they each make the World one, why not? ... so of course tonight's game is exclusively on Apple+. Thanks Uncle Rob and owners!
  6. 72 pitches thru seven for Severino That would be a good number for five innings.
  7. Not sure how aggressively you can shop either one.
  8. =Fman99 post_id=158030 time=1717627594 user_id=86] I like our chances now
  9. So Gary just talked about the plan going forward for Alvarez: Thursday: DH in Brooklyn Friday: catch for Syracuse Saturday: catch for Syracuse Sunday: DH for Syracuse Off day Monday and then with the Mets starting Tuesday assuming all the above goes well. So that leaves the backup job to one of Nido / Torrens In the midst of a two HR (and counting?) game and some nifty throwing lately it's easy to go with Torrens, SSS be damned. But there's also a reason why he's amassed less than 1-1/2 seasons worth of ABs across pieces of seven seasons -- almost half of them in one year (2021 w/SEA) -- with a career OPS+ of 80 On the other hand, he's two years younger than Nido (28 vs 30) and will likely have one season more of team control (two vs one). Plus that 80 OPS+ looks positively robust compared to Nido's career 57 And then you've got the Mendoza factor which likely bends in the new guy's favor. So maybe not much of a conundrum, even with Nido hitting reasonably well lately.
  10. Game flyin' along: five full innings < 1:00
  11. =ashie62 post_id=157963 time=1717622117 user_id=90] Or no time toulouse
  12. My WEATHER.COM site tells me precip-free thru 9 PM in DC. Get 'er done! Any local input?
  13. Well it did exist. But now that the threads have been merged perhaps the 'address' changed and, besides, the merger makes the link meaningless anyway.
  14. Discussion on this topic has been going on for a while. https://phpbb3.ultimatemets.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=32061
  15. I thought they were about to find an EVEN MORE novel way to lose.
  16. And the tying run comes to the plate ... because of course it does.
  17. Long HR from Pete to make it 6-2 Our win pct just nudged over 55%
  18. That Pete call on the pop up was so loud I heard it ... and not through my TV!!
  19. PH'ing DJ Stewart for Nido [1st & 3rd / one out] cuz we all know a three run lead just doesn't cut it.
  20. Couple of fortunate hits to lead off the 8th. Now we'll see how good they are at stranding them.
  21. Good thing that none of these failed tack-on run situations have come back to bite us recently.
  22. Continuing the season-long wasting of scoring opportunities.
  23. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Gary said it first but he also looks like Todd from "Breaking Bad." Plemons (I was spelling it wrong above) was Todd in B.B.
