  1. Hamels thru 6 vs Padres - has walked 2 Of course the Phils haven't scored yet either so it's 0-0 bottom 6.
  2. He just wanted to be on the record in advance that he's against bad draft picks.
  3. Takahashi - 1.0 Rodriguez - 1.0 Feliciano - 0.3 Pagan - 1.5 Wright - 2.2 Francoeur - 2.8 Barajas - 1.2
  4. Who woulda thought that Texas-Arlington is in Arlington, Texas. Thanx Bud. Do you get the idea that Bud could somehow manage to be stiff at a Hawai'in luau even after downing about ten umbrella drinks?
  5. attgig wrote: seems like not so sure of a thing for a #7 pick... Nothing is a sure thing, even at this level. A quick run-down of the history of first round picks would dampen a lot of fan enthusiasm.
  6. #1 - Bryce Harper The Nats have had six months to think about this but apparently needed another five minutes.
  7. They're going to milk this as if each team actually needs the 5 minutes they're allowed. Take away the TV cameras and this thing goes twice as fast.
  8. I think he's mostly a bat off the bench at this point -- the type you use early in an inning to get on base (he's not a power guy at all) -- and the emergency CF until Beltran gets back. Oh I'm sure he'll see the odd start here or there just so Jerry can give each of the regulars a day off. But it's not like Bay, Pagan or Francoeur really NEED a defensive replacement unless a double-switch is in order and one of them is the last in line.
  9. Havens lands hisself on this past week's 'Hot Sheet' in [u:4h1sqgch]Baseball America[/u:4h1sqgch] Why He's Here: .360/.560/.840 (9-for-25), 3 HR, 1 2B, 1 3B, 6 RBIs, 6 R, 5 BB, 6 SO The Scoop: As discouraging as it was to see Havens miss yet more time with injury this seasonin this case a strained obliquehe's proven to be worth the wait. He homered twice off Orioles righthander Chorye Spoone and once off Indians reliever Bryan Price this week, while continuing to show a discerning batting eye. That's not an anomaly. Power and patience have been Havens' strong suitshe has walked in 12 percent of his minor league plate appearances while boasting a .199 isolated power. For a middle infielder in the New York-Penn, Florida State and Eastern leagues, that's pretty darn good. Taken four picks after Ike Davis in the 2008 draft, Havens just might join Ike on the right side of the Mets infield later this season.
  10. Late rumors have Zach Cox - often associated with the Mets - asking for "Pedro Alvarez money" or ~ $6 mil. The thing with Cox is that he's a rare 'sophomore eligible' player meaning it's easier for him to return to college for a 3rd year if he doesn't like what he's offered. But Alvarez was the 2nd overall pick in his year and I don't think anyone thinks Cox is on the same plane. Some describe him as a 'tweener' with not enough glove for 2B or enough power for 3B An alternative might be Indiana HSer Justin O'Conner if one of those expected to go in the top 4 (Sale or Pomeranz) is still available. O'Conner is listed as either a C or an IF but the Mets reportedly like him as a catcher. One report declares; "He might have the best catcher's arm in the minors the second he signs, and while there are some big holes in his swing, his raw power is equally large as far as worthy consideration."
