  1. Hey I got a good idea, let's get 3-hit by some chump.
  2. Just have to look at that lineup to know that this Travis Wood guy is a lefty [looking up his stats] His 33 hits in 41 IPs so far this season is a good ratio. His 19 BBs over the same span not so much and hopefully that plays into this lineup's strength. We faced him once when he was with Cincy in 2010 - got him for 5 runs (3 earned) over 4-2/3. Wright had a single and triple in 3 ABs On the other hand, he stroked an RBI triple off Pelfrey (the 2nd of back-to-back 3Bs) as part of a 6-run 5th and the Reds went on to win the game. Wood though got rocked in the bottom of the 5th and didn't last the inning so didn't get the win.

  5. Yes, I am aware of other stats, just not ones that are going to tell me what you're claiming they're going to tell me. Specifically I find that Rottino's ML stats are so sparse (being a career minor leaguer and all with ~250 career ML ABs and 32 this season prior to last night) that I can go back to the minor league portion of each player's career at which point I find that Turner had a higher BA (already mentioned) with virtually identical walk AND IsoP rates. Either way, nothing I see "clearly" shows me much of anything - particularly for a 4 AB stand. And look, I would have had no problem if Terry had started Vinny at 1B last night, my point is that I just don't see, given that Ike was out and a tough LHP on the mound, the clamor over starting Turner when, OMG, Vinny Rottino was available.
  6. So this Cubs staff contains Wood but it's not Kerry; a Wells but it's neither Kip nor David; a Camp but it's not Rick; a Maine but it's not John; and a Russell but it's not Kurt, Ken, Crowe, Brand, Bertrand, Bill, Leon, or even (and it's too bad because she'd look great in a uniform) Kerri. No wonder I don't know this team!
  7. Edgy DC wrote: I don't think his 0-4 and misplay were a "given." ... I just think they were clearly more likely than they would have been with Rottino in the lineup. The career .250 ML/.309 ml hitting 27 y.o was "clearly more likely" to hang up an oh-fer than the 32 y/o .188 ML/.295 ml guy? I'm not seeing that.
  8. Be nice if Vinny survives as a Met through the DFA process and lives to come back another day, but I sense some danger of overselling what his 6 hits in 32 ABs provided to the team (even if three of those hits were for XBs and he tossed in some walks) a batting rate which is pretty much in line if not somewhat exceeding his ML avgs elsewhere (scant though they may be). Yes Turner's 0-4 and slight misplay at 1st (the error was Dickey's) didn't help matters, but let's not act as if those were a given before the night started and were something sure to be topped by Rottino.
  9. bump
  10. I am just really fucking sick of losing to these schmucks by one run all the time (or almost all the time: five losses this year of 8, 2, 1, 1, 1). Too many singles tonight and just one knuckler that didn't knuckle to Swish-face.
  11. Sooner or later we're going to have to get to one of their relievers.
  12. Out-hitting the Yanx 11-7 plus we have several walks, a balk, a bushel of SBs, and 3 errors in our favor ... but the hits are all singles so we're losing.

  14. The idiot savants strike again.
  15. Wrong ballpark Justin. That's 17 rows deep in that other place.

  18. Rottino stays in the game replacing Hairston defensively rather than Nieuwy. Hope that doesn't come back to bite us. Obviously the reason is because it allows you to put the pitcher further down the batting order - but, hell, Terry never lets a reliever go more than one inning anyway.

  20. Now here comes the stall tactic at the mound that someone was complaining about in a different thread.

Finished with 9 hits plus 2 walks and three errors behind him over 5-2/3. The fat fuck was lucky to get away with just 4 runs (plus the two sitting out there)

Unfortunately, 'tying run to the plate' comments only work for teams that actually hit HRs The Yanx, on the other hand, have now used HRs to score 24 of their 28 runs against us this year.
