  1. Game 6: Victorino IS in the lineup and CF. Ben Francisco in LF, Werth in RF, Ibanez as DH Yanqui OF = Damon, Gardner, Swisher, w/Matsui as DH Infields need no introduction on either side.
  2. I'm hoping we see an Andy Pettitte circa 2001 Game 6 moment. He retired 5 of the 14 batters he faced that night and left in the 3rd already down 4-0 and with two runners on. Then - thanks to ace reliever Jay Witasik who came in and promptly went (check out this sequence!): single, single, single, single, K, single, double, single, double, K - both of Pettitte's two remaining runners scored and each hurler wound up charged with 6 earned runs. Only a GiDP plus a runner getting thrown out at the plate kept the D'Backs lead at "only" two touchdowns heading into the fourth. -- Link = http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ARI/ARI200111030.shtml Pettitte's pitched over his head in the last half of this season and it's about time that he blows one up. A potential clinching game on short rest is just that opportunity I thinks.
  3. Catcher Lucas sprained his wrist - Du-Da, Du-Da
  4. Part of the accusation is that Philly uses a camera mounted somewhere in the outfield to do this stealing. Apparently the Mets accused them of this several years back and so Bowa is using the 'everybody knows they do it' line as his reasoning while otherwise offering no real proof. In addition to Posada's multi-sign dance he does, it might also be an explanation for the 4 meetings per inning minimum the Yanx seem to be employing. Maybe they should revert to Morse code instead.
  5. So just in case you're well into baseball withdrawal by this weekend, you can always tune in to the AFL All-Star game on the MLB Network Saturday night. Looks like Ike Davis will be the only Met on the roster
  6. I think Happ is maybe the starter for game 7 depending on whether their confidence level in Hamels is at ZERO or just at low.
  7. Yeah Evans was added to the roster recently - apparently as a replacement for someone although I'm not sure if that someone was a Met.
  8. And now the fuckin' tying run is up again
  9. Say it with me folks: Man that Jeter always gets a hit when you need it!!
  10. BP's Kevin Goldstein talked about Mejia today and his velocity. More intrigued than blown away at this point but that's not too surprising and the AFL stats are all of 7+ innings so far. ... Everyone wants to talk about the velocity, which is unquestionably excellent, as he sat at 93-97 mph on Friday while touching 99, but what about the 12.91 ERA after four games that includes 14 hits and nine walks in just 7 2/3 innings? Yes, at 20, he's very young for the league, but he's also much more of a thrower than a pitcher, even for his age group. His arm is a special one, but it's also a bit of a spectacular mess.
  11. 2009 WS Game times: Game 1 - 3:27 Game 2 - 3:25 Game 3 - 3:25 Game 4 - 3:25 ... so I guess we can pretty much pencil in what time tonight's game is going to end. These games are also just short of half-again as long as the games in the 1969 WS. Those averaged 2:21 with none longer than 2:33 (and that was the 10 inning game)
  12. Reasons they DON'T have to win tonight: - because watching them lose after being up 3-1 is going to be SO much fun
  13. Well, if there's one thing Damon can still do well it's run. Problem was that, with the shift on, it was Feliz taking the throw and not Rollins, so the fact that Damon got two steps on him meant he wasn't going to be caught. At first I thought that Damon thought the throw had gone into CF and got himself trapped. Pretty smart play all around for a guy who one Boston sportswriter once described as being "a very uncomplicated person" -- a diplomatic way of saying that he's basically as dumb as a sack of rocks. Overall though I suspect that play is destined to get more than its share of credit for the win. With an HBP and back-to-back doubles following it he obviously was going to score from 2nd anyway (or from 1st for that matter). So it then becomes a game of trying to "credit" the double-SB for Lidge not being able to retire any of the remaining batters he faced (he only got out of the innings when Posada ran into an out) and that is the classic 'outcome proves the cause' argument that will be accepted as fact since it can never be proven false.
  14. Why couldn't Lidge have picked last season to be a fuck-up?
  15. If we're going to honor old Braves I think Jeter should have won the Joe Adcock award. Adcock, like Jeter, was the third best offensive player on his team too.
  16. Who's shutting down the side in the 8th? .... not the whiskey drinkin' Indian.
