  2. Not a bad story, but you're still assuming that it was the batting spot and the psychology of Leo's suggestion that caused the good year. I don't.
  3. I think this Prince's bat weighs almost as much as that Prince.
  4. Milestones taking an oh-fer tonight. - ARod now oh for his last 17. I think he was the only Yank NOT to hit a HR tonight. - Bonds is still playing but hasn't gone deep yet - and Glavine we kinda know about
  5. Alright, it's midnight in Manhattan, this is no time to get cute.
  6. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bsplit.cgi?n1=millela02&year=00 Scroll down for Batting Order positions. Worthless data IMO, particularly in this case.
  7. UMDB would have that info I believe. As would any one of several stats sites like Baseball-Reference.com But do you really expect the info you get - particularly with the small sample size that Milledge's career would provide - to give you some kind of answer that would indicate cause-and-effect?
  8. btw, I don't believe the recently traded-for Scott Linebrink is in the park today. Traded players have several days to report plus I think there's an about-to-give-birth wife issue.
  9. As Joe Schultz would say: "SHITFUCK!!"
  10. Gwreck wrote: I forget the rule, who gets charged with the walk if Moises winds up taking two more out of the strike zone? Wise or Shouse? Wise in this case because the count was 2-0. Each count has a rule about who gets charged in case of a mid-AB change.
  11. Bringing Matt in turned out to be not so Wise. That's the thing you gotta remember about bullpens; in any given season the fans of at least 27 teams think their's really suxxxxx
  12. This guy might even make Alou take a pitch

  14. Now in this inning, the pitching & lineup situation turns in our favor.
  15. Nice catch Lastings ... but where exactly were you thinking of throwing it?
  16. Gwreck wrote: Hall won the last Mets-Brewers game at Miller Park on a walkoff. Only HR Bradford gave up last year. Yup! Mother's Day with the pink bat.
  17. Walk Prince and pitch to Hall, or bring in Schoeneweis to pitch to Prince??? I like walking Prince. (and either option beats Sosa pitching to Prince)
  18. Things could be worse, we could have traded for Jose Contreras who just gave up a 1st-inning hit to everyone in the Skank lineup tonight except Mr I-Want-500. Foretunately, Mr. Mussina is a reciprocal kinda guy. 4-3 Yanx in the 2nd. ]I like this move by the Pirates I don't quite see it. Morris has been residing in mediocre land for a while now and is signed for some $10mil per thru next year with the Giants not picking up any money. Not sure how he fits into Pittsburgh's plan right now, assuming they even have one.
  19. "Of course I sound like Ed Coleman " No question about it.
  20. "but he really doesn't know anything about baseball " I actually wouldn't put it that way at all. In fact, it's more like he's a kind of idiot savant, someone whose life is so immersed in sports he sometimes loses the big picture when it comes to other topics. The book this series is taken from (which he didn't read) is not a baseball book but rather a brief history of NYC during that tumultuous year of which the Billy/Reggie/George Yanx were one of the stories. Now maybe it's partly because the espn version (being a sports station and all) pushes the Yanx more towards the foreground and the others as background (rather than the other way around) he's acting as if it's strictly a baseball story and can't understand WhytheFuck these other stories are being lumped in with the '77 Yankees!?! "There's no connection!!"
  21. Several stories recently talked about the strong possiblity of August being a more active trading seson than July. It might be tough for a lot of relief pitchers to get through waivers however.
  22. Chris Russo apparently just saw (via special DVD) the first 3 episodes of the espn mini-series version of 'Bronx is Burning'. He liked them and will continue to watch the remaining ones. But he's at a loss to understand why the author chose the 1977 Yanx to write about ('78 was more dramatic he says) or why the '77 NYY season is being lumped stories such as 'Son of Sam', the Mayoral race, the blackout and subsequent riots, etc., or even why a non-Yankee fan would be interested. All manner of callers have tried to explain the tie-ins connecting the baseball and non-baseall themes in the story to him - starting with the part about THEM ALL HAPPENING CONCURRENTLY - but it somehow all remains beyond his grasp.
  23. Gagne has agreed to the trade sending him to Fenway (he had a partial no-trade). Sox going to great lengths to "Boston Massacre-proof" themselves this season and break the 9-year division run by their neighbors to the south.
  24. HahnSolo wrote: Is Cordero really only 25 years old? Sure. He was just drafted out of college a few years back and was in the majors a month or two later. Gammons has apparently been saying that it would take more than Humber to get Cordero.
  25. I don't really think it helps or hurts either team too much. Just seems a little odd is all. The team with a strong pen trades for a faltering reliever they once had, while the one with a depth problem in the pen gets rid of one for a 3B/SS who'll never play either.
