  3. Still too early to know how consistent Mauricio is going to be with the bat ... but he is a dangerous hitter from the left side.
  4. Not only are the 1-2-3-4 hitters 0-fer-12 tonight but there hasn't been a single decent piece of contact among them: 8 Ground Outs, 3 Ks, 1 Foul Out. Not a single ball out of the infield though at least one of the GPs scored a run (tho another led to an out at home so maybe those cancel each other out).
  5. The Braves, who got swept by the Rangers this weekend and are now a stunning 16 games below .500 (44 - 60), traded with StL for starter Eric Fedde today with the always popular 'PtbNL + cash' headed in the direction of StL. And they're trading for pitching because they put RH Grant Holmes on the IL which means that the team's season opening five-man rotation are now ALL on the IL: Chris Sale (60 Day IL), Reynaldo Lopez (60), Spencer Schwellenbach (60), AJ Smith-Schawver (60), and now Holmes on the 15-Day IL (at least for now). They do still have Spencer Strider active although he didn't debut until Game #18 of the season this year due to injuries from last year.
  6. I hadn't heard of that one ... and now that I know I wish that I didn't. At this point in the band's existence the drummers are going to be dying of natural causes in Florida retirement homes.
  7. Yanx got to Wheeler for four runs in the 2nd (mainly cuz Wheels started the inning: 1B - HBP - HBP) then held on for a 4-3 win to salvage the final game of the three-game set. Sio, if nothing else, the upside to a Yanqui win is that we're guaranteed to end the night still in 1st place. The A's plastered the Astros 5-2, 15-3, 5-1, and (just now) 7-0 for a four game sweep of the AL West leaders. It won't do ATH (apparently their official name right now) a lot of good as the sweep brought them from 19 to 15 G out of 1st, but I bet the Mariners enjoyed those results as they won two of three from LAA and are looking to go 3-of-4 this afternoon (scoreless in 5th). If they win their weekend will see them go from 6.0 G back to just 3.0 Brewers just walked off the Marlins to sweep that series 3 - 0. But the Cubs win minutes later so those two will remain in a dead heat atop the NLC going into their three-game series starting tomorrow in Milwaukee
  8. Clase came in vs the Royals today with a one run lead and the ghost runner on 2nd in bottom 10 and went: Walk, Pick-off (2nd), Walk, 3R game-losing HR (Jonathan India) So 3 runs (2 earned) in 1/3 of an inning and retired none of the three batters he faced. Just sayin'
  9. Aaron Judge to the IL due to an elbow strain he got while making a throw. The team claims it is Not going to require UCL surgery but that he'll likely to need to DH for a time when he returns. Whither Giancarlo? Yanx held the Phils to a mere 9 runs this afternoon [4 from Stroman in 3.2 IP, then 5 more from the pen] so an improvement from yesterday. But 9-3 Philly is your final so still 1/2 G ahead.
  10. Every once in a while I check in to see how Hollywood's march towards putting out absolutely no original material at all is progressing. So currently in theaters, or soon to be, are: - SUPERMAN: no ordinal or Roman numerals here so I don't know how you differentiate this one from the (who knows how many) other iterations of this near 100 year old idea - JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH: I have trouble remembering whether it's been 66 million years since dinosaurs went extinct or if that's just how long the first of this franchise was released. - I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER: This is at least the third one here. I know this because I remember that the first sequel was called I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, a flick which picked up the same story a year later. Which means that it was no longer 'Last Summer' that the incident on which the whole thing was based occurred so the proper title should have been I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID THE SUMMER BEFORE THIS MOST RECENT ONE ... but I guess they figured that was a bit unwieldy for movie marquees and that the audience, based on the fact that they paid their way into this movie, was too dumb to know the difference.. - SMURFS: I have no clue if this is an ongoing thing or not. But I'm guessing 'Yes' so am including it here - 28 YEARS LATER: So is 28 YEARS LATER a sequel to a movie that came out 28 years earlier? I think it is. - M3GAN 2.0: Fill me in here, is this the sequel or the prequel to M2GAN 3.0 ? - THE NAKED GUN: Apparently someone has decided that Liam Neeson is the new Leslie Nielson. 'Hey, same initials ... it's Gotta Work!!' But just wait until Trump finds out that this is the second non-American actor playing this role. There will be hell to pay! - THE FANTASTIC FOUR: This is either a movie about four fantastic people or it's the third sequel to a movie called THE FANTASTIC - NOBODY 2: NOBODY was a Bob Odenkirk vehicle from a couple years ago trying to cash in on his fame as Saul Goodman. But, as far as I know, nobody saw NOBODY so it's likely that nobody will see NOBODY 2 too. - FREAKIER FRIDAY: Because there's no shortage to the number of people clamoring to see what kind of actress Lindsey Lohan turned into as an adult. - HAPPY GILMORE 2: Judging by the buzz among those populating sports talk radio stations, this one will play to packed houses for months. I'm sure there are several (dozen) I've missed, and by that I mean missed out on putting in this list. As far as missing the movies themselves I plan on missing all of them.
