  1. Aaron Heilman: Released by Arizona

  4. WHEW !!!!! That was inches away from being the third come-backer/fuck-up of the night. I had visions of that going wrong even as it was happening.

  6. Fat Elvis has just left the building.
  7. Geez we should be up around 6-zip at this point. We've had at least 7 outs harder than either of their two hits.

You mean Colby and Skippy and Davey and Ryan? They'll be the ones hanging out down by the malt shop before the game. Cards lead the NL (tied w/Cincy anyway) for most runs per game, which tends to make sense since they're tops in BA, OBA & SLG (we're 5th, T-2nd, 2nd, and 7th) Pitching, on the other hand, they're giving up runs at the 5th highest rate, kind of unusual for a StL team. Cards & Reds have a nice little growing animosity going on which is only going to grow if both stay in the division race this year. Heard part of an interview with Cincy pitcher Bronson Arroyo the other day who claimed that while the fans and the media interest in more intense in the NYY/BoSox clash (which he was a part of) the players on those teams tended to respect each other (ARod/Varitek dust-up notwithstanding). In the StL/Cin rivalry, however, he says there's a decent amount of actual dislike. He went on to add that any team managed by LaRussa is bound to generate some intense feelings eventually - and Cincy 2B Brandon Phillips is frequently in the middle of verbal spats.

  10. Capuano - 2.0 Harris - 1.3 Duda - 0.5 Tejada - 0.2
  11. This is going to be an 'avoid last place' game.
  12. Does that mean Mike's a Scientologist now? btw, there's nothing worse than tabloids that refer to the kids of celebs by their first name only - and by extension the idea that that's all they have to do knowing that their readers are so tuned into these mini-celebs that first names are all that's required.
  13. Carrasco - 0.4 Byrdak - 0.2 Harris - 1.5 Murphy - 1.5 Duda - 1.0 Hairston - 0.5 Paulino - 0.9 Pagan - 0.5
  14. Niese - 3.3 Hairston - 3.3 Murphy - 1.5 Tejada - 0.4 Evans - 0.7 Turner - 0.5 Duda - 0.3
  15. Carrasco - 0.4 Beltran - 2.0 Murphy - 1.2 Duda - 0.5
  16. No, I think the difference is pitching. The Mets are actually scoring 0.2 R/G higher than the Phils this season which, when you consider the home park differential and the injuries, is fucking stunning.
  17. Tonight at 7:10 - Make-up game (so apply yours carefully) from rainout on 5/17 which, IIRC, was the day they postponed the game hours in advance on the basis of a gloomy forecast even though it wound up never actually raining during game-time. Nationals did the same thing on the same day. Marlins are 45-49 in last place but just 1.5 games behind the Mets and 1.0 behind Washington After turning in a stunningly bad 5-23 month of June, the Marlins are now 10-4 in July including wins in 8 of their last 9 games. Helps a bit that their last 7 games have come against Houston & Chicago. They're 13-9 under octogenarian manager Jack McKeon. All-purpose guy Emilio Bonafacio has been leading off and is playing 3B these days. Omar Infante (2B), Gaby Sanchez (1B) & Hanley Ramirez fill out the IF. Hanley has recently woken up [.383/.482/.660 in July] from his season-long slumber. Power hitting Mike Stanton (RF), Logan Morrison (LF) and, as of about a week ago, ex-NYM Mike Cameron have been handling the OF John Buck does most of the catching. Reliever Clay Hensley is making his first appearance since June 1st (DL - shoulder) and his first start in almost 3 years (July 24, 2008 for SD) Chris Capuano starts for the Mets. Major DL - only OF Chris Coughlin. Well also that Josh Johnson guy but that doesn't come into play for this one-game series.
  18. Pridie's girlfriend - and I guess now fiance. Softball player who went to college with him. oe: Ooops, looks like he was drafted out of HS so I got the college part wrong, but she is an ex-softballer who met him somewhere. Name is Bianca Cruz
  19. Frankie made his first appearance as a Beer-maker Sat night ... in the [u:17zy80c1]8th[/u:17zy80c1] inning of a tie game. Got the side 1-2-4 with an infield error as the only blemish. He even came out of it with the win when the Brews scored twice in the bottom half then Axford came on for the save although he gave up two hits and a run plus left the tying run on. In the game again today, again in the 8th, this time with a two-run lead. Gave up a leadoff double and later a walk but also got 2 Ks (one of them Tulowitski) and allowed no runs to score. And again Axford came in for the save and again he was shaky giving up a run before getting the final out - Tulowitski K-ing with 2-on. Where was that Tulo when WE played him?
  20. bmfc1 wrote: I thought that Turner would come through. The 2d strike was a lousy call. I'm surprised that Keith didn't howl about it. Duda got screwed on a pitch too that put him in an 0-2 count right before he GiDP'd with the bases loaded and no outs. Not that the game was taken away from us or anything. Too many pitching mistakes mainly (walks and 2-out hits allowed) and too many missed offensive chances early on that just made the comeback that much more improbable. Oh yeah, and Bay too.
  21. Hairston remind anyone a bit of Xavier Nady? Decent though hardly great RH bat that, while nothing special defensively, is versatile enough to make him useful to have around. All of which is packed into a (maybe) 6-foot body that's power-lifter strong and capable of producing second-deck HRs.
  22. bmfc1 wrote: Learned during the Saturday broadcast: both Niese and Pridie got engaged over the all star break. To each other? Hey, it's legal in NYS now (or will be in a few weeks).
  23. 5 or 6 more runs and I'll start to feel good about this one.
