  1. Scott Eyre had a 1.8 WHiP last season. This year he pitched 11 innings with the Cubs and gave up 9 runs. Since the deal to Philly he's unscored upon thru 7+ and tongiht he faced 5 batters and the only fair ball we hit was a GiDP (also K - K - K - Foul out)
  2. 1) Not normally, no. What Boras is trying to do here is create a FA through a technicality. If you go [u:90178185ae]UN[/u:90178185ae]drafted then you become what is logically called an undrafted FA. At that point you can then sign with any team - although the fact that you were ignored generally means you're not real hot property and only real late bloomers become big leaguers via that route. 2) Most college players drafted are Juniors so, yes, if you don't like the money being offered (or just like being in college) you can return for a Senior year. Most players, however, don't like to do that becuase a senior will have less leverage in negotiations the following year since the threat of going back to school isn't there anymore.
  3. This doesn't have anything to do with big-market/small market. Boras is simply looking for a loophole in order to get Alvarez declared a FA so he can negotiate an open-market contract that'll make the $6mil one he just signed look like pocket change. He would have done so just as quickly to a big market club.
  4. It's all right Mole, I'm only bleeding
  5. The order of blame for last night goes: 1) Pedro's 5-run 5th 2) the bat nap for the final 9 innings 3) the pen The other thing that sucks about losses like last night is that it prevents you from enjoying the misery of other teams - like the Yanx losing to the BoSox (in a series that could kill them) even though Beckett was scratched and with ARod going 0-5 w/2 Ks, 2 GiDPs, and 7 LOBs - or Florida giving up 2 in the 8th and 4 more in the 9th to lose 10-9 to Atlanta
  6. ]So does a "100" mean that the Mets are league average for that particular inning? That's the idea. And our OPS in 1st innings is (an adjusted) 26% above lg norm while our 9th is 16% below To put it all in another perspective, the Mets are scoring; 42% of their runs in innings 1 thru 3 35% in innings 4-6 and 23% in 7-9 ... while the NL as a whole (minus NYM) are scoring; 34% of their runs in innings 1-3 36% in 4-6 and 30% in innings 7-9 That 7 thru 9 is lower makes sense since winning home teams either don't bat in the 9th or only bat until they have the exact # of runs they need. But while the run production for other teams takes a dip late in the game, ours falls off the cliff.

Sanchez would be under team control next year but is not presently under contract. What we do in the off-season is a question for the off-season. I can't see them just dumping relievers now (unless in a trade) so close to Sept 1.
  8. The leadoff double to a relief pitcher wasn't a great idea either. Yeah I know it was pretty much a lucky/well-placed grounder - but that AB changed the whole inning from a leadoff out to a RiSP and the top of that lineup licking their chops.
  9. Considering they're a reliever short to start with and that Heilman is almost certainly unavailable today, Reyes III wouldn't be a surprise although I'm not sure who they'll ship out to affect that. On the other hand they could gamble on Johan pitching deep and the day off tomorrow getting them back on track. Then you'll just have a shitty pen instead of a shitty, tired, short-handed pen. Who goes for Cancel -- Argenis? Maybe Show is pissed that Jerry calls on Feliciano first all the time even though he hasn't gotten anyone out since around the time of the Bay of Pigs Invansion
  10. Coste only played 5 innings and had as many hits as the entire Mets team did over the last 8
  11. Several sources were saying today that Niese will get the Sept 2nd start in Milwaukee - although none of those sources appeared to be the Mets themselves.
  12. Well that didn't take long.
  13. So it looks like we're down to Seanez v Schoeneweis .. probably for the duration. Sucks to go 14+ innings just two days after you remove one pitcher from the roster.
  14. Or you can strike his fat ass out, I'm easy.
  15. Centerfield wrote: Don't pitch to Howard. Yeah, I agree with you (and Ronnie). Normally I hate to put a winning run on but they can't PR for him and it'll take several hits to score him.
  16. It's midnight in Manhattan, this is no time to get cute
  17. ="AG/DC"]And the offense that fails in the last third of the game can't attributed to different personnel. Egg-Zactly!! We know our starters are better than our pen so the Runs-Against disparity early vs. late is more easily explainable. The Runs-Scored disparity, however, is, for the most part, the same guys simply not being nearly as good as they were an hour or two earlier - and against theoretically worse pitchers.
  18. Elster88 wrote: That's crazy. Where'd you get those stats? Baseball-Reference.com has everything if you look long enough. ]runs are runs though, when the offense scores it scores and the pitching staff needs to do its job. Sure, but when they flash up those "run differential" stats -- the one where we're plus a million in the first 3 innings and minus 600,000 in the last three -- your first reaction is; 'Man the pen suxx!' ... which it certainly does. But also the offense has been so lousy late in games that we'd be minus in the late innings even if the pen didn't suck. IOW, virtually any mistakes by the pen are killers because they're never covered.
  19. ]Doc, honestly, you don't want to watch And he especially didn't want to watch Wright snagging the grounder but then losing his balance so he couldn't get an out. Bases loaded, two outs, Rollins up.
  20. Can you imagine the damage Bruntlett would do if he was like a good hitter or something?
  21. Keith's not complaining about the long game tonight because he doesn't have to drive home.
  22. I don't blame him for taking that chance though. Not with two outs.
  23. Met OPS by inning: 1st - .865 2nd - .727 3rd - .835 4th - .772 5th - .728 6th - .829 7th - .691 8th - .685 9th - .628 I mean you probably already knew and/or suspected this, but the ineptness of the bats just gives the sucky pen that much less of a margin for error.
  24. HOLY SCHNIKEY THAT WAS SMOKED!!
  25. Elster88 wrote: We're running out of bullpen. We ran out of bullpen sometime in May. Now the 10th will be the bottom of our lineup vs the top of theirs.
