  1. - Castro pops out - Castillo PHing for pitcher - Aguila due up
  2. "3 blown save in a row, in under a week. wow. When Billy is good, he's very very good, but when he is bad... he is horrid." Also doesn't help that even when he's not pitching the rest of the pen has been horrid.
  3. And they follow that with a sac bunt and sac fly and Arizona leads 5-4
  4. Heilman coming off 2 innings last ngiht. Upton leding off ... and he doubles
  5. Wright robbed of shot down 3B line! 2 outs and they're walking Beltran to get to Delgado.
  6. Well, he went with the Chavez sac bunt. 1 out, Reyes on 2nd I hate this bunt LESS than most others.
  7. And now our friend Mr. Reynolds again -- and he Ks this time. Hero time, with the top of the order due up.
  8. Another fuckin infield chop and they can't turn the DP -- tie game, 1st & 3rd, 2 outs
  9. Walk - infield chop - double - walk unfreakinbelievable
  10. Ahh yes, game 1 was an "Armando game". He had saved something like 13 consecutive up to that point but coughed up a leadoff 9th inning HR to Craig Counsell to tie the game (Strickland later lost it) and the cries of "Why THIS Game?!?!?" were heard all over New York. Of course there was nothing remarkable about that particular game that made a blown save there any more or less horrific than it would have been in the month or two preceding it, but AB took the brunt of the shit-storm for not only that one but each of the losses that followed as the season turned south whether he appeared in them or not.
  11. AG/DC wrote: That's what tack-on runs are for, and we gave some to our bullpen to work with today. That's what good teams do. Which is why it was annoying when our 3 & 4 hitters popped out with bases loaded the previous frame.
  12. - Melvin goes to a lefty PH - so Willie goes to Schoeneweis - so Melvin goes to his remaining righty PH (catcher Casey) ... who flies out on a 3-0 count
  13. I suspect the crowd blasting Willie for using Heilman rather than Smith last week (back during Heilman's last bad outing) will suddenly lose their memory over this one.
  14. As I think I was just saying ...
  15. I was kind of wondering how big a lead we need here. 4 runs is a bit iffy.
  16. AG/DC wrote: Aguila in left. A double-switch which actually brings the pitcher's spot up a bit earlier -- but that's of little concern right now.
  17. Castro says: 'Welcome to the house, Haren'
  18. Wednesday night's in-game trivia question linked Reyes to Ty Cobb as the only players to have 50 triples and 250 stolen bases before turning 25. Now that's kind of a quirky record, but I do think fans tend to forget sometimes just how young he still is and take for granted that he's supposed to be much closer to grizzled vet stage by now. So I thought I'd look at some current stars and check on how many ML ABs they had (approx in some cases) by birthday #25 compared to our boy. Ken Griffey Jr. - 3,180 ARod - ~2,900 Reyes - 2,775 Miguel Cabrera - 2,750 Jeter - ~ 2,200 Jimmy Rollins - 1,974 Chipper Jones ~ 1,225 Alfonso Soriano - 632 Lance Berkman - 444 Matt Holliday - 400 Chase Utley - 134 Ryan Howard - 39 There may be some others I'm missing who should be up there, but the only ones I was able to find with a longer career to date at that age were two #1 overall draft picks and teenage phenoms. Remember also that Reyes lost approx 300 ABs when what should have been his first full year was a partial washout due to those mysterious leg and back injuries.
  19. I look at it this way; we got shut out for about a 9 inning span (4th - 12th) AND had a closer serve up a soul-crushing 3R HR in the 9th but we won the game anyway!! Suxx for Pelfrey, but I ain't apologizin' for the win.
  20. Hit by pitch, out at least a month. Lotsa injuries lately. Pujols is gone at least 3 weeks.
  21. Pelfrey - 5.0 Beltran - 3.8 Heilman - 0.8 Vargas - 0.4
  22. Now including Wednesday's game 6 games total, 1-5 record TEAMIPHRBBKMETS2024141019OPPs26.1123719
  23. Nah, day game tomorrow. That party's on hold til Thursday night.