  11. Niese - 3.8 Davis - 2.6 Wright - 1.8 Tejeda - 0.6 Francoeur - 0.6 Pagan - 0.6
  12. Dickey - 3.5 Dessens - 0.7 Bay - 1.4 Francoeur - 1.3 Tejeda - 1.0 Reyes - 0.6 Wright - 0.5 Rodriguez - 0.5 Barajas - 0.5
  13. All teams have now hit the 1/3 mark of the season. This is the first spot where I like to look at various and 'project' the end of the season. All team marks and individual stats are from where that team was after game 54. Some have played 1 or 2 since. Braves - 32-22 Martin Prado: 222 Hits Phillies - 30-24 Jayson Werth: 69 2Bs Marlins - 27-27 Jorge Cantu - 126 RBIs Mets - 27-27 David Wright: 207 Ks Nationals - 26-28 Nyjer Morgan: 36 SB, 27 CS Reds - 31-23 Scott Rolen: 36 HRs Cardinals - 31-23 Albert Pujols: 54 IBBs Cubs - 24-30 Aramis Ramirez: 501 ABs; .158/.222/.263 Pirates - 22-32 Zack Duke: 188 IPs, 318 baserunners Brewers - 22-32 924 Team runs allowed Astros - 20-34 Michael Bourne: 51 SBs Padres - 32-22 Pitching staff: 429 Ks/174 BBs Dodgers - 31-23 Matt Kemp: 132 Runs Scored Giants - 29-25 Tim Lincecum: 249 Ks Rockies - 28-26 Ubaldo Jimenez: 30 Wins; 241 IPs; 138 Hits; 21 Runs Allowed DBacks - 20-34 Dan Haren: 279 hits & 48 HRs allowed
  14. Nice day all around. Not just a comeback from 5-0 but we pick up a game on the entire NL East - Marlins give up a 5 run lead to Mets - Nats lost in the 10th to Cincy after Matt Capps gives up 3 in the 9th. Nats actually score twice in their 9th to tie but can't protect it. - Phils come back from a 3-0 deficit v San Diego but leave 14 on base and lose it in the 10th - Braves lose to the Dodgers on a walk-off single in the 11th
  15. Makes sense that with the day off on Monday Blanco will be more recovered from whatever bang-up he's had - so no more need for Santos. Now suddenly with Pagan, Bay & Francoeur all hitting, a bench of Carter, Feliciano & Tatis (plus the backup C & IF) doesn't look too bad.
  16. Not a home-team friendly wind here so far.
  17. So if a replay rule is instated in baseball I guess we're spending that last half-inning reviewing: - whether Hanley was still on the base when receiving the flip on the DP - whether Pagan was safe at 1st on the back end of the DP - and whether Pagan was then safe at 2nd on his steal attempt
  18. Well, those 'injury rehab' stints have time limits - something that's MLB mandated not just a team decision - so Ollie has to be re-instated once that's up assuming he continues to exercise his right not to be assigned to the minors.
  19. More mocking going on as MLB.com (Jonathan Mayo) thinks Michael Choice (OF, Texas-Arlington) is the Mets' choice. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100602&content_id=10713530&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  20. Ollie has the right to dispute a DL assignment that he doesn't think is right. It's rare that a player does something like this - many are too young and too afraid to rock the boat - but if there's nothing to it and he thinks it's just retribution for not accepting a demotion then he/Boras could certainly challenge it. If they're not then it's unlikely the commish's office is going to intervene. Oh, and Hanley, come here and play like that and we'll boo your expanding ass too.
  21. He's forcing those 'bust' jokes a bit too much. Nice game. - the triple by Ross was the only really hard hit ball off Dickey. It then took a soft single to get him in and the two-run inning was mostly seeing-eye stuff and less than great defense ... but he gave up nothing beyond that. - nice defense by Wright but otherwise not so tight, especially around 2B and that goes for both teams. Nobody seemed to be able to get a good grip on the ball. Catchers too. -big ups to Dessens - Frankie's only problem (besides the usual walk) is that he's so out of position after he throws that he had no chance getting Coghlan after that swinging bunt. Mariano throws that guy out by two strides just on account of being in position. - Angel picked a bad day to have a bad day. Runners were all over the place during his ABs - Dickey looks like a pretty good all-around athlete
  22. Late mock drafts have Mets taking: Cal St Fullerton SS Christian Colon (Sickels) -- http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/6/4/1500248/final-mock-draft#storyjump OR Zach Cox - 3B (maybe 2B) U Arkansas (BP - Kevin Goldstein) -- http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=11070