  11. I think there's at least a 50/50 shot that those two names rhyme.
  12. =metirish post_id=199121 time=1753496348 user_id=72] What channel is the game on ?
  13. =whippoorwill post_id=198901 time=1753291594 user_id=79] I saw more plays at the plate in last night's Pirates game than I have in a few years! Very exciting

  15. Lefty Specialist wrote: Manaea throws too many pitches: strikeouts are nice, but 3-2 counts aren't. Funny, I was thinking the same thing during Peterson's last start. He went full on six of 23 Cincy batters faced and had his share of ABs end on 3-1 and 2-2 counts as well. 82 pitches thru 5 (Manaea) is high but but not ridiculously so (you'd like to see more like 75) and mainly it was the 2nd inning [2 pitches, 7, 4, 3, 5, 4 = 25] when he walked two and escaped by getting the 3rd out with a bases loaded grounder to SS. He was <15 pitches in three of the other four innings. What I think is obvious is that this org, at least for now, is being very conservative concerning pitch counts across the board so that anyone straying near or above the 90 mark is likely to get the hook (Manaea even lower because second game back from IL) and we'll get to watch Mendy take his chances with the nightly edition of bullpen roulette.
  16. The last ballplayer I remember with that issue was Pittsburgh (and LAD, HOU, NYY) pitcher Rick Rhoden. His, IIRC, was more severe to the point where it affected his gait in a noticeable way. Might have had something of a club foot too though don't quote me on that. Edwin's, for all we know, may be barely noticeable and 'fixed' by a small adjustment in set-up or stride. Despite Rhoden's "deformity" OTOH, he lasted 16 seasons in MLB, won 151 games, 3 Silver Sluggers, and once placed 5th in the CY award. He also totally dominated the celebrity golf tour after his retirement that catered to athletes, actors and other celebs. Some of the participants would refer to it as 'The Rick Rhoden Tour' on account of how everyone else was usually playing for second place. oe: [from Wiki] Rhoden overcame a childhood bone disease, osteomyelitis, and he wore a brace until age 12. I think that should, but doesn't, read 'leg brace' oe take two: He has qualified for the U.S. Senior Open ... and also played a number of Champions Tour events and has three career top 10 finishes: T-5 in the 2003 Allianz Championship, T-6 in the 2006 3M Championship, and T-8 in the 2005 Constellation Energy Classic. His career earnings on the Champions Tour exceed $250,000. iow, he was doing more than merely holding his own against, not just other current and ex-athletes, but also against guys his own age who were professional golfers during the time his first athletic career was going on.
  17. Pirates wound up sweeping the Tigers who have suddenly lost 9 of their last 10, though still lead the AL Central by 8 G over a recently hot Cleveland team. In Philly, the Red Sox erased 0-5 hole by putting up 6 in the 6th and lead 6-5 as the Phils bat in bottom 7 Oh, and Aaron Boone is all red in the face because the HP ump dared to call strikes again NYY batters and so he'll watch the rest of the game via the clubhouse TV 6 - 4 Jays, top 7. Winner of tonight's game takes the series 2-1. TOR starter Chris Bassit is asking for one more inning.
  18. And Trout will have to get his 1,000th career RBI somewhere else (his HR earlier in the game was #999).
  19. I saw an article the other day saying how interim LAA manager Ray Montgomery (who just got run over those B/S calls) is a MLBS ... or at least grew up as one. btw, it's a shame that Ron Washington is still listed as 'Manager' for the team throughout his absence and so Montgomery (like seemingly all interims in all sports) has neither these Angels' wins or losses go on his record.
