  1. Guys have pitched with partial tears (if that's what it is) but I suppose it's only a matter of time until that becomes a full tear in need of full repair. Pelf might want to take care of things before it ever gets to that point just so it gets him on the road to recovery now that he's going to be entering his FA years. Obviously not good timing for the Mets in general. Really suxx for him though.
  2. * Rubin's either got some real good inside info that no one else seems to have or he's going way out on a limb here. * I don't think Hefner can be an option for at least ten days since he was just sent down. Yeah you can get around that rule in cases of an injury but it seems to me that [u:2chtk2l0]today's move[/u:2chtk2l0] was the one in response to Pelfrey's injury and I don't believe a theoretical swap of Carson for Hefner 3 or 4 days from now would qualify under that loophole. * Club saying that Harvey & Familia are NOT options at this time.
  3. Jason Bay on the 15 day DL with "a non-displaced fracture of a rib on the left side" Zack Lutz has been called up. Zachary Craig Lutz - 6' 1" - 220; BR/TR; 25 y/o (26 in June) from Reading Pennsylvania 5th round draft pick in 2007 out of Alvernia College in Reading. Lutz, for those of you keeping track, [u:1of7xebj]IS[/u:1of7xebj] a legal SCRABBLE word. Zack is not. Also I'm betting he's the first NYM with a Z in both his first and last name. Lee Mazzilli and Chris Canizzaro both had two Zs but not one in each.
  4. Of course nothing is more susceptible to small sample sizes than Pythagorean win projections and the fact remains that a normal expectation of outcomes in bases-loaded situations - say 3 to 6 hits out of the 16 PAs so far rather than a fat goose egg - would most likely have resulted somewhere in the 5 to 10 runs added range which, depending on when they showed up, could easily have turned a loss or three into wins. Instead, we're sitting on 2 RBIs (both via Sac Flies) to show for 16 sacks-drunk PAs. Hell, I'd settle for a couple of walks or HBPs at this point. On the plus side our hurlers have only given up 1 hit in 13 BL ABs. The flip side of that is that the hit was a bases-clearing 2B and we've also walked 3 plus served up a SF in 17 PAs So in all we're down 9 runs to 2
  5. See, even in the minors we can't get bases loaded hits.

  7. Mets have started this season a whopping 0-fer-14 with the bases loaded - and even though it seems like Ike was up for all of those it's actually only 4 And while I know this could certainly be planted in the 'Fun with Small Sample Sizes' thread, this situational ineptness seems to be a trend with this team despite changes in personnel. Ordinarily most players, and therefore most teams, hit better with the bases loaded for several rather obvious reasons. But even ignoring the long GS-less streak, which can more easily be written off as a kind of fluke, this brings to mind recent seasons such as: * the 2009 team which hit .270/.335/.394 overall but then melted to a .220/.250/.348 rate in 160 sacks-loaded ABs * in 2010 where a team that hit .249/.314/.383 turned into one hitting .244/.270/.321 Just subbing in some normalcy in those 14 ABs would probably mean a minimum of six extra runs on the year and could reasonably be twice that many without even getting greedy.

He's stuck in the Dominican Republic, unable to get a Visa to come to the US at this point. When and if he does make it, he's suspended by MLB for six weeks. BB-Ref has understandably changed him over to Juan Oviedo. The odd part is that, even though he's yet to play a game under his real name, they've changed all the records retroactively without any mention that all those stats were gathered under the Leo Nunez moniker. Makes things a bit confusing. Not saying they should treat him as two different people, just thinking that a note up top should be added. If you try to look up Leo Nunez it's like he never existed.
  9. As bad as Ike's going, that one wasn't his fault.
  10. Between Mike Stanton, Leo Nunez, and the Florida Marlins, this team has a lot of players to be named later.
  11. Meh? This game would have to improve by leaps and bounds just to get to where it can get a sniff of Meh!

  13. The answer is, of course, Straw. This Met, a life-long car enthusiast, retired young to go to work for Chrysler Corp. He later worked at Rockwell Int'l and then became a senior exec at several manufacturing companies before going on to teach manufacturing mgmt at the university level.
  14. I'm at the point where I'm just wondering how, not if, their first batter of the inning is going to get on.
  15. Time to put Ike's bat on the side of a milk carton cuz it's missing.

  18. A brief look at the tribulations of Aubrey Huff at 2nd base during Saturday's game along with BP's (not altogether serious) take on how the Giants may have been better off just leaving him where he's more comfortable while leaving 2nd unoccupied.
  19. Assuming yesterday's rain, that was a pain, has blown plainly out towards Spain, the make-up contest will kick off just after 4PM EDT followed by the regularly scheduled game at more or less its regularly scheduled time. Miguel Batista gets the start in the opener.

Honestly, the fact that Ryan even thought about swinging at a pitch that was several feet out of the strike zone should have disqualified him from arguing about it. Not to mention that pausing to argue about it destroyed any chance he may have had to beat the throw.
  21. So while the Mets weren't playing and the Nats weren't playing and the Marlins weren't playing, they all gained ground on the Braves & Phils who both lost.
  22. Pelfrey - 4.3 Byrdak - 0.3 Rauch - 0.2 Murphy - 1.7 Duda - 1.0 Tejada - 1.8 Bay - 0.4 Hairston - 0.3
  23. Niese - 2.5 Ramirez - 0.5 Rauch - 0.4 Byrdak - 0.6 Nieuwenhuis - 2.2 Bay - 1.2 Thole - 1.0 Wright - 0.8
  24. I saw this one a few months back - but at this point I can't remember the ending. I had heard good things about this flick but, I admit it, whatever they were trying to say was way over my head.
