  1. Yeah, the part about having to clear waivers again is that other teams that may have wanted to claim him originally but were short-circuited by the NYM claim get another crack at him. Plus Emaus still fits the conditions that made him subject to the Rule 5 draft in the first place. Part of the Met decision to do this may have something to do with Muffy's better than expected defensive play as well as Emaus's bad play. I didn't think they'd pull the plus this quickly but if they reached the decision that Turner is a better bet going forward then there's no time like the present.

  3. Parnell - 1.0 Igarashi - 0.2 Misch - 0.3 Reyes - 1.0 Pagan - 1.0 Harris - 1.5 Beltran - 1.0

  6. I would have forgiven/understood one bunt today on account of him being in a funk and all, but he was really pushing it with two. Not that the effed-up second one wasn't more Davis's fault then his. Wonder if Terry called for either or both of them?
  7. * Was that Emaus' last game as a Met? -- Doubt it. It's not like CL Hu is knocking down walls either and I don't think they're going to give up on a Rule 5 guy in mid-April, particularly one that Riccardi drafted and now helped re-draft. He's just not going to start as often as many of us (me included) thought at the beginning. * Gee can stay when they send Pelfrey to the minor (I can hope). -- Pelfrey's not getting sent down (I don't even think he can be). Gee can hang around while Young is on the shelf as far as I'm concerned and maybe longer. No one ever considered Gee a "high ceiling" guy as he was rising through the system but it wouldn't be the first time that predictions like that miss. * One of the RPs needs to go when Bay returns to get another bat on the bench. -- Agreed, but the 13-man pen turned out to be almost a necessity in a week where they twice had three games inside a 24 hour window. Of course the expanded pen allowed us to pile up a ton of wins, but maybe it helped preserve a few arms for later on. * Now for a Rangers win and a Knicks win. -- Anything is possible I suppose. Then throw in a Yanqui loss tonight and I'll go break out the good booze.
  8. Could have done without that lead-off 4-pitch walk there Frankie ... but he survived. Terry C. had himself a better game than Freddi G did IMO.
  9. Today he's Readily Available Dickey.
  10. And it all works out fine.
  11. It was to go lefty-lefty but now the Braves counter with Chipper PH-ing for Freeman.
  12. Gee sharp ... so I guess that means he gets an A for the day.
  13. Yeah, I think I liked it better than Station Agent. Similar kind of stuff (while at the same time quite different), but I guess I found this one a bit more real.
  14. WOW, a two-strike, bases-loaded squeeze attempt? Thank you Fredi Gonzalez ... and Tommy Hansen for missing it ... and Eric Hinske (runner on 3rd base) for being slow.
  15. Written and directed by Thomas McCarthy, a working actor who, when not acting, wrote and directed 'The Station Agent' and also the Paul Giamatti wrestling movie in current release, 'Win Win'. Like 'TSA', 'The Visitor' also revolves around seemingly mis-matched people getting grouped together by chance and various factors in their lives. Richard Jenkins is a weary and widowed college professor who, when he needs to go to NYC to present a paper at a conference, returns to the apartment he's held onto presumably from the time he was married but hasn't been in for quite some time, only to discover it's been occupied for several months (rented out by a scammer) to a Syrian musician and his Senegalese girlfriend. After his initial impulse to throw the squatters out, he winds up inviting them to stay until they can find a new place. Slowly at first, but increasingly as times goes on, the lives of the lonely widower and the two recent immigrants begin to intertwine.
  16. Nice of the bullpen to finally show up - but it's wasted during the game we get 2-hit. 7 runs given up in the DH - 5 of them after 2 outs and no one on.
  17. Insult to injury - we have to suffer through the Fox crew for this game. I wonder if Buck is out preparing for NFL games? Never too soon you know even though there might not be any until October. 4 solo HRs ... 3 came with 2 outs. I've seen this movie before ... and I didn't like how it ended then either.
  18. Things aren't going bad enough this week so maybe we can try and hit a few more at'em balls this inning. Lowe could have gotten his ass kicked in top 3 (2nd inning too really) but he put his fielders in exactly the right places.

  23. The hot start of Matt Harvey gets him noticed by BA as #7 on their season-opening installment of 'The Hot Sheet' Why He's Here: 2-0, 0.00, 2 GS, 11 IP, 8 H, 0 R, 17 SO, 4 BB The Scoop: The top college righthander to sign out of last year's draft (No. 7 overall), Harvey faced big expectations in his pro debutand through two starts he's more than met them. Joining Keyvious Sampson (No. 2 on this Hot Sheet), Harvey was one of seven minor league pitchers to open the year with a scoreless-inning streak of 11 or more frames. and Jeurys Familia gets an 'honorable mention' on the same list with BA noting that -- Lost in Jeurys Familia's ugly campaign for high Class A St. Lucie last year (6-9, 5.58, 5.5 walks per nine innings) were stretches of effectiveness. The 21-year-old Mets righty got bombed for eight runs in his final start of 2010, but in the seven starts preceding it he went 4-2, 3.38 with 58 strikeouts and 13 walks in 42 2/3 innings. Familia has carried forward that momentum through his first two starts and 13 innings of 2011, in a repeat of the Florida State League. He's kept his walks in check (two) and has kept the ball off the barrel of opponents' bats (13 strikeouts, two hits, one run, 2-to-1 ground-to-flyout ratio). 'Hot Sheet' is like a music top-40 list, it's a weekly look at who's been hot (or not) over the recent span, not an overall ranking of prospects although prospect-y types are the ones who usually get on it as opposed to merely hot weeks from 26 y/o career minor leaguers.
  24. Ceetar wrote: Hughes DL'd with fake injury (no one's going to investigate that "dead arm"? really?) Bernie Williams played for 15 years with a dead arm and never went on the DL for it. Joe Mauer is on the DL for "bi-lateral leg weakness". That can't be a good thing.
  25. Oscar Gamble remains the gold standard of afros but, during the mid-70s, I think Nino Espinosa and Billy Baldwin were the Mets that my then 10-11 year-old sister referred to as "the Mickey Mouse Twins" in honor of their large, black, rotund "ears" that stuck out from under their caps.
