  1. Theo said yesterday (among a ton of other things about no one to blame but ourselves yadda yadda) that this collapse should in no way reflect on Francona. Not that we should take post-season statements like that at full value EVER, but I do wonder how much say Theo has in this.
  2. I'm w/Vic. (NTTAWWT)
  3. I clicked Phils also. I suppose it's easier to do that while not living in south/central Jersey or eastern PA, but the Cards have annoyed me over the years much more so than the Phils. Besides, I don't think they're that good and, for the most part, I want to see the better teams advance.
  4. Def have less rooting interest in this one than in any of the other three so I'd put it in the 'just wanna see a good series' category - although sometimes in the midst of a series I find myself pulling one way or the other without any particular fore-thought going into it. I have only one AL goal anyway.
  5. That's the part that really sucked about this year; Ike was off to a great start. As it was he wound up finishing 3rd on the team in RC/G (7.2*) not far behind Reyes (7.8) & Beltran (7.6) * BB-Ref stats
  6. Although earlier in the month those teams were up by 9-1/2 & 10-1/2 -- a further fall over a longer time. For a smaller fall in a shorter time you can go to the '64 Phillies and their loss of a 6.5 lead over the final 10 All depends on how you want to look at it I suppose. btw, a quick look at Boston's season: 2-10 start ... followed by an [u:3rzkp869]81-42[/u:3rzkp869] stretch ... followed by 7-20
  7. Centerfield wrote: Why was Rivera not pitching the ninth? Because MLB failed to grant Girardi's request for 11 days between the end of the season and the first playoff game.
  8. MFS62 wrote: Nobody is making much of when Wade Boggs sat out the last 4 days of a season and won the batting title. They did at the time. I remember calling him "chicken" (in reference to his eating habits) was a big thing among Yankee fans. On the other hand he also had a sore hamstring and a post-season to rest up for.
  9. Capuano - 2.0 Reyes - 3.2 Tejada - 1.5 Thole - 1.2 Evans - 1.2 Beato - 0.2 Igarashi - 0.2
  10. Schwinden - 1.0 Igarashi - 1.5 Thayer - 0.5 Parnell - 0.5 Reyes - 1.5 Tejada - 2.0 Pridie - 1.0 Wright - 1.0 Evans - 1.2
  11. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Red Sox Nation in STUNNED, DISBELIEF! They believe it. Sox "fans" gave up on the team weeks ago. Very reminiscent of how Mets "fans" turned on the team in 2007. They are similar: Both teams made it hard for their fans to like them. This team may never live this down. Meantime what a run for Tampa. It takes 2 and Tampa was 17-10 in Sept.; 35 of last 55. And they were down nine games when the first game in September was being played and were down 7-0 in the 8th inning of the last game. That's just fucking absurd.
  12. WOW! The Yanx got the prime-time game!?! Whoda thunk it.
  13. Braves in September = 9 - 18 Sawx in September = 7 - 20
  14. So it's the Cards @ Philly and Snakes in Milwaukee On the AL side it's Tampa headed to Texas and the Tiggers in the Bronx. Now we're just awaiting starting times.
  15. There is NOTHING like baseball!!
  16. [bigpurple:158roqlr]HO LEE SHIT[/bigpurple:158roqlr]
  17. This is fucking wild. What seems like seconds ago the Yanx had runners on 1st & 3rd w/no one out while the Sox were an out away from ending the game and at least guaranteeing themselves a tomorrow. But then the Yanx' runner gets caught off 3rd followed by a K and a GO and suddenly the O's tie it up w/2 2-out doubles and now it's the Rays who are a run away from punching their ticket.
  18. And DOWN goes Atlanta!!!
  19. Baltimore-v-Boston drags in April
  20. This triple-action ongoing stuff is great. It also confirms what I was thinking coming into today: these all should have been day games. ... and the Phils go ahead in the 13th
  21. Braves fans have to feel like the Chicago transit cop when he confronts Harrison Ford on the El train in 'The Fugitive': (drawing and aiming his gun) "KIMBREL!"
  22. Kimbrel: 1B, out, BB, BB Their pen has bailed them out all year and now it's about to blow their season with StL winning big. Sac Fly (Utley) and it's a tie game!!!!
  23. If you can post, he can play.
  24. So with the Rays losing big and the Sox on the verge of clinching a spot ... it's raining in Baltimore and the game is being halted. They'll wait all night for this one. 3-2 Boston in the 7th. Cards winning big, Braves hanging on. Looking like some Thursday NL baseball.
  25. Braun is 0-fer-2 He was also the (pre-scheduled) guest on ESPN's PTI* program today. He refused to take the bash-Reyes bait offered him and also claimed he'd be in there tonight for every AB no matter the score or his progress (easy to say, tempting to back out on if circumstances dictate). Came across as a decent guy even if dressed in his usual douche-wear (leather jacket over t-shirt). * PTI led with the Reyes story which, considering that they rarely lead with anything but football or LeBron, represents a big departure for them.
