  1. So it's the 3rd inning of a lazy Sunday afternoon and no one has started an IGT yet. That it's already 4-0 could be seen as either caused by or the effect of no IGT. Oh yeah, and we're getting no hit through 3, after getting, what, four hits yesterday, and 1 run in the nightcap of Friday ... and this is all against the supposed soft side of the Nats pitching staff. That this all is happening on the heels of the 11-0 pasting during the first game on Friday tells you all you need to know about momentum.
  2. I don't believe that one person, particularly a part-timer, can so poison a clubhouse to where his presence overwhelms whatever he adds on the field (if he doesn't add anything ON the field then that's another subject). And what does punishing by "snubbing" him gain you? Is denying him that couple weeks at the end of the year really going to change him entirely? I tend to doubt it - so if there's room for him and a role for him then bring him up. If he is indeed so poisonous as to be more trouble than he's worth then getting rid of him is the answer, but that also means his radioactivity isn't a secret so don't expect much back.
  3. The decision not to resume the game after the rain rests with the individual affiliates not the network. That gives those without a local team in the fight an excuse to drop out when a game runs over the allotted time in favor of already-paid-for reruns or for local news which is a big money maker for local stations.
  4. Any reason for the 3PM start? Doesn't matter to me, but the fact that it's at 3PM means it screws up the TV rights for all games that are not on FOX as both the 1 PM local starts and 4 PM local starts get screwed by being in FOX's exclusivity window. The Yanx, for instance, aren't on TV at all today (heh, heh) plus several others. Looking now at the TV grid on my cable system I see that FOX has human cockfighting on their docket for tonight so maybe they were afraid that a 4 PM start that goes extra innings ran the risk of cutting into that all important property as told MLB they wanted the games moved up.
  5. GM Ruben Amaro says he [u:1mlgfnba]will not[/u:1mlgfnba] rule out dealing Cliff Lee, Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz, or Michael Young - although Lee is now scratched from his next start due to neck soreness.
  6. Harvey - 5.5 Satin - 1.0 Buck - 1.0 Murphy - 0.5 Brown - 0.5

  8. And they finally end it. Rays go into 1st because as Sox were shut-out by Baltimore earlier.
  9. Now 10-6 in da Bronx but with two outs after Soriano bounced into a force play. Joe Maddon thought he was going to have an easy close-out but is now on his fourth pitcher of the inning.
  10. Elsewhere: - Braves beat Wainright and the Cards - Phils lost to Detroit - that's 4-13 for Hamels - Marlins shut out the Pirates So we gain a half-game on the Phils, lose a half to Miami & Atlanta, and stay neutral with the Nats who we could have caught if we took the 2nd game.
  11. O-o-T Scoreboard, aka - CAN THE RAYS JUST HURRY UP AND CLOSE OUT THIS FUCKIN' GAME?!!?!? - Rays jumped all over Sabathia tonight and led like 6-0 and later 10-1. Well now it's 10-5 and the bases are loaded in the bottom of the 9th and they still have two outs to get. Yanx are just dinking and dunking them to death but they're one batter from getting the tying run to the plate. Soriano at the plate. Rays will take over 1st place if they win it but they're trying hard not to.
  12. vtmet wrote: Does anyone know details of when he's made his errors? it seems like he was playing relatively decent 2B defense until they put him at 1st for a few games, and then has made a plethora of errors since returning to 2nd (but I have no breakdown of his defensive breakdowns)... I think you're searching for a pattern which isn't there. Besides, he started a string of six games at 1B about six or seven weeks ago. If the brief trial at a different position back then were in fact causing his errors ever since and up to now then he'd be essentially useless as a defensive player.
  13. We have lost far too many games via walk-offs this year.
  14. And once again the outs come in the wrong order. Flip the pop-out and the fly=out and we're in the lead here.
  15. Clippard is one of these relievers that really slams the brakes on a game pacing-wise; lots of pitches and lots of time between each.
  16. Zvon wrote: Ha! Zimmerman sucks. He sucked earlier but I let him slide. He has the rep of a good fielder (which he once was) but the statute of limitations ran out on that one years ago. Nats fans act as if he's still good but his glove is shaky and his arm has never recovered from shoulder problems.
  17. Nationals advertising upcoming post-game shows by Gavin DeGraw and Sammy Hagar (not on the same night).
  18. Murphy - 4.2 Mejia - 3.7 Lagares - 2.1
  19. Zvon wrote: Damn. Bad collision between Carrot Top and Brown on a pop up. Red took the worst of it, and held onto the ball. That was some nasty brown on red violence.
  20. Just goes to show you how wrong stats are ... except when they're right of course.
  21. Ross Ohlendorf is the night cap's mound opponent -- he's the brainy right-hander from Princeton who was smart enough to get away from the Yanx a few years ago. Recently called up by the Nats after spending much of his career with Pittsburgh, 2012 in Sandy Eggo, and then the first half of this year in AAA Syracuse, he's made 1 start and 7 relief appearances for Washington giving up just 6 runs over 27 innings (2.03 ERA, 0.94 WHiP). He was last seen bailing out the Nats during Zimmermannn's last start when he got even more torched than today (pulled in the 2nd). Ohlendorf in that game threw six innings of relief work giving up two runs. He's started most of this year in the minors and most of his career so he shouldn't be on a short leash despite being mostly the long man since his call-up.
  22. Drew Storen (currently the one on the mound getting beaten to a bloody pulp) has been one of the biggest culprits in the recent Nats pen-problems. There's even been talk about him being demoted back to the minors; tough medicine for last year's closer and the guy drafted four picks after Wheeler four years ago.
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Five ribbies for Muffy! After fouling off like 75 pitches. And that long AB will cost the Nats another reliever as Mattheus (just off the DL after, earlier in the season, adding to the stat of lockers being undefeated against knuckles) can't finish up the inning.
  24. Ceetar wrote: Feel like Nieuwenhuis is getting short shrift. He's not exactly earning a longer shrift.
  25. Look at Rice taking care of the RHBs (3 outs from 2 batters) after the leadoff single to the lefty
