  2. When Heilman hasn't pitched more than 2 innings in, what?, over a year now ... Perez.
  3. re: A Heilman start: Highly doubtful.
  4. ]Bad ass! Well, y'know ... copyright infringement and all.
  5. Did JV get permission from Jeter to make that play?
  6. LaRussa dodged one there IMO. Walking Wright would have; - set up the all around force - allowed them to at least play the middle infielders back a bit - and, well ... avoided David Wright in favor of Chavez The only StL advantage is that it would have forced Looper to be more careful around the plate w/nowhere to put anyone. But, he got away with it.
  7. Perez faced the Cards 3 times this year while still w/the Pirates: (W) 6.2 IP, 3 ER, 5 H (L) 5.0 IP, 5 ER, 10 H (L) 7.0 IP, 2 ER, 7 H Looks at a glance like 2 decent outings sandwiched around 1 lousy one
  8. The AL game 3 has been moved to 4:00
  9. Hey, they'll get around to it eventually. Acc to Willie, Cliff was sked to be in the lineup as of last night so I assume he will be in today's better weather also. Met batters v Weaver (10 ABs or more): Beltran: 11/42, 2 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, .262/.340/.619 Tucker: 9/40, 2 2B, 9 K, .225/.311/.275 Delgado: 19/38, 4 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, .500/.620/.974 Valentin: 7/26, 1 2B, 1 HR, .269/.387/.423 Green: 5/16, 1 2B, 2 HR, .313/.421/.750 Woodward: 5/16, .313/.313/.313 Reyes: 2/11: .182/.182/.182 Cards vs Glavine: Rolen: 19/53, 6 2B, 2 HR, 14 BB, .358/.493/.585 Wilson: 9/44, 1 2B, 1 HR, 10 K, .205/.271/.295 Encarnacion: 13/36, 2 2B, .361/.439/.417 Pujols: 9/20 (all singles) .450/.455/.450 Edmonds: 4/19, 5 BB, 7 K, .211/.375/.211 Bennett: 6/15, .400/.400/.400 Ronnie Belliard: 5/12, 1 2B, .417/.462/.500
  10. FWIW, virtually ALL radio stations endlessly beat there ads into the ground. I talked to a guy who sold radio ad-time a bunch of years back and he said that the concept of 'repetition' was essentially gospel in the biz.
  11. The night was a total washout. It basically poured from about 4 til at least midnight
  12. ]what is it with this site? It always wants me to re-log in When you log in there's some sort of "Remember Me" box which, if checked, should prevent you from having to re-log each time. P.S. Paragraph breaks just makes one's take more readable. No one's trying to be an English teacher here (although some will occasionally act like it) but stuff that's tough on the eyes tends to be scanned rather than read.
  13. What I can't figure out is what factors they think are going to fall into place by this afternoon allowing them to make the "correct" decsion that they don't know about now - or even last night for that matter.
  14. Detroit's Sean Casey out for this round and almost certainly the next with what seems to be the injury of the month; a tear in his calf muscle. Too bad for him and the Tigers ... especially if it means repeated sightings of Neifi Perez.
  15. So what exactly is causing them to be still unsure of the time of Friday's start? Choose a frickin time and announce it!!
  16. So Casey's injury last night forces the Tiggers to move Guillen to 1st and insert Neifi Perez at SS. OK, that I can see ... but here's what I can't: Perez: .243/.260/.316 (and just 12 singles + 1 double in 65 ABs as a Tiger) And while Inge is hardly great, he's at: 542 ABs; .253/.313/.463 (137 hits, 58 of them for xtra bases) So what's the problem? How 'bout Perez batting 2nd and Inge 9th!! And I'm willing to bet it's based entirely on Neifi's supposed speed - even though he's got a career mark of 57 steals while being caught 45 times!! I mean jeeez, Inge is a former catcher and has almost as good (read: bad) a theft ratio: 25 steals in 50 attempts Now you realize what drives "stats nuts" nuts about "Old-Skool" managers.
  17. The game will obviously be made up on Friday - although they've yet to announce the start time. What they DID announce is that Game 1 tickets will be honored on Friday, and those w/Game 2 tickets who were set to attend Thursday's game will still do so as planned.
