  1. We're snuffing out potential comebacks with great regularity here.
  2. So evidently it's Dickey's turn to put us in a big hole to dig out of in the late innings. Meanwhile on the bat front: - 1st inning, two on/none out - 2nd inning, three on/none out And the only batter who came up in those situations who even got the ball out of the infield was Dickey and his wasn't far enough to do anything about it. Wright = weak grounder which should have been a GiDP Duda - K looking Bay = weak grounder Pagan = K looking Turner = weak grounder Nice showing guys.
  3. "Viable major league SS" also isn't the same as saying "everyday starter". Ruben Tejada is currently a viable major league SS but I'm not sure if he'll ever be an everyday one.
  4. Five days to the signing deadline and no word on Nimmo. Of course there's nothing unusual about that as even the 1st rounders who agree to something early usually don't sign and announce until the last minute because MLB is afraid that if it's an above-slot signing then other players/agents will use that price to drive up their price. Best to keep everyone ignorant (or so the thinking goes). Only 1/3 or so of the 1st rounders have signed and most of them from the back end. Front end HS players generally sign late.
  5. Gwreck wrote: Take I-84 East to I-684 South to the Hutchinson River Parkway South to the Whitestone Bridge. Agreed - or even Tappan Zee to 287 to the Hutch Rte 80 to the GWB in from Jersey is also a major route to YSIII so anything that gets you east of that stadium first before diving south is the better plan. The good news is that the Met game should end about 3PM at which point the Yanqui game will be just two hours old and therefore still in the 4th inning giving you plenty of time to avoid that departing crown no matter what route you take.
  6. Yeah, the specter of Dylan is in the movie on a few occasions, particularly early on. The two were both rivals and, for a time at least, somewhat friendly although tales of Dylan using Ochs as a punching bag to promote himself came out as well; "he [Dylan] was such a prick", I believe was a quote from one of the Ochs-ian commentators. Several of the voices from the Ochs camp also seemed determined to preach to the camera about how it was Phil who was the true committed protest singer of the era as if there exists a need to remind everyone that Dylan was only briefly an in-your-face social issues writer/singer and combat the occasional broad media portraits that still pigeonhole him as such to the detriment of the likes of Ochs and others.
  7. In keeping with the string of recent documentaries for industry-respected but under-appreciated by the public and ultimately self-destructive singer/songwriters: Townes Van Zandt (Be Here to Love Me); Harry Nilsson (Who is Harry Nilsson), comes There But for Fortune, a family-authorized docu on the all-too-short life and career of 1960's socially conscious fokie Phil Ochs. (I think I just set a record for hyphens used in one sentence) Certainly not bad as you did get a sense of what made Phil tick. But I think the family authorized part (produced by his brother and obviously had the cooperation of sister, ex-wife, daughter) might have sanitized things a bit. Also there was heavy concentration on the political part of the era accompanied on-screen with numerous contemporaries (along with some more recent vintage like-minded types) as talking heads reminding us how the Vietnam war was controversial (gee, thanks) and how they were there on the front lines (Chicago in '68 etc.) all of which had the effect of shoving the music to the background - both literally and as part of the story. Call it peace or call it treason call it love or call it reason but I ain't marchin' anymore SVCJC5wIFbA
  8. Tied at 3 in the 8th in Saint Louie KRod in for the Beermakers
  9. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: MFYs lose when Grandy man is picked off! Hah hah! I guess they're figuring that he's the tying run so you need to get him into scoring position (it was 1st & 3rd) but GEEZ you can't get caught off there. That play is in Muffy territory. Angels are having a good second half. They looked turrible when we saw them.
  10. Mariano in to protect the tie in the 9th inning at home ... and serves up a 2R-HR to Abreu
  11. Two straight games of (mostly) clean innings from Izzy (last night = one single but erased with a GiDP) so he faced the minimum and got a 'W' and an 'S' out of it.
  12. Yeah, that's what happens when you're afraid to throw a fastball you kangaroo lover you.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: Bunting DUDA! Y'know, I don't even hate that move. Makes it more likely that the game will be tied ... No GiDP ... Lefty-on-lefty.
  14. Qualls deserves to get smacked around just for having the same name as Jimmy. Oh yeah, I hold grudges.
  15. Always a nice thought. But if it's not him in the post-season rotation it'll be some combination of Garcia and/or Colon and one of these days one or both of those dudes are going to wake up an realize that their combined age is a two-digit number that starts with a 7 and that their combined weight is a three-digit number that starts with a 6 and are going to revert to pumpkins.
  16. And just as I start to bemoan AJ suddenly finding religion he reverts to his normal self by giving up three more two-out runs before the inning is over. 4-1 LAA heading for bottom 6
  17. In his last outing, AJ Burnett was handed a [u:3l9p0hff]13-1 lead[/u:3l9p0hff] by the 3rd inning but couldn't last long enough to even get the win as he was pulled in the 5th having already coughed up 13 hits. So now in this game, with Haren holding the Yanx to one run, the fucker is shutting out the Angels thru 5 ... ooops, a Bobby Abreu HR leading off the 6th ties it up as I'm typing.
  18. Not that he should have caught either of those shots, but Hairston definitely showing his limitations as a defensive outfielder this game. Last night too, there were several balls that a good OFer might have stolen that fell in.
  19. Two semi-interesting series this week - Brews @ Cards for three games Milwaukee comes in with a 3-game lead in the Central and some bad blood coming off the previous series between these two. Pujols hit, Braun thrown at in retaliation, etc. Marcum vs Jackson to start things off. - Angels @ Yanx Probably won't mean much in the end, but the loser of the ALWest basically has the only chance of battling the AL East loser for the WC . Right now the Yanx have a 7-game lead on the Angels so it'll have to be a sweep to put a scare into the Bronx. Unfortunately the Yanx are only going to see one of the Angels' 'Big Three' hurlers as Haren goes tonight but they'll miss both Santana & Weaver. On the other hand the Yanx 'Big One' (Sabathia) won't pitch in this series either.
  20. "Edgy wore shorts on Aug. 9, 2001 because it was freakin' hot." That didn't stop - what was her handle again ... 'Mets Magic'? - from showing up not only long pants but head to toe in black. True to her goth roots that girl was. "Although for some reason Mark Johnson wore a long-sleeve shirt under his jersey." I suspect that was one of those 'wicking' type shirts which were still fairly new then and therefore did look odd in the 104 degree heat. "i'm still not convinced any of you actually exist." I don't.
  21. Also, before we get too anxious to simply hand the job to Nieuwenhuis, his ability to handle CF at the major league level has been questioned by prospect watchers. One of the reasons he's been tabbed as a good though not top-notch prospect all along has been the doubt some have about whether his bat will play as a corner guy or whether he'll wind up as some sort of "tweener" with a CF's bat but a corner OF's glove.
  22. Rockin' Doc wrote: Sweet! Heath Bell helps the Mets along with a wild pitch. Zippity Duda delivers. Great read by runners Turner & Wright on that not-so-far-away WP. Pridie got a bit lucky earlier in the inning advancing on the Pagan K/WP (if he was out that - and he almost was - he deserved a whipping) but the second one was key.
  23. Lucas got the winning hit Du-Da, Du-Da ...
  24. Mike Baxter = #911 Is he really the first new Met since late May?
  25. Exposure to SNY programming makes gold-digging, trophy wife reconsider her lifestyle choices.
