  1. Brewers Tony Graffanino out for season too - as if that team needs any more problems. I guess that means they bring Richie Weeks back but he wasn't hitting at all when shipped out.
  2. well, they kinda already are, but the next 26 games are going to be a lot tougher for the Yanx than the cake sked they've had recently. Starting Friday: 3 at Cleveland 3 hosting Baltimore 4 hosting Detroit 3 at Angels 4 at Detroit 3 host Boston 3 host Tampa 3 host Seattle Would be nice if the seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" and especially the Tiggers weren't suddenly playing like crap. Seattle is actually the current WC leader. The rest of mid/late September then gets easier for them although there is one trip to Beantown mixed in.
  3. At least the stuff like "We battled" is just intended to be nothing more than a cliche to say that you played hard. My problem with this 'They've got their number' crap is that those using are under the impression that they're actually offering up a worthwhile explanation for why things are happening as they are and why they'll continue to do so. The Braves are beating the Mets because they 'have their number' ... except that they must have lost the number last year and now I guess they found it again. How does that happen anyway and why don't they just keep that number in a safer place? In other words, that explanation works ....except for the times when it doesn't. btw, Chipper has good numbers against the Mets mainly because he has good numbers against everyone! They're slightly better against NY compared to a random expectation but only slightly: He has 9.17% of his ABs against the Mets with 10.04% of his hits, 9.87% of his HRs, and 9.14% of his RBIs. Whoop-de-damn-doo
  4. Is there a more meaningless and over-used cliche in sports? Or one that is passed off as analysis even though all it is is a substitue for finding an actual answer? It's driving me nuts lately.
  5. Reyes - 2.0 Wright - 2.5 Alou - 1.0 Mota - 0.5 Feliciano - 0.5 Delgado - 0.5 Castillo - 0.5
  6. btw, Mike Bacsik [u:2546457d2e]Sr.[/u:2546457d2e] faced [u:2546457d2e]Bobby[/u:2546457d2e] Bonds a few times. The results were not as memorable.
  7. Centerfield wrote: I think you have to play IF in there. 8th or 9th innings definitely -- and if the runner was only on 3rd definitely also. But in the 7th, with 3 cracks at offense and the alternative being a GiDP .... eh, I could go either way there.
  8. Edgy DC wrote: The league used to not care about players taking speed before a day game. Yeah, but unfortunately our lack of speed isn't being caused by a lack of speed, it's just the result of a lack of speed.
  9. And Hudson hits for himself ... and he bunts a run in.
  10. (Lack of) speed hurting us this inning. - Delgado's RBI 1B [u:85905bed25]could have[/u:85905bed25] been a double but wasn't - so Alou 1B (coulda been a 2B) doesn't score Delgado - and now Green HBP (coulda been a wild pitch) doesn't score anyone not that speed had anything to do with that last one
  11. Milledge PH-ing for Anderson who apparently rolled over on his wrist trying to make a catch. 4-3 GO
  12. I think it's safe to say that this lineup has missed Alou's bat over the last two months.
  13. They did the Braves last night, which of course had Aaron's 715 as #1 Also Justice's HR that was the only run in their 1-0 Game 6 WS winner in '95 (2 hit shutout by Glavine) And an Eddie Mathews walk-off winner (game 4 I think) in the '57 WS
  14. I guess I would have gone with Knight - tie-breaking (and ultimately game-winning) HRs in the 7th inning of Game 7 WS are tough to argue against Pratt - a walk-off post-season series winner and finally I'll go with Alou's last night (he says as he mocks those whose memories extend back only to the latest Justin Timberlake release) .... actually Lenny's Game 3 winner against Houston in '86 Hard to leave out the emotional lift of Piazza 9/21 8th inning game winner or Ventura's Grand-Slam single in the rain ending a 5-1/2 hour lose of go home marathon, but ultimately the '01 division chase fell short and the Mets were eliminated the day after the GS-single. Honorable mention also to Clendenon's 2R HR in Game 5 of the '69 WS
  15. Maine vs Hudson Most likely rearranged 'DGANG' lineups to be announced soon. But on to the important stuff: Did anyone hear last night when Gary announced that "The Official Game Time Temperature" (a sponsored spot of course) of 93 degrees was the highest at Shea since six years ago in early August when it was 98 at first pitch? And I'm thinking ... 'Hey I remember that game' -- 98 degrees on it's way to 104 IIRC -- and I bet several others here remember it also. In fact, I believe it was six years ago Today.
  16. ]They did the mets first,I think it was Sunday night Oops.
  17. ESPN is doing some deal where they attempt to pick-out each team's most important HRs throughout their history, similar to the "Web-Gem" thing they did a year or so ago. They're choosing three per team and appear to be doing one team per day -- I have no idea when they'll get around to the Mets. Anyway, I never really thought about this before, so let's get some nominations.
  18. OHernandez - 3.1 Alou - 1.8 Reyes - 0.6 Heilman - 1.0 Wagner - 1.0 Green - 1.0 Castillo - 1.5
  19. NEVER IN DOUBT!!!!!
  20. Good thing we didn't release him the other day.
  21. Phils 6 - Marlins 4 T8 Jays 15 - Yanx 4 B7
  22. Kid Carsey wrote: Are you guys watching? Sawed off bats are hardly reason to get all giddy. 'twern't pretty, but I'll take it. * Ooooh, and I just became Gary Carter I'll have to refrain from cursing for the next 50 posts.
  23. Nymr83 wrote: ="Frayed Knot"]I Mahay have to celebrate if Reyes gets a hit here. your bad pun prevented a run from scoring. No, it was just premature. I've suffered from premature punning most of my adult life.
  24. I Mahay have to celebrate if Reyes gets a hit here.
  25. I'm calling a line-out to a LFer who had no business playing that deep. That's one thing about the Braves I could never figure out -- that they always seem to have the fielders in the exact correct spot. I mean I realize there's some scouting info to all that, but balls still get hit all over the place with some randomness to it all and they still seem to be right at them all the time.