  18. Yeah, Wainwright was a highly touted starter who was considered just about ready when the Braves dealt him as the main bait for Drew a coupla years back ... and then he promptly got hurt and started falling short of expectations like a typical Atlanta prospect that it looks like they got rid of at exactly the right time. So in working his way back he wound up in the pen and was eventually "promoted" to the set-up role and finally the closer's spot after Izzy went down. He's tough to miss at about 6' 7" and pitched well down the stretch.
  19. NYC native Jason Marquis is OFF the StL roster - meaning that the first pitch of Game 4 is likely to be from (Anthony) Reyes to (Jose) Reyes StL NLCS Roster: Pitchers (11): Chris Carpenter, Randy Flores, Josh Hancock, Tyler Johnson, Josh Kinney, Braden Looper, Anthony Reyes, Jeff Suppan, Brad Thompson, Adam Wainwright, Jeff Weaver. Hitters (14): Ronnie Belliard, Gary Bennett, Chris Duncan, David Eckstein, Jim Edmonds, Juan Encarnacion, Aaron Miles, Yadier Molina, Albert Pujols, John Rodriguez, Scott Rolen, Scott Spiezio, So Taguchi, Preston Wilson.

  21. That building (524 E. 72nd St) is on the south side of 72nd Street between York Ave and the river. I used to hang around with a girl who lived on that block a bunch of years ago (I think her adress was 520) but haven't been over there in a long time (she's not still there either) and with the way buildings go up and are replaced I had trouble picturing the exact building from the few TV shots I saw.
  22. Bob says: Cliff is ON (Floyd, not Jimmy) Also Andy Handy in -- R^3 (Roger Royce Ring) out No other changes -- bad news for those Williams over Perez fans
  23. btw, an [u:be53f6cfde]east wind[/u:be53f6cfde] generally means a bad hitters day at Shea. That's the direction the open end of the stadium faces.
  24. ]It would be an afternoon game, because the ALCS is scheduled for Friday night. ... It would either be at 1 or 4, I'd imagine. Not neccesarily. Both games today are at 8PM on a "split national" format; your "market game" on the FOX network with the backup on F/X. A double game Friday could very well work the same way. FOX went to this for the first Game1/Game2 conflict a few years back based apparently on the assumption that even games competing against each other is better (for ratings and such) sticking one in the afternoon - although why they don't choose to at least slightly stagger them (8:00/9:30 starts maybe) is lost on me. They won't do that for a potential Game6/Game7 conflict next week - but by then it frequently doesn't matter since one series or the other is over.
  25. From Cliffie the blog-meister: You just have to face the truth sometimes, ugly as it is. I know there’s a chance I may not play, a chance that I may not even be in the roster because of this Achilles. What am I going to do? I don’t know anything for sure. I don’t know what’s in Willie’s head anymore than I know exactly what’s going on inside my leg. I just know it hurts. They wanted me to have another MRI on Monday. It was all set up. But I said, “What for? All it’s gonna say is that I’m hurt, and I know that already.” So here I am. I’d love to be out there. I’m swinging the bat pretty good right now. And I can help. But I know a ball in the gap could be a problem. I’m pretty sure Willie knows that, too. He saw me in the outfield yesterday during our workout. If this was the World Series already, we wouldn’t be talking about this. I think I’d be the DH, cause it doesn’t affect me at all when I swing. So I wouldn’t be stealing bases, I’d just have to rely on power and hit a few out so I could trot. You know if that ball Greenie hit Saturday in LA goes out, I could have just walked home and nothing happens to this Achilles. Three or four inches higher, and I’m downshifting. They told me Todd Zeile hit a ball like that –- like Greenie did -- in the World Series, against the Yankees in 2000. It almost went out. It goes out, and the Mets get two runs. But it stayed in, and that Timo Perez got thrown out at the plate. Jeter made that great relay. See, I’m kinda worried about that, too -- that I might not score when I should because of this thing. I’m not afraid of the pain. I’ve been hurting in both legs –- off and on -– for a long time. The right one’s better now. But I’ve got to be able to do my job in the outfield and on the bases. As much as I want to play and help us win, I wouldn’t want to be the reason we lose -– because I can’t run. I’ve told Willie that. So yeah, I know I may be out of there. But I’ll be there rooting. These are my boys. D. Wright, I have to be there for him, help him get through all this. I know he wants to say he’s outgrown me, that he doesn’t need Cliffie. I don’t make him carry my bags anymore, but he’s still my little guy. Bad leg or not, I gotta look after my little guy. So I’ll be there one way or the other.
