  1. Terry NOT over-playing the lefty/righty thing this inning (IMHO of course). All you want here is to get to Bobby P with as big a lead as possible.
  2. I was thinking just before Satin's double that, if I were the Nats, I would have walked him to get to Buck with 1st base open. But, then again, I would walk Miguel Cairo right now to get to Buck and I wouldn't care who was on.
  3. WOW!! Wasn't expecting that on a 3-0 count.
  4. Early pen day for the Nats. Looks like it'll be Ross Ohlendorf (how often has a Ross relieved a Ross?). He's been good for them in limited opportunities (1 start, 1 relief opp)
  5. In between Lefties Detwiler (Fri) and Gio Gonzalez (Sun) we'll be seeing AA call-up Taylor Jordan who, modern naming trends being what they are, almost certainly had a classmate named Jordan Taylor at some point in his life. He's a RHP who's been pitching really well in Harrisburg lately. He replaces FA bomb Dan Haren who conveniently discovered an injury following the latest of his string of poor starts.
  6. Nats in for three games. The presumed WS representative for the NL is not only sitting at .500 at the moment but have not been more than 2 games +/- .500 for about a month and a half now. It's easy to say that they're too good to stay here all year but at some point you start to think that they've been there so long that there's a good chance that they are what their record say they are. Of course they've been missing some parts. Harper has been out for about a month now and, while he's close, will likely NOT be back for this weekend. Plus we'll miss both their most heralded starter in Strasburg and their best starter in Zimmermannnn 1B - Adam LaRoche 2B - Anthony Rendon - their 2012 1st round pick is filling in for the now Wally Pipp-ed Danny Espinosa and hitting well (.337/.384/.462). Originally a 3rd baseman, his fielding is suspect as he gets the hang of a new position. SS - Ian Desmond - Low OBP, but now the team's leading HR hitter 3B - Ryan Zimmerman CF - Denard Span - plays a good CF but hasn't quite been the dynamic leadoff hitter they hoped for (.256/.308/.341) RF - Jayson Werth LF - ??? A combination of Steve Lombardozzi, (Mary) Tyler Moore, Roger Bernadina, and something called Jeff Kobernus C - Wilson Ramos hurt again. Kurt Suzuki and Jhonathan Solano man the tools

  8. The NL East was a collective 30 games under .500 for the 1973 season (20 of that courtesy of the Phils). Put another way, they played the west to a 201-231 (.465) record - the equivalent of the east being a 75.5 win team vs the west's 86.5 It means that the east was down that year although it was hardly the most lopsided year ever.
  9. But, once again, leaving him in Bingo or Vegas until he gets his shit back together (or until Q falls apart) is NOT the same thing as giving up on him.
  10. dWar = Dionne Warwick's street name from back in her banger days.
  11. Are you sure that's Jim Carroll? I thought it might be David Bowie ... or Tilda Swinton.
  12. If Tejada wants a fresh start he should be made to show that he's earned a fresh start. That's what Terry (and, by extension, Sandy) is saying and I agree with him/them. If Tejada had played well enough over the first two months of the season this may not be an issue, but he didn't so it is.

Ruben is younger and most likely (hopefully anyway) has a better future but, unless and until Q falters and/or Ruben is tearing it up in Bingo or Vegas, I want to go with the guy making the better contribution at the ML level. That's not the same thing as saying you're betting on him over the next three years, nor will the team lose control of Tejada if he plays the next month or three in either Bingo or Vegas.

He can probably do that in a handful of rehab games anyway. Given 200 ML ABs Tejada couldn't prove he can out-play what Quintanilla is currently giving the team, what makes you think he can so easily do so in a handful of Binghamton games? Not that either guy is going to the ASG, but Q's .242/.290/.363 over 91 ABs beats Ruben's .209/.267/.262 over 187
  15. Just three guys in double figures - that's the part I was curious about.
  16. Marcum - 4.4 Parnell - 0.8 Young - 2.4 Wright - 0.3 Quintanilla - 0.3 Satin - 0.8 Brown - 1.0
  17. Torres - 0.9 Edgin - 0.5 Wright - 1.8 Brown - 1.8 Young - 1.5 Satin - 1.0 Byrd - 0.5
  18. Can we* get a count of number of Starts at 3B by those on the above list since Sugar's debut? * and when I see "we" I mean done by someone other than me
  19. "Do people really ride fixed gear no brake bikes?" -- Apparently city riding hipsters do. "Does fixed gear mean what it sounds like it means?" -- One gear, no shifters cuz there's nothing to shift. You wanna go faster? ... peddle harder. Not many hills in Manhattan anyway, and besides, needing a low gear for climbing means you're a sissy. " What is the significance of a steel frame?" -- Heavier but tougher/stronger/more able to take a beating than other choices. "Why would the main character like all these things?" -- Street cred. And bikes like that would be cheaper, with fewer things to go wrong on them, less likely to be stolen.
  20. Hefner - 3.4 Hawkins - 0.8 Rice - 0.3 Parnell - 0.7 Byrd - 4.2 Murphy - 0.6

Immediately? - Lyon/Hawkins (or is Frank-Frank even going to make it back this season?) Eventually? - Someone from the Mejia/Familia/Montero/Leathersich family, or quite possibly someone we don't know yet. The long answer is that I wouldn't view a NYM trade of Parnell as a signal that they're intent on buying/trading for a "proven" closer from out on the open market. Rather I think the idea that is this season can certainly survive without a "real" closer for the remainder while figuring that there'll be various options to choose from next March. So if Parnell can net you a promising OFer from, say someone in Detroit's situation (they just re-released Jose Valverde) or Boston's (verious injuries) of needing a closer while contending, then it's worth a shot. And if not, like JCL says, simply extend the middle finger.

And I had declared coming into this week that this 'two in Chicago/One in Denver' was, in effect, a "series" and therefore this serves as the rubber game and our attempt to win three series in a row.
  23. I could see you as someone being disappointed in that Mays kid after his 1-for-26 start.
