  1. Sure, the Crane pool. The cranes are normally gentle critters as they splash around, but occasinally they tend to fly a bit low and buzz just over the heads of unsuspecting posters. Otherwise the water's pretty nice.
  2. I guess that for every Ed-action there's an equal and opposite Ed-reaction ... or something like that. In other words, I have no idea. Welcome to the Pool
  3. Sounds like it was a fun game to watch ... although few probably watched it (and, no, I wasn't one of them). Not only was the 4-hour+ delay bad enough but since there appears to be some rule where no Yanqui game can take less than 3:15 under normal circumstances they were already looking at past 2AM if things went smoothly. Then this one went 11 innings to boot - ending on a Carlos Guillen 3R walkoff HR - so the game time was 4:26, making the wait + game a tidy 8 hours 27 minutes. Supposedly there were fireworks planned (maybe that's why there were still fans at the end) but they canceled that somewhere along the line. Guess they're smarter than those folks in Atlanta were 22 years back. There used to be a curfew rule in the AL but apparently that gets quashed if it's during a team's last trip in - and since most teams only make one trip to all but their in-division opponents that rule effectively doesn't exist anymore. Fortunately for all involved Saturday's game is a night contest. Tigger OFer Curtis Granderson hit 2 triples (also a double) giving him 21 for the year!! Tigger 2B-man Placido Polanco made an error, his first in 147 consecutive games. Mariners also won dropping the Yanx to 3 behind in the WC race.
  4. Perez - 3.5 Reyes - 1.3 Wright - 2.4 Milledge - 0.8 DiFelice - 1.0 Feliciano - 0.5 Gotay - 0.5
  5. - Willie had some words with Gotay after the caught stealing so I'm not sure he called that one. An exuberant Gotay might have been caught up in all the running recently and gone on his own. - Same might have been true with the Gotay bunt earlier - although that one wasn't so bad either way. - Definitely didn't like the DiFelice bunt and ya gotta figure that one was called from the bench.
  6. Following a [u:4e0547633f]FOUR HOUR[/u:4e0547633f] rain delay in Detroit, the Tigers/Yanx game is getting ready to start at 11:06 PM local time. I'm fucking stunned they'd wait this long to play a game. Looks like they'll go to any lengths to avoid playing a DH, something that would be easily doable as this is the first of a four game series.
  7. btw, Marlon's PH numbers for this go-around as a Met are 4-for-7 w/3 2Bs + a HR, including 3-for-3 w/RiSP. Man, that's just freakin' nasty!!
  8. FWIW, I think Ralph is fine mentally. He has some obvious problems expressing himself at times which would make him tough to listen to over the long haul. But I still enjoy his pop-ins with the local crew and I think he and Timmy - who had a great and unforced chemistry between them back in the day - will be worth listening to for an inning via a national broadcast. (like I'm not going to be watching the game no matter who they put there)
  9. Well then it has to be Humber
  10. But not more than one 'f'
  11. Feliciano - 1.2 Schoeneweis - 0.5 Reyes - 1.0 Castillo - 1.3 Beltran - 1.0 Anderson - 2.4 Wright - 1.1 Green - 0.5
  12. During the 3rd inning of Saturday's FOX telecast of the Mets/Dogers game, Ralph Kiner will join Tim McCarver (plus whoever Tim's p-b-p man du jour is these days since Joe Buck is probably doing pre-game research for some all-important exhibition football game) in the TV booth. btw, starting times for this weekend's games: Fri - 7:10, SNY (Perez v Penny) Sat - 3:55, FOX national telecast (Hernandez v Stultz Sun - 8:05, ESPN national telecast (Maine v Tomko)
  13. Letterman on the 30-3 Tex-Balt game: - Last time I saw 30 on a scoreboard it was at a Knicks game - Worst mauling in sports NOT involving Michael Vick - Baltimore was actually ahead 3-0 but then made the mistake of putting up the 'Mission Accomplished' sign
  14. And now I think you HAVE to do it.
  15. I'd pinch-run for Alomar now. Maine, Perez, El Duque, anyone!!
  16. It's al set up for the newbie to be a hero

  19. Someone get ready to cue Marley's 'Redemption Song' for Carlos II
  20. This is just going to make the comeback that much sweeter. It's time to go Dustin' Hoffman again.
  21. That inside corner hasn't been a strike all night.
  22. Normal defensive alignments and neither one of those is a hit ... but the first hit set up the in-tight defense on the 2nd one.

The problem with this "award" is that it's nothing more than a popularity contest on account of it being a write-in vote yet, because it's sponsored by Rawlings, it'll carry the reputation of being some kind of official proclamation.
  24. Also last night; Brandon Webb's run at the scoreless innings streak was over in the 1st inning - still nearly two complete game shutouts shy of Hershiser's record. Milwaukee got a runner on 3rd with one out ... so Arizona opts to play the infield in with Prince at bat in order to try and cut down the run. Didn't work obviously, but I question the strategy of doing so even if it had. The Snakes wound up winning the game with Webb giving up 2 runs over 7 and getting the win.
  25. Philip Humber had a 10 K, 1 BB, No-hit game going against the Iowa Cubs for 8 innings last night. He was pulled after giving up a 1-out single in the 9th ... at which point Ambiorix Burgos came in and allowed not only that runner to score but 2 more as well tying the game at 3. The Zephyrs went on to lose in the 10th.
