  1. Atlanta scored 2 in the 10th to break a 4-4 tie although Billy W is trying to give it back: Out - 2B - HBP - Loooooong fly out
  2. Yes, MUCH bigger factors. As were the fact that we got what, 6 hits off this bad pitching staff and have now been shutout by a horrid Snakes' bullpen for like 10 straight innings at this point. I'm not the biggest Jerry fan in the world either but he's starting to be used as a crutch to explain all NYM problems. The players gotta play too.
  3. Rangers continue to stock up on ... well, anything as they add Christian Guzman from the Nats for two minor league pitchers. Guzman has 10-5 rights so still has to approve (apparently 10-5 guys get a 24 hr window to change their minds) but is expected to do so. Minor League pitchers Ryan Tatusko and Tanner Roark to the Nationals. Both were with Double-A Frisco where Tatusko was 9-2 with a 2.97 ERA in 13 starts and 11 relief appearances while Roark was 10-5 with a 4.20 ERA in 17 starts and five relief appearances.
  4. - Phils lose to the Nats as Oswalt gets his butt kicked - Meanwhile, Happ in Houston has held the Brewers to 2 hits thru 6 - Yanx lose 3-2 to the Rays in a fight-for-first series. Rays close to just one game out. No HR for poor Alex.
  5. Edgy DC wrote: There's a financial interest for both Gooden and the Mets to "retire" him as a Met. As meaningless as it is professionally, Gooden's Metliness and the Mets' Gooden-ness are commodities that they need to secure for further exploitation in the nostolgia marketplace. Which all implies that there are people stupid enough to get roped in by this sort of shit. "Hey, did you hear that Gooden's signing jockstraps down at the Modell's? -- Let's go" =#BF0000]"Nah, what do I want that for, he took drugs, hit cops, hit women, drank his way out of a HoF career, and wasn't even a Met for the last 7 years" "No, didn't you hear, he retired as a Met ... he's a Met now" =#BF0000]"Really!?! Oooh, let me get my coat"
  6. Back from his stress fracture, Lutz is skating enough circles around the pitching in AA to make BA's 'Hot Sheet' for this week (at #12) - Team: Double-A Binghamton (Eastern) - Why He's Here: .500/.538/1.167 (6-for-12), 2 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBIs, 6 R, 1 BB, 2 SO - The Scoop: After rehabbing a stress fracture in his left foot for about six weeks, Lutz made a triumphant return to Binghamton, hitting a home run in his first at-bat. Lutz made a rehab appearance at high Class A St. Lucie before seeing action in two games at Binghamton this week, but he picked up right where he left off before the injury. Lutz, who missed most of his '07 debut season with a fractured left foot, has 18 extra-base hits in 37 Double-A games this year, including 10 home runs.
  7. The call-up (did this actually happen btw?) is going to spend most of his time sitting on his ass for the next two weeks and then go back. I'm not particularly interested in inspired or interesting call-ups which may burn an option year and/or require a 40-man adjustment. Besides, wasn't Feliciano the "inspired" choice just two months back?
  8. I've never understood the appeal of these one-day contracts. Who cares what you "retire as" - especially when it's a phony retirement coming more than a decade after the real retirement. I know they're all the rage in the NFL but they're stupid there too and I hope the trend doesn't catch on in MLB.
  9. Can anyone other than Dickey on this staff throw swing-and-miss stuff once in a while?
  10. Yeah, there's no way it's Downs - the Jays supposedly asked for Nieuwenhuis in exchange just a few days ago. And I highly doubt it's either Gregg - a nominal "closer" at one point, or Buck - a serviceable, young-ish catcher. Frasor, who I haven't kept tabs on lately (and, really, why would I?) is a possibility I suppose but why would he need to be PTBNL? The Jays can't bear to get through the next series without him?
  11. Cards LHP Jaime Garcia - the one who faced us Wednesday night and settled down after a rocky 1st inning - needs some attention here: 9-4 in 20 starts. 2.33 ERA; 103 hits in 116 IP; 94 K, 46 BB, 1.284 WHIP
  12. I wasn't watching the ESPN feed on this game the other day, although maybe others here were: http://deadspin.com/5599720/espn-anchor-commits-gaffe-oh-and-he-calls-citi-field-shitty-field-too
  13. Dickey - 5.3 Rodriguez - 0.2 Davis - 3.0 Pagan - 0.9 Beltran - 0.6
  14. smg58 wrote: So the Astros pair up a big bat with a dubious glove and an all-glove, no-bat shortstop. The acquisition of Wallace leads to speculation that Lance Berkman could also be packing before tomorrow night.
  15. Takahashi - 0.7 Dessens - 0.7 Rodriguez - 1.1 Parnell - 0.7 Reyes - 1.5 Wright - 1.3 Beltran - 1.5 Hessman - 1.5 Davis - 1.0
  16. Niese - 3.3 Valdes - 0.4 Rodriguez - 0.4 Francoeur - 1.9 Beltran - 1.1 Reyes - 1.1 Castillo - 1.0 Davis - 0.5 Pagan - 0.3
  17. Totally different kind of guy then them two. The problem with those guys was the part about them being considered borderline criminals - and by that I mean you can remove the 'borderline' part. Wallace isn't (at least as far as I know) a bad guy, he was just already big and slow in his early 20's which led peeps to question what he'll be like later on. But coming out of that draft his bat was considered as good as any and also as close to ML-ready as you can get.
  18. BUMP Two months of KTE-ing left and we need all the knowledge we can muster. I see where you're coming from although that line didn't particularly bother me - even if it was delivered by the (rumored) future Mrs. Derek Jeter. The part that annoyed me was the little sister role. Yeah, it wasn't really a big role, but if I wanted to watch/listen to some younger sibling deliver all the precociously smart lines that would never actually occur in real life I'd click on some formulaic sitcom. Other than that it wasn't too bad. Considering that it's the 900th re-telling of the 'is love fate' question there were a enough bright spots to keep it interesting.
  20. Matt Capps goes to the Twins for two prospects. Capps was acting as the Nats closer and will probably fill the same role for the Twinkies - or share it was other Nationals' cast-off Jon Rauch - a role that's been in flux since Joe Nathan's injury this spring. One of the prospects was highly touted catcher (at least defensively) Wilson Ramos who had a big debut when filling in for Joe Mauer earlier in the year. LHP Joe Testa is the other prospect -- don't know nuthin' about him. Drew Storen probably inherits the closer's job in Washington.
  21. Wallace is the guy with supposedly the biggest bat in that draft but also an equally big butt and folks were wondering about his defensive prowess before he was even drafted.
  22. I want at least a couple more runs here just so there's not even the temptation for Jerry to take R.A. out.
  23. Phils now adding the high-salary that they supposedly couldn't take on when they swapped out Lee in advance of adding Halladay. A cynic would say they just should have kept Lee all along but they claimed the high price and wanting to re-stock their system prevented that. Be interesting to see if this addition cost them more in prospects than what they got for Lee last winter.
