  4. Bochy don't read no "Book" that's for sure.
  5. Time for Ike to break out of his funk. Hasn't gotten a ball out of the IF all game IIRC
  6. I wonder if Angel would have screwed up that play in CF allowing Muffy to take 2nd?
  7. Frank-Frank gets Panda's aggressiveness to work against him. And now the Posey double-switch comes back to bite Bochy
  8. Some interesting machinations there. We have a spent bench heading to extras but more bull-penners left than do the Gints.
  9. In addition to the great catch, Nieuwy got a GREAT jump on that ball. Ummm, is the lefty/righty switch for a light-hitting SS really necessary here Terry? 'Specially since that's like the second hit Rauch has given up this year.
  10. So Tiffany, when your mom named you was she hoping you'd grow up to be a pole-dancer/soft news-bunny or was that just a happy coincidence?
  11. Newhouse makes his first ML hit against a LHP count. One of the cautions against him in the minors was his troubles vs LHPs - although that's something certainly not unusual for young'uns.

  13. TransMonk wrote: Game was timed to start at same time as original: 3:15 I'm guessing it will take about at least an hour longer to complete, though. I'm betting on two hours; this IS a Yanqui game after all. Approx an hour+40 into it and they've just began the bottom of the 5th.
  14. And now add A-Rod the the HR parade. The only thing saving the Sox from a complete thrashing is that these have all been solos. I think the tone was set when the very first batter of the second century of Fenway games was Derek Jeter who promptly popped up ... only to have Pedroia drop the ball. Jeets later scored on a ARod single. Don't know if 'The Standells' were invited to play 'Dirty Water' at any point today. They have played there before so it wouldn't be totally unique if they did. What would be kind of cool is Neil Diamond showing up to do 'Sweet Caroline' live in the 8th inning. Maybe he could sing it through a megaphone.
  15. MLB continuing their tradition of releasing ballots six weeks too early.
  16. Teams playing in name-less and number-less period uniforms (I wonder if the Yanx needed to be bribed to abandon their standard unis?). Ex-Sox, reportedly over 200 of them, walked onto field without PA introductions (on account of none in 1912). First pitch thrown out by several people including Caroline Kennedy repeating the 100 years ago one by her great-grandfather John "Honey-Fitz" Fitzgerald. Game was timed to start at same time as original: 3:15 Now 4-1 Yanx. HRs by Swisher, Chavez x 2, & Papi.
  17. Grimm's stuff looked at another way NEW players introduced for each team during ... 1960s - Mets = 185; Astros = 178 (when obviously ALL players were new) 1970s - Mets = 126; Astros = 118 (minor differences so far) 1980s - Mets = 128; Astros = 118 (still small but surprisingly consistent) 1990s - Mets = 212; Astros = 168 2000s - Mets = 244; Astros = 172 (holy shit those are huge gaps!)
  18. MN: The K Corner -- not to mention its many wonderful derivations -- had its genesis in the upper deck in left field at Shea Stadium when Dwight Gooden was doing for K what Zorro had done for Z. -- Maybe I'm off here, but I remember the first displays of Ks in Anaheim during Nolan's games there. My first impression of seeing them for Dwight was that it was kind of an imitation. It became ours but I don't think it started that way. Same with the rhythmic clapping at two strikes which I first heard during Guidry's hey-day in the Bronx. -- And in the chart comparing the two franchises under the Astros article there's this: Players used Mets = 923 Players used Astros = 762 That's a pretty big disparity, much bigger than I'd have ever thought, and I guess it says something about the different ways of going about things between the two although I'm not sure what.
  19. OK, how 'bout this? * MFS sticks with the Cards * attgig gets the Cubs * Mole takes on the various Philly series remaining * and I'll take the Giants next time around This means everything should be covered barring illness, forgetfulness, vacations, forgetfulness, drunkenness, forgetfulness, kidnappings, posters being lured into cults, etc. PHIOld MoleWASHbmfc1/Edgy DCFLAGWreckATLFrayed KnotCINEdgyDCPITTEdgy DCCHICattgigStLMFS'62HOUMGiMMILWTransMonkLADG-FaFiFSFGFrayed KnotSDPSeo=#008000]COL=#008000]LWFSARZLWFSNYYFMan99BALJCLTORJCLTBRLWFS =#BF0000]At Bat On Deck =#008000]In the Hole
  20. Yeah, considering that Cain has given up 9 hits this year over 24 innings - ** including just 3 in his last 18 ** - I'd say it's a good thing we're missing him. So who are we getting? Friday 7:10 PM: Barry Zito (L) [2 starts, 16 IPs, 3 Runs, 2 earned, 10 Hits, 8 Ks, 1 BB] vs Niese Zito had one great start -- a 4-hit shut-out in Colorado -- and one decent one: 2 earned over 7 innings at home v light-hitting Pitt. Saturday 1:10 PM: Ryan Vogelsong [1 Start, 6.1 IP, 2 Runs, 4 Hits, 7 Ks, 3 BBs] vs Pelfrey Sunday 1:10 PM: Tim Lincecum [3 Starts, 13.2 IP, 16 Runs on 22 Hits, 16 Ks, 4 BBs] vs Gee Monday 7:10 PM: Madison Bumgarner (L) [3 Starts, 17.1 IP, 7 Runs, 18 Hits, 7 Ks, 5 BBs] vs Santana

  23. At 1st is the combo of Brandon Belt and Aubrey Huff Belt, the 6' 5", 24 y/o (on Friday in fact!) Texas native, was last year's hot rookie when called-up in mid-season but he stumbled to a .225/.306/.412 pace with 57 Ks in just 200 PAs Off to a similar start this young season [4 for 19 w/1 2B] Huff also swings from the left side and provides similar occasional pop but with declining stats [6-for-29 so far] since he was a big part of the Giants 2010 WS run. In the last year of a 2-yr deal; looks like $10mil (+ a $2mil buy out) doesn't get you as much as it used to. Also something named Brett Pill [R/R] has snagged two starts this season which, I believe, sets a record for having three first-basemen with 4-letter last names. Now what's on second?
  24. Mainly we need some SFG info.
  25. Piazza's "jump" also coincided with his move from partial seasons to full, and from the pitching-friendly Fla St Lg to the hitter's-haven California League and on to offensive happy zones in San Antonio & Albuquerque And, again, this is not an argument that he didn't, but at the same time it certainly lacks a lot as proof that he did. That Brady Anderson that never as many as 25 HRs except for the year he hit 50 serves to many as proof of his guilt, but applying the same logic tars Maris as some kind of cheater for never managing to hit as many as 40 before or after his season of 61.
