Current thinking has it being at least July before the Yanx see Cee Cee "No sooner than six weeks from now" sez Cashman (June 30 if taken literally) but even with the best case scenario of early July essentially means post-ASB for a rest and recoop type of injury.

  4. Ceetar wrote: ... But the results with Byrd mean nothing for Abreu, and starting Abreu 3 times in 6 games while sitting Lagares 4/5 is illogical. Abreu has started 5 games total with the Mets: on 4/24, 4/26, 5/5, 5/12, & 5/16. There's no math in the world that translates into "3 times in 6 games" anywhere there. Thrice in 11 games is the best we can do. Add in the fact that the 4/24 & 4/26 were while Lagares was on the DL, and the 5/12 was as a DH and we're down to twice in 24 games that Abreu has started instead of Lagares and only once for a full game (Friday night). As the old saying goes, you may be entitled to your own opinion but you're not entitled to your own facts.
  5. Ceetar wrote: But it's silly to nitpick Collins' words because he just spouts whatever he feels like saying. Actions speak louder and all the actions seem to suggest Collins doesn't realize Lagares is his best outfielder. The Mets have played 43 games to date and Lagares has played in every one he's been available for (missed 13 while on the DL), starting 25 of those 30 and appearing later in the other 5. Argue if you want that skipping the wonderfulness that is Luan Lagares in even one game is some sort of capital offense, but let's not twist this into a Terry=clueless angle, particularly as he needs to juggle 4 OFers into 3 spots. After years of not having enough real outfielders to fill the three spots, I'm happy with the current excess if you want to call it that.
  6. I think his biggest problem is the number of repetitions he lacked because of all the missed games during the latter part of 2012 and the front half of 2013. Getting promoted off of that stretch (more because of need than his having nothing left to learn) is kind of like starting college after missing big chunks of your Junior & Senior years of HS, it can be done but it's not going to be easy. And now this injury, even if it's only a short one, doesn't help matters any.
  7. "You know, it's not like I sat him for seven days. I sat him for two days, for cripes sake." -- Well, four days out of five if we want to be accurate about it Terry, but I get his point. That's still not like Lagares was stuffed in a dungeon with the key thrown away.
  8. I see no harm in trying this; it's not like a combo of Recker & Centeno are likely to hit a lot worse. Whether d'Arnaud comes back in a week or in three weeks probably won't make a lot of difference in the short run and could pay off down the road.
  9. Centeno's dash was poorly timed and poorly thought out. The run was scoring anyway and the throw went towards 3rd and not home. There was simply little upside in trying to take that extra base. And even if there were he was out by about 18 feet. And that's at least twice that Muffy's been caught, not just at 3rd base, but straying off 3rd base after already reaching it. And again, where was HE going ... home from 2nd on an infield grounder? Bad Muffy, bad.
  10. Maybe he took some (internal) heat for his moon-walking act after the strikeout of Gardner last week then, following his save, got caught between wanting to celebrate and being conscious of trying to tone it down. Maybe he should display all that hair by adopting the end-of-the-round tradition of golfers who always make a point of removing their hats prior to shaking hands with their partners.
  11. Farnsworth enters 8th w/3 run lead: Walk Double Sac Fly Pop Out Walk RBI-Single -- Yanked ... relief gets the first guy to foul out w/runners on 1st & 2nd, thus bailing Farnie's stats out of more ugliness
  12. Yup! Good jump, good route, good tracking, and then finally the athleticism kicks in at the end.
  13. Good job Mejia. Got the 'Cookie' save (3 run lead) for his first one as official closer dude, but, after the leadoff single, he never allowed the tying run to get to the plate which is a big deal when dealing w/the Nats who have potential HRs from just about everyone in their lineup.
  14. Farnsworth picked up by Houston and will be in uniform for Saturday's game. So it looks like he'll have to wait until the final series of the season to get his revenge.
  15. Torres - 1.0 Edgin - 0.5 EYoung - 1.0 Abreu - 1.0 Recker - 1.0 Campbell - 1.0 Murphy - 0.5 Duda - 0.5
  16. The bigger problem was the suck-ass way they started the game. Take away those fumbles in the opening frame and the game was pretty much even the rest of the way.
  17. I hate 6' 5" right fielders!
  18. We could try drinking more but I don't think that's gonna help in the morning either.
  19. The good news is that we kept the strike-outs in single digits tonight The bad news is just about everything else.
  20. Edgy MD wrote: Abreu is a modest revelation, isn't he? Yeah, but why wasn't Lagares pr-ing for him there? On a gapper that potential run was important and don't you want him for defense? I guess Terry is saving him for PH duty in the 9th: Lagares & Flores for Tejada & the pitchers slot.
  21. Campbell should get a start (or two) at 3B sometime this weekend. The incumbent there seems like he needs a break.
  22. Nats wisely pitch around Murphy to get to Wright and thus get out of the inning without further damage.
  23. Third straight series where slow, fat guys are scoring from 1st on hits against us. And, let's face it, the odds of this team scoring 5 runs [u:2ileuivg]this weekend[/u:2ileuivg] are probably less than 50/50
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Twitter is on fire with this lineup shit. Fans mad at Terry, and, by extension at the media guys who pretty much all seem to like Terry. Terry's explanation that Lagares is slumping only adding fuel to the fire. It was a big topic on FAN during my hour or two of not-sleeping early this AM. And not that I don't think it's a legit topic for discussion, but some fans have fallen way too in love with Juan Lagares. I mean, even if you want to compare him to Willie Mays defensively, I think we're got a ways to go before we start down the same road on the offensive side too.

And the fact that it's used in every stadium just shows that it's a corporate-type decision from somewhere at the league level who probably focus-grouped themselves and pronounced it to be a BRILLIANT addition to ballparks everywhere, and if you run every inning instead of every other one then it's twice as good!!!!!!
