  1. Well of course we do put extra distance between us and Cincy, and on StL whom the Giants beat. Also Padres down 2-0 in the 7th. But that game is in Denver so I think the projections are currently giving the Rockies a 14% chance to win.
  2. Watching the replay of the final out, a diving Pete Alonso came realclose to tipping that ball which, had he done so, would have deflected the ball into RCF and easily have ended the game the other way. And even if he gloves it I don't think he gets the out at 1st so it's a tie game at best. It's tough to tell Pete not to go for that ball, especially since he's probably not yet used to Acuna's added range so didn't instinctively think the better play was maybe just to retreat to 1st base.
  3. The Yanx started Judge in RF today. I'm not sure if this is the first time since his elbow issues landed him on the IL a month or so ago, but he has been DH'ing either exclusively or almost exclusively since. But when youDH him that means you have to put Stanton in the OF and that brings a whole host of problems on its own. Anyway, just seeing pieces of tonight's game I've seen Judge have to return two balls to the IF and he can't throw at all. Coincidentally, the last OF'er I saw throw this poorly was Stanton following his elbow issues. Prior to that it was Rusty in the 1973 NLCS after he fucked up his shoulder by crashing into the RF wall. He hit like .400 afterward but had to throw underhand. The first one tonight he couldn't throw definitely cost the Yanx a run: a bases loaded single that scored two where no 3B coach sends the runner even if Nimmo were in RF. Didn't matter in the long run as the Jays just closed out a 7-1 win, but it's a problem for them going forward. Do they start the RF who can't throw or the one who can't move?
  4. Good news: We won Bad News: Because of the number of pitches thrown, Diaz will be unavailable until a week from Tuesday
  5. And suddenly I can see a path to salvation!!!
  6. This is the best stalling technique since the days of Johnny Franco's forever loose shoelaces.
  7. That's one, but you're not going to double up de la Cruz
  8. Every miss, same place.
  9. Phillies are romping, Giants up by 6 in the 5th, Cubs already won, Padres down by one early. We NEED this one Edwin.
  10. Throw the mask FAR from you Francisco, not at your feet!!
  11. If Rogers was either taller or shorter we get that out there.
  12. btw, Mendoza let Peterson go into the 7th inning seven times; into the 8th four more times, and into the 9th twice including one CG. So 13 times in his (now) 27 starts. But now in his last seven starts Peterson has seen the 7th only once. So has Mendoza gotten more restrictive or might it have something to do with Peterson's ERA hovering around 7.00 in that time rather than the sub-3.00 earlier on? And, Shirley, we're not arguing that we wanted to see longer outings from Manaea, Senga, Montas, etc., are we?
  13. We've been getting robbed all night!

  16. If the starters want to go deeper they have to earn it, and lately most of them haven't. Mendoza didn't have a problem letting Peterson go 7 - 8 and even 9 earlier in the year when he was pitching well. But his August ERA was nearly 7.00 and here he had given up four runs thru 5-1/3 and was near 100 pitches. Kind of lucky he was left in on long as he was.
  17. =metirish post_id=203348 time=1757117838 user_id=72] Does Gary have something against Cincinnati? ,he likes to rag on them
  18. Peterson not looking like he's going to finish this inning.
  19. Oh the 4th inning blues / Mets pitchers got them 4th inning blues ...
  20. End of 2nd inning pitch totals: Abbott = 48; Peterson = 17 Nice to see us on the low end of that comparison for a change.
  21. Cubs played their common Friday afternoon game and thrashed the Nationals 11-5 so they get the jump on the WC pack as we start the weekend. - Phils will spend the weekend in Miami - San Fran is @ StL - Padres @ Rockies so advantage them - DBacks host the Red Sox And for some AL drama, the Blue Jays visit the Bronx Yanx start this series 3.0 G behind the AL East leading Jays and have lost 7 of 10 to them this season.
  22. Can't call it a bad inning when you score three despite a stolen 3R-HR. So coulda been better, but coulda been worse too: two very soft RBI hits
  23. Yes. As are the opposing Martes. And just until later in the series when McLain faces off against McLean!
  24. The #1, 2, 3, & 5 WAR guys for the Reds this season are all starting pitchers (w/the oft-heralded Elly De La Cruz at #4) and we're going to see three of them this weekend. - lefty Andrew Abbott will go tonight. He held us to two runs over six IP, in a game the Mets eventually won 3-2, during the series at Citi - 26 year old/RH Hunter Greene, the 2nd overall/2017 draft pick, will go Sunday. His career got off to a delayed start after missing all of '20 & '21 with TJS, but he hit his stride starting last year and since the beginning of the 2024 season has a sub-3.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 41 starts. - Saturday's starter Brady Singer is no slouch either. We saw only Abbott during the July series at CF So while GAB may be a hitting friendly park, ya still gotta hit to take advantage of that. Overall the Reds are slightly below the Mets, and a bit above NL lg average, in both RA/G & RS/G
  25. The Yanx have lost 3 of 5 this season to Houston with the final game tonight. They did have a recent seven game winning streak [Aug 24 - 30] but none of that had anything to do with the Astros. Phils just beat Milwaukee 2-0
