  1. It goes without saying that, with two teams on our tail who both hold a tie-breaker, we REALLY need to have a good series vs Washington. The remaining games are all on the road after this series. The Cubs are good and still not out of winning the NLC title. And, while I don't believe in hexes, jinxes, or what happened X years ago having an effect on what goes on this year, does anyone really want the season to come down to us needing to win two or more games at the end of the schedule in Miami? ... I didn't think so. History hasn't been good to us on that account. Mets: vs WAS x 3, @ CHC x 3, @ MIA x3 Reds: vs CHC x 3, vs PIT 3, @ MIL x 3 Diamondbacks: vs PHI x 3, vs LAD x 3, @ SDP x 3 Giants: @ LAD x 3, vs StL x 3, v COL x 3 DBacks look to have the toughest road, playing three contenders with at least seeding concerns to look out for. The Reds have maybe the easiest, esp if MIL no longer has an incentive by a week from tonight.
  2. Cubs out in top 8. Will need to mount at least a three run comeback in the 9th.
  3. Sauryn Lao on to pitch for the Nats. Funny, he doesn't look Laotian.
  4. And suddenly it's 7-4 Cincy in the 7th The Reds had a game like this against StL earlier in the week, eventually winning 11-6 in a game with multiple lead changes.
  5. I like how the WAS CF climbed the wall and was a mere 10 or 12 feet too short to catch it.
  6. Put that on your out of town scoreboard and suck it, Reds!
  7. Nice non-play by Paul Duh-Jong, amirite folks?
  8. So I was out all day so began watching via delay starting about 4:30. No problem, I do this often and have no problem maintaining radio silence. Make that usually don't. At one point I went to check something on BB-Ref, which should be harmless as they never update anything until the next day. But there in the bottom right corner is a video, something I never really look at. But today, just as I'm moving the cursor over the close it, I see the tiny headline over the box: 'Carlos Mendoza talks about his team's 6-1 lead'. It was a clip for Mendy's postgame chat. Nimmo's HR came about a minute later and there was little mystery involved after that.
  9. After all the stops and starts due to injuries he's had over the last half dozen seasons* the only surprising part is his choice to announce it in season. But he's going out on a pretty good note and will see another post-season, one he might even pitch in for a change. * 22, 22, 24, 7, and 20 (to date) starts since 2021, and just two post-season games/5.1 IP in total during those same seasons despite LAD making the tourney every year.
  10. Oh good, an overly loud generic scoreboard exhortation from a wrestling star who may not know how to spell Mets much less actually root for them himself. I wonder how many different cities have a version of that that the Rock recorded for them too?
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Not sure what they saw in Chelsea there. I do. It hit the top of the padding and then went back briefly before rebounding forward. It still stretches the definition of 'definitive' but that ship sailed a while ago.
  12. I’m not in the weeds on the numbers here but it doesn’t seem that off to me as it appears to also factor in respective talent levels (i.e., the Mets are more likely to play better because they have better players). Yes, I think I know what joke comes next there. If so then their method(s) get beyond the numbers and they're getting a bit subjective ... one might even say a bit generous. Between July 28 & this past Saturday (prior to the wins in the last two games) the Mets had a 14-29 record. That's just over 1/4 of a year and a win rate for a team on pace to lose 109 games over the course of a full season. Seems to me that they should be owed nothing more than to be judged as the team they have been overall -- 'You are what your record says you are' and all that -- one just a hair more than likely than not to win on any given day and less than that if the opponent is any good.
  13. Who does that look worse on, Arraez the batter/runner or the lead runner? Gotta be the lead runner ... but it's close. oe: and now after seeing the overview replay, it's partially on Machado as well!! It was dumpth x 3
  14. That's two weak IF grounders in GiDP situations in two consecutive innings that were hit too weakly to even get a force out much less turn two ... and both lead to runs on the very next AB.
  15. =ashie62 post_id=204731 time=1758150962 user_id=90] I don't know if I've seen a worse CF arm than Mullins
  16. Bottom 11: Perguero still pitching for SF Ketel Marte: 4 - 3, one out, runner moves to 3rd Corbin Carroll: Line-out LF/Sac Fly. 5-1, Two Outs, Bases Empty. Great Diving Catch!! (though stupid play if that gets behind him) Gabriel Moreno: BB Blaze Alexander (Alexander Blaze would be cooler!): K AND THAT'S THE BALLGAME!! This one was big. Drops the Diamondbacks (temporarily) back to 2.0 full games behind and worsens their intra-division record by a smidge. Giants climb a half-game closer (3.0 to 2.5) but 2.5 is really 3.0 w/the NYM/SFG tie-breaker in our favor and the Giants are staring at a four game series @LAD starting Thursday
  17. That the Mets should have the best odds is certainly realistic. That they'd have a better chance than all the others combined seems ... optimistic. btw, since San Diego has two more with the Mets and three with Arizona they should be factored in as well. If the Snakes catch the Mets it could in part be due to them steamrolling SD which, combined with a NYM sweep, could drop the Pads back into the mix for WCs #2 & #3. iow, we could get caught by Arizona AND still make the cut so that throws a few more possible, even if unlikely, scenarios into the pot. Pads finish: @Mets (x2), @CHW x3, MIL x3, ARZ x3
  18. Drew Gilbert (x-NYM prospect): K Grant McCray: Sac Fly - 7, Two outs, runner on 2nd Rafael Devers: RBI Single, runner on 1st Wily Adames: K But it's 5-0 SFG, heading for bottom 11 Even with the ghost runner rule this is looking pretty good.
  19. Top-11 Bryce Eldridge (4th ML AB. Still looking for his first hit): runner to 3rd, and now a walk. 1st & 3rd, pinch runner to 1st Jerar Encarnación: Single, one run in, 1st & 2nd Patrick Bailey: Pop-up just behind 3rd ... but it falls in!! Bases loaded. Christian Koss (announcers: He likes the first pitch): Two Run Double ... on the first pitch 3-0 Giants. Still no outs. Pitching change: John Curtiss out (the second S is for Suck it Dude!) Juan Morillo in (with pink shoes!)
  20. Bottom 10 Tawa - McCarthy - Perdomo (8 - 9 - 1) up for Diamondbacks. Righty Joel Pegeuro in to pitch. Tawa: sac bunt 1-3 gets the runner to 3rd ... so we're right back where we were an inning ago McCarthy (with the infield in): GO to 1st unassisted, no advance even though Devers briefly muffed it (because of course he did) Perdomo: 4-3 On to the 11th. Giants have just one hit thru 10. DBacks have four. And, yes, I realize I'm talking here to mo one but myself and the bots, but it helps me to get thru the inning(s). I tuned in just after the Carroll triple)
  21. Top-10. Devers - Adames - Chapman (clearly their best three hitters) in the 10th for SFG vs lefty Brandyn (really?) Garcia Devers: FO-9, but speedster/PR moves over to 3rd, 1 out. Adames: K Chapman: K This isn't looking good.
  22. SF Giants closer Ryan Walker pitching: K - 1-3 !!!! And so they're on to the clown car rules.
  23. DBacks batting, bottom 9th, Still Scoreless, but a Corbin Carroll out-out triple has him on 3rd. Now a walk makes it 1st & 3rd. And now a HBP loads 'em.
