  1. HORRIBLE decision by Torii on that I-t-P-HR Diving for a ball while you're tied and there are two outs w/a runner on is bad enough, but he never got close to that ball. That's an almost shocking play by the guy who's been the best CF in the business the last few years. And did you see Kotsay as he reached home? His shirt was pulled out in about 3 different directions and was flapping in the breeze as he ran. Looked more like he had been in a fight than someone who just ran around the bases.
  2. I'm sure some of this stuff was covered in the IGT, but stuff also tends to get lost in there at times * This game showed the plusses and minuses of the way our roster is structured with the 12 pitchers and all. It gave Willie the freedom to use the quick hook there in the 5th after Maine walked Furball after having him down 2-0 and burn the tag-team duo on just two batters even though there were still 4 inning (and maybe more) to go. On the other hand, it shortens the bench and lessens the options for PH-ing for Mota w/2 out and bags full because you['ve still got 3 innings to cover and you're already on your 4th pitcher. I didn't realize that Mota's hitting record was as decent as it was (most relievers swing once every 6 months or so) but w/a different set-up I'd be screaming for a PH there. Willie played the whole thing perfectly IMO * Couldn't see what the 3rd base coach did or didn't do there with Drew on that Chinese fire-drill of a play. Kent read that ball badly enough to start with (Green never got close to that ball) but there's NO WAY you can send Drew there. Drew appeared to glance back towards the coaching box right after he was called out but I have no idea if that fuck-up was his or the coach's. Meanwhile, Maine was yelling at Duke to turn around but I don't think he ever heard him. He got a bit lucky there that he turned around when he did. * We also got a bit lucky when Delgado was sent on Wright's RF double. Good throw there and he's out by plenty and there was only 1 out at the time. Risky call and maybe even a bad one ... but it worked. * Anyone see where Delgado's HR landed? The cameras never seemed to pick it up. Balls looked to be carrying today - especially those fly balls to RF. * That grounder to Valentin hadn't even reached him and I'm already screaming 'Play's at First!!'. Bad decision AND bad execution there. * Heilman was dealing. None of the threee batters he faced got so much as a decent swing. * Steve Phillips talks a bit too much (let's face it, most analysts do) but he's actually not too bad. Made some good points here and there in the midst of his lengthy soliloquies.
  3. metirish wrote: Lowe when he's on has a nasty splitter, right?, that's his best pitch I think A sinker, not really a splitter, although the effect is often the same. He got the largest pct of ground balls of any pitcher this season. Sinker-ballers get the ball "up" when tired and/or ineffective and that's when they get hammered.

  5. Back-to-back HRs from Cuddyer & Morneau in the home 6th tie up the game
  6. Hey, no one ever claimed that PotG is a perfect system. Besides, you'll all have a shot at rebuttal if you join in on the 2006 Rankings Project. PotG results will count merely as one vote there so the more subjective views of those participating have plenty of opportunity for "correction".
  7. Yes. Rosters are frozen within eadh round but you can make numerous changes between rounds, limited only by the pool of eligible players.
  8. Maine had a lower ERA and BAA than Lowe. It's the Dodger fans who should be nervous.
  9. Someone asked before if the damage to Girardi's 'rep' in Florida was enough to prevent him from getting another managing job. I think that it's Showalter's rep that may prevent him from landing a new one anytime soon. This is now three good (or at least decent) clubs that have kicked him out over issues of disgruntled players and co-workers - two of which still owed him major money. Now, if form holds, Texas will win the WS next year. Get your bets in NOW!!!!
  10. ="Elster88"]Look I hate the fact that Yankee fans are always going down on him as much as anyone....but the guy is fucking 5-5 tonight. That's impressive. The guy's had a great game, no question. The only annoying part is going to be hearing about how he's more likely to have a game like this because it's October, when if fact; a) that's demonstrably untrue (his Oct v reg numbers are virtually identical) and if it were true wouldn't that imply that he slacks off during the 162 game season by not trying as hard as he can? And P.S. How would an ARod solo HR in the 8th inning of a game the Yanx were already up by 3 be treated?
  11. [u:e08baa660f]Dodgers Pitchers[/u:e08baa660f] Derek Lowe -- Nice year from the ground-ball specialist. At 67% GBs - he and Webb in Az (66.5%) are BY FAR the highest in the league. He won't get many strikeouts, but not so many hits either: 1.27 WhiP, 3.63 ERA Hong-Chi Kuo -- Was already discussed in his own personal thread. Was near perfect against us in 12 IPs, but not nearly as good vs others - mainly because of a high BB count (33 in 59 IPs) 4.22 ERA & 1.56 WhiP overall Greg Maddux -- Turned it around soon after getting to LA. 3.30 ERA and barely a baserunner per inning in 12 starts Brad Penny -- The All-Star starter, but has been injured and less effective in the 2nd half, plus the Mets have always beaten him like a bass drum no matter where he's been: 3-10, 6.16 ERA vs Mets ... vs 56-53, 4.00 overall Takashi Saito -- This guy's been good! A 36 y/o Japanese import has been closing since around May and is 24/26 in save opps and has given up just 48 hits and 23 walks in 73 IPs, Jonathan Broxton -- The main set-up man. Just 61 hits in 78 IPs and a 2.59 ERA Brett Tomko -- Def on the back 9 of his career. Has been both in and out of the rotation after getting smacked around a bit earlier in the season .. including by us. Joe Beimel -- Their lefty out of the pen, although not a strict LOOGY Chad Billingsley -- 22 y/o prospect got 16 starts this year with decent success though a lot of walks: 58 in 90 IPs Mark Hendrickson -- Former Devil Ray (also former NBA player) was picked up in mid-season in the JW Seo trade, was 1-7 with the Dodgers before losing his spot in the rotation
  12. ESPN had a reporter in the stands who happened to be right behind the screen where that popup was. He claims that the ball hit the screen coming down which is what made it come down behind Piazza.
  13. He's good, but he ain't that good.
  14. Game 1: Carpernter v Peavy Scoreless end of the 2nd
  15. A's Win!!! Leadoff 3B (lost ball) by Cuddyer ... but a fly out, RBI GO, and Fly out gets Street the save and zito the win.
  16. Big Hurt's 2nd HR makes it 3-1 A's still batting top 9.
  17. It's spelled RonDL White ... in honor of his frequent injuries.
  18. Rosters don't have to be set until 10AM tomorrow.
  19. Short fly to CF can't get Frank Thomas in from 3rd (a long fly might not have either) Then a foul fly ends the innings and leaves the sacks drunk w/none scoring.
  20. Well, the replacement might partially depend on whether he's out for the whole series (in which case he would be replaced on the roster) or merely delayed for a day or two. Glavine last went on Friday right? So Wednesday would be his normal rest then Maine (who pitched Sat) for Thurs if Ducky isn't ready.
  21. Didn't realize calf problems were contagious.
  22. Twins strand two but don't score. 6 full innings in under an hour-and-a-half. If this is a Yanx game it's maybe the top 3rd now.
  23. Wow, that was quick! Me thinks there was some contact betweent he parties prior to the season ending. Girardi supposedly has a bit of Buck Showalter in him in that he's a bit of a control freak and wants his hands in every step of the pie-making. The Chicago supposition comes from the fact that he's from Illinois and attended Northwestern. Also, the Tribune ownership reportedly likes him. Either way, he'll land on his feet somewhere.
  24. Hadn't really thought about a rooting interest here. Pads I guess, more for a change of pace than anything else. Plus games w/o LaRussa might just finish in under 5 hours.
