  1. The odds of us winning this game are hovering at around 2-3%
  2. With all due respect Jason Motte, I'd really love to see this heat make your beard spontaneously combust on the mound.
  3. Through 8, only 80-some pitches, retired 13 of the last 14 ... let him stay in!!!!!

Murph took a decent chance but got thrown out on a nice play/throw by Jay in CF. Granderson's was just a straight steal attempt (would have helped had CYoung not swung through another pitch) and Wright was safe but then bounced off the base with his slide. Well, I'm whistling Wright. That was one where, even though it never went to replay, the existence of the replay rule likely caused the out call because it certainly would have been reversed upon review had the Cards challenged it. David just slid a bit late and hit the bag kind of hard and awkwardly then couldn't do the right-foot/left-foot switch quickly enough.
  6. People like to attend baseball games?

  9. Three outs at 2B in half-a-game It's not helping matters when we only require the opposing staff to only retire 20-something hitters per game instead of the full 27
  10. Gee & Mejia still hitless among NYM pitchers with at least double digits ABs (14 & 16)
  11. Leadoff double for Colon. Now all we need is three or four more hits this inning to get him in.
  12. Five complete innings in under an hour and a quarter ... is that even allowed these days?
  13. Doesn't help that we're about 2-for-8 on hard-hit balls so far today. Nor does the fact that we've turned two of the four base-runners they have managed to get back into outs.
  14. Murphy owes us beer for tonight's game. Not to read too deeply into these things but Alderson evidently was asked in one of those season-ticket-holder chats as to his attitude on trading Muffy and he was sorta noncomittal, at least it's how it read. I know you ca't give assurances but here's the magic quote: "Look, we have a real appreciation for Dan Murphy. Murphy is somebody who is an offensive player, who has really done some things this year to improve himself as an offensive player. His on-base percentage is much higher than it has been in recent years. He goes the other way. So there's no question in terms of this ballpark, he's been a plus. You know, we talk about all the time: We're looking for players that are willing to play in New York or can play in New York. He hits in New York. He hits in this ballpark. ..." He went on to say we shouldn't consider what we hear on twitter to be reliable. I have no idea what Muffy would bring back in a deal not who would want him, but he's not without value, will be getting more expensive next year, and could be replaced in the lineup everyday by Flores. Yeah, I read all that the other day. My first thought was that back in the old MOFO days there'd be screaming about the GM just giving a bunch of non answers, as if the only thing they'd accept in true SHOW US THE PLAN!!!! style is for Sandy to give an exact date and time on when Murphy was to be traded and what we'll get in return. I personally think he's actually been OK defensively this year, or at least certainly hasn't hurt them with the glove as much as he's helped with the stick. It's just that last night's game featured him K-ing on a bad pitch w/2 on (just as the Cards got 2-out hit after 2-out hit) and then followed that up with the double error inning (even though I'm sure he was only charge with one). Mainly it suxx with him not showing up on the one day recently when Wright did - but that's pretty much been the story of this season.

I look it as using the All-Star Game voting as an opportunity to showcase their stars. Sure, but in order to use the ASG as the place for to showcase your stars you first have to get them there, and today's accepted way of getting them there is via encouraging your fans to stuff the box.
  16. Yeah, the on-line voting thing is, of course, all connected to web-hits and the on-line ad dollars they hope to generate, and all that money goes into the league coffers so is most likely league directed. So I suppose if league policy is to steer teams towards whoring for as many votes as possible anyway then give credit to the Brewers for at least coming up with a novel approach to it. I would have preferred the whole cycle not started in the first place, but in truth they're probably not coming up with worse results than they were before they let this horse out of the barn, and being brazenly open about it is arguably better than the days when more subtle nudges to vote the home ticket were going on as teams were pretending they weren't.
  17. The way this skewers the typical lame political ad was kind of funny. That teams feel it necessary to openly ask fans to ballot box stuff is kind of sad.
  18. Murphy owes us beer for tonight's game.
  19. I believe the Cardinals have more two-out RBIs in this game than the Mets have this season.
  20. Oh and what a shock, another fuckin' two out RBI hit!!
  21. On the good side, that little bit of clownery by Muffy & Duda helped to get rid of Wacha. On the other hand we can't hit their bullpen either.
  22. Cards, with no margin for error, get two consecutive two-out, run-scoring hits Mets wind up with Five ABs with a runner or runners in scoring position in a six-batter span and wind up with no runs: K, FO, BB, FO, K
  23. Some teams GET two-out hits, and some teams Give Up two-out hits. In addition to our well-publicized bases-loaded ineptness, Murphy's AB tonight just took the already low .111 BA with runners on 2nd & 3rd and dragged it down a few notches further.
  24. EYJ is now our 'pre-leadoff' hitter.
