  1. ..
  2. How does the first half of a 1-1 game with no pitching changes and not many baserunners take 1:45? Never mind, I know the answer(s) - but it's frickin ridiculous.
  3. I didn't see the graphic but I'm assuming it's played for a team in the WS and then later managed that same team in a WS. Otherwise I suspect there'd be a lot more than just 7.
  4. Hargrove never played in a WS
  5. Billy Martin
  6. Phil Garner - Houston & Ozzie Guillen - ChiSox ... in the same series no less
  7. How is that [grounder past ARod] not scored an error?
  8. GAME 2 -- Pedro vs Burnett Lineup changes: Swisher out - Hairston in; Posada out - Molina in Also, I hadn't realized that the Yanx dropped 3rd catcher Cervelli for the series (in favor of reliever Brian Bruney) meaning that Girardi is stuck without a backup if/when he uses Posada to PH. Cervelli made several appearances during the earlier rounds, mostly in the Burnett games where Molina started and then was yanked not long after Burnett was.
  9. Actually it's Clifton Phifer Lee (I looked it up earlier)
  10. Hey Girardi, try a couple other relievers why doncha? The ones so far have worked out pretty good, eh?
  11. I want to see Cliff Lee stay in this game as long as possible ... and then maybe a batter or two after that.
  12. I know I've mentioned this before, but I hate the term 'throwback player'
  13. My debut was a week later -- http://thecranepoolforum.yuku.com/topic/2366/t/Punks-in-the-forum.html I wasn't part of the original secret society
  14. OK, that one was a bit more than 316 ft
  15. 2nd base ump CLEARLY called a catch on that ball - so it's Matsui's fault for not seeing that and getting his ass back to 1st. And now they get the call right but I don't even see what all the discussion was about.
  16. Nice to see them get burned by a 316 ft special for a change.
  17. Oh, and the CPF was under attack. Those board wars weren't until later on that winter. In fact it was mostly during the 2001 WS that the CPF was more or less born as a full-time board. It had existed for several months as a retreat board for a select few but it was around the time of the Series that the retreaters just started to hang out on their own and discuss baseball on the nascent CPF rather than just only using it to talk about how tough it was becoming to talk intelligently elsewhere. Which kind of reminds me that I later retroactively assigned November 1st (right in the middle of that 9/11-delayed WS) to be the CPF's unofficial/official birthday - so this weekend will make it 8 years of Cranepooling. The board wars came a few months later when word leaked out about the up-to-then secret board and its subterfuge recruiting efforts. oe: http://thecranepoolforum.yuku.com/topic/2392/t/Check-out-the-rennaissance-here-in-the-Crane-Pool.html
  18. Roster changes: Phils add Brett Myers and drop Miguel Cairo. I think anytime the words 'drop', 'Miguel', and 'Cairo' are used in a sentence and in that order it's generally a good thing for the team - even if it adds an ass like Myers. Yanx are expected to swap out pinch-runner Freddie Guzman in favor of Eric Hinske (always good to add a DH-type when 3 of the games won't be played with one) but I don't know that this is official yet. Maybe this signals that they're nervous about Swisher's bad showing in the ALCS and are considering giving Hinskie a start against some random RHP (like maybe Pedro). Supposedly Girardi hinted at using Matsui in the OF during one of the game in Philly since he can't DH but I can't believe that would happen. Dude hasn't used a glove since sometime in late 2008.
  19. Yeah, I thought it might be too obscure without an explanation but having to explain it too much means it probably wasn't worth it.
  20. I remember enough Met fans in 1996 trotting out their reasons as to why a WS in the Bronx was harmless, among them; "c'mon it's New York" ... "can't root for the Braves" ... "THIS Yanqui team isn't so bad" ... "it's not the same as the old days now that Steinbreener's mellowed" ... "gotta pull for Doc & Darryl" ... "they haven't won in a while, what's it gonna hurt" I blame those people for not only inviting the subsequent era but causing it as well..
  21. Mike Scioscia teed off on this very subject the other day. He wasn't blaming it for their loss but he pointed out how un-baseball-like it is to suddenly play just nine games spread over some twenty-some days. Also Jayson Stark (on radio this morning) points out how - if this series lasts long enough to go 6 or 7 games so that both scheduled off days kick in - the Phils & Yanx will have 17 off days between the end of the reg season and the end of the WS after a season which normally has only 20 off days. The players, he reported, HATE IT. The main snag seems to be that the networks don't want the WS to begin on a Saturday (as they used to) but in mid-week. MLB agreed to this but made no adjustments to the end of the regular season so the extra off-days are essentially about making up the stagger to delay the WS four more days. Those extra off days don't actually prevent any head-to-head LCS games.
