  1. Eric Hinske spent his winter (plus a couple of grand) getting his entire back tatooed. I'd be happy if the Mets rejected the idea of offering him a contract for that reason alone.
  2. And I'm not trying to argue that we should be hanging onto Delgado for the future. At this point he makes no sense at all and a argument can be made (and was here by some) that he was kept one year too long. But I'm just stunned to the degree that the ghost of Delgado past is being painted as having been an anchor on this team all along. Yeah, there was that real bad stretch in his 2nd year but, even with that factored in, 100 HRs & 200 XBHs over a 3-season span are nothing to sneeze at - especially with great playoffs thrown in.
  3. Maybe BB-Rf is starting to incorporate Japanese stats into their database (be cool if that's the case) - or at least the JPL stats of those guys who come over here. They just have one year for him at the moment but I bet that grows over time. Filing that stuff under 'minor league' is probably just a way of keeping those numbers separate from the ML stats. 'Other' might be a more accurate designation but one step at a time. Among other things I notice that BB-RF has added recently is the burial spot of deceased guys (or at least some of them) to go along with the date and place of death.
  4. One reason for finding scapegoats to the power outage is that it saves fans/media from admitting that Delgado's absence was a HUGE part of it and, for whatever reason(s), they'd much rather throw him into the 'they're better off without him' pile.
  5. Jim Hickman on the right, and I'm guessing Joe Christopher front-right.
  6. The best thing about Emrick is that not only are his calls nearly perfect all the time but he also knows when to shutup and let the game breath. Just a life-long hockey geek who grew up in hoops-mad Indiana, he's as good as anyone in any sport and hockey p-b-p is maybe hardest of all. Also a big Pitt Pirates fan. Garagiola was probably the first of the ex-jock to have a sustained career in the booth, but part of the reason he lasted as long as he did was by being a typical see-no-evil ex-player who would be termed very vanilla if he were doing games now. For what he was he was fine but I wouldn't put him up there with some of the others.
  7. btw, if it seems like Crosby's been around for a while already ... he's still half a year from turning [u:1hlb89ay]23[/u:1hlb89ay]. That #87 he wears is because he was born on 8/7/87
  8. The other thing I was just about to say pre-goal is that Crosby's be surprisingly invisible (of the games that I've seen anyway).
  9. Somebody needs to score - I don't want to see this decided by a shoot-out. oe: OK, I didn't mean that quickly.
  10. This is fun!! Suicide rates are going to go up north of the border if they don't pull this one out. This game was always going to be a bigger loss for Canada than a win for US (if that's the way it turns out) even if it didn't involve blowing a late lead.
  11. Rizzuto on that list is absurd. He's the only ex-player/non-professional there and simply being the quirky/funny guy that the home town folks tend to love shouldn't put him in the same conversation with the rest of that crew much less as part of a top ten list. Then throw in that most (if not all) of the others had at least some national exposure in addition to their home following which Scooter never did for quite obvious reasons.
  12. I had the same reaction, but if you read the comments section Rubin explains that: "People are being incredibly tight-lipped about Rac's trip. I think he's getting leery of getting too much attention, which generally isn't a good thing for a bullpen catcher." I think the whole thing would be good for at least a segment on 'Mets Weekly'
  13. I believe that's the middle one from the trio of Mrs. Joe Torres.
  14. Whether Fonz goes into the NYM HoF should have nothing to do with whether or not he retires as a Met. Plus does showing up to camp and getting cut without ever making the team even mean that you were a Met when you hung 'em up? I know that whole 'retire as' thing is big in the NFL, but it's stupid there too and there's no reason to copy it.
  15. Except that neither Easley nor Anderson were six years past their expiration dates at the time. Seriously, I liked Fonzie as much as anyone but the line about wanting "to show he can still play" is priceless. He's had about 9 chances with several teams over the recent half-decade and has shown the answer to be 'No' each time.
  16. A NY Post piece today is saying that Joe Morgan will not return to the booth for ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball and speculates about the already-on-the-payroll BV as a possible replacement. If all that does come to pass - coupled with the previous Steve Phillips banishment from the 'worldwide leader' - it's a win-win-win situation for Sunday night viewing as far as I'm concerned.
  17. I think a handful of movies got worse advance reviews than this one -- but you may have to go back to 'Ishtar' to find one.
  18. TransMonk wrote: Per Metsblog, Francisco Rodriguez has pink-eye and has been told to stay away from the team. I've been diagnosed with a weak arm, slow bat, and poor foot-work and have been told to stay away from the team.
  19. JF's definition of pitch recognition: "Hey I recognize that, it's a pitch" ... HACK
  20. In order to get better pitch recognition wouldn't you have to have some pitch recognition to begin with?
  21. Barajas, Coste, Santos, Thole, Blanco LH reliever Arturo Lopez was designated for assignment to make 40-man roster room for Barajas
  22. Don't you people realize that Dolan's empire is so huge that he has no use for you non-Cablevision watching / non-Optimum on-line surfing / non Optimum-voice phone using / non Newsday subscribing types? And you want him to cater to you? ... Hah!, I bet he doesn't realize you exist! Imagine if he had bought the Mets (as some were begging him to do) a bunch of years back? Hell, he probably would have worked out some system where only subscribers to some or all of the above got first crack at the top tickets.
  23. Look, Grimm's so drunk right now that he's stuttering.
