  1. Puma; NY Post: Honestly, its probably smart right now to give me a day, Davis said. Do I want to come out? No, because I want to get a damn hit. But its a lefty, I havent gotten a hit all year and [Turner] needs to get some at-bats. Its smart managing, I think, right now. What could he have said in place of "Turner"? I heard the transcript and the actual phrase was; 'that red-headed faggot with the hot sister I want to bang' but, for some reason, Puma felt it necessary to clean it up a bit.

  6. So how many Braves fans do you suppose looked at how their schedule began and said: 'Hey check it out, we get to start the season against the Mets & Astros; that's a 5-1 start at the worst!'? Uhh no, you're 0-4 presently. And out in Colorado, Barry Zito tosses his first complete game shut-out in 9 years.

  8. BoSox get 3 in the 9th to notch BV's 1st win of the season. Darvish: 5 earned on 8 hits thru 5.2 but is in line for the win. 8-5 Texas in the 8th
  9. PiggiesTomatoes wrote: That's a real nice win. It's early and they're playing hard and smart. Finding it easy to root for this team. Not sure we deserved to win that game -- got out-hit, so-so starting pitching, we got a couple of generous calls on the bases & at the plate -- but that's why it's nice that we did.
  10. Ozzie flying back to Miami - from the current Marlin road trip in Philly - just to do a press conference tomorrow morning to explain his Castro remarks.
  11. - I didn't mind Ruben bunting - but then I kind of liked him trying the fake bunt thing too - but then I did NOT want to see him bunting w/2 strikes - but then I liked the outcome Yeah, I was conflicted.
  12. Right now, he has to improve just to reach being in a funk. He's not only sub-par, he's sub-Bay!
  13. Time for his Ike-ness to bust out here

  15. Note to Ozzie: Praising Fidel Castro doesn't go over too well in south Florida.
  16. So the Cubs are open as are the Padres & Giants And apparently no one wants either the Nationals (bmfc1?) or the Phils so those will become group projects if they remain unclaimed. 17. The Nats didn't particularly hit much in their opening series. They just got good enough pitching to hang close long enough to wait for Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol to self-destruct in the late innings Wood faced 9 batters and retired 3 of them. He served up 3 hits, 3 walks (in a row), and tossed in a wild pitch for good measure Marmol faced 11 hitters and retired all of 4. His line reads 4 hits and 3 walks Between the two they were on the mound and/or responsible for 7 of the 12 runs the Nats scored over the weekend while logging only 2.1 innings pitched.
  18. No one volunteered for this one so we can make it a group effort if anyone has something to add. CitiField Monday - 7:10 PM Edwin Jackson v Mike Pelfrey 28 y/o and already with his 7th big league club, Jackson went 12-9, 3.79 ERA, 1.44 WHiP in 31 starts/200 IPs while splitting time between the ChiSox & StL Cards in 2011 Tuesday - 7:10 PM Ross Detwiler v Dillon Gee Detwiler, a sixth round pick in 2007 by the Nats, split 2011 between AAA Syracuse and the big club. Beat out John Lannan for the 5th spot in ST. 15 games, 10 starts, 3.00 ERA, 1.26 WHiP, 66 IPs w/Wash Wednesday - 1:10 PM Steven Strasburg v Johan Santana You may have heard of him. 7 IPs, ND, 1 run on 5 hits, 5 Ks & 1 BB vs Cubs in his opening day start
  19. He certainly had a better weekend than a lot of closers and other relievers in MLB this weekend. Lotta pens over the last few days weren't merely leaking oil but were spilling blood all over the field.
  20. I am optimistically wild.
  21. Diaz back in LF for the lefty Niese which means Prado back to 3B. So it's the same as their game 1 set-up except that vet glove-man Jack Wilson gets the start at SS in place of Pastonicky
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Then a passed ball by Thole is retrieved in time for the 2-1 putout with a nice tag and then Mccann flies out to LF. How does a play like that get scored? It wouldn't be a passed ball, because the runner didn't advance successfully. Is it a caught stealing? That's not quite right either. I think it is a caught stealing. Isn't that the same way you'd score it if a runner had broken to 2nd base when a ball trickled away, or via a delayed steal or other non-conventional advance? Or is it just treated as "out advancing" the way you would for a runner trying to go 1st to 3rd? IOW, a simple 2-1 putout with no other specific designation. Definitely no on the PB. HRs old vs new fences: Wright - HR either way Duda - no HR 1st time, yes 2nd time Keith says he (and by 'He' he means some SNY-employed lackey near him) is going to track those all year.
  23. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Sounds fine by me. I don't know what Collins is waiting for though. Better late than never but it's two series too late if you ask me. Why not tomorrow? Prolly cuz a lefty's starting Is anyone else here having huge trouble reading SNY's new ball-strike counter on their ticker? 'Cause I surely am. Yeah. Too many designers don't know when to leave well-enough alone. Sometimes the easiest way to say it's 1-and-2 is to put up a graphic that says 1-2
  24. NYM runs given up so far = 2 MFY runs given up in 1st innings = 6 Also: - Ventura gets his first win as a manager. - BV off to an 0-2 start as Beckett gets blasted (5 HRs) - Marlins finally score some runs and get off the schneid
  25. I didn't see the beginning of the game, but if you're IW-ing somebody in the 1st inning of the 1st game of the season just to set-up a lefty-lefty situation with your supposed ace on the mound then, yes, THAT is over-managing. At least the IWs in the 9th inning were dictated by the situation where only the first run mattered anyway.
