  1. So, my son, the erstwhile poster Lenny Harris is in the process of moving to Philadelphia and we came down to see today's game. Certainly the longest game I've been to even without the rain delay but one of the most exciting ones as well. Lotta Met fans but the Phillies fans were actually pretty nice. There was discussion of leaving during the rain delay which if we had would have been something I would gave gnashed my teeth over for the rest of my days.
  2. Yeah, no apostrophes - never mind commas or periods. Also, much longer than this quote.
  3. Very nice. I'm a big acrostic fan and have done the NYT acrostic every other Sunday for probably 30 years. They don't use punctuation which makes it more difficult.
  4. Wouldn't bother to get it while playing for the Royals. Jerk.
  5. Felipe Vazquez is the sex offender who also went by Rivero.
  6. Ryan Thompson. The guy looked like a good player, just didn't play like one.
  7. Completely agree with Willets Point and batmag on the relative worth of Aerosmith and the Eagles. Only about 11 or 12 on Batmag's list are both American and groups (as opposed to solo acts) and some might not quite be in the "classic rock" genre (Monkees don't get a lot of airplay on classic rock stations).
  8. Cobb in Game 1 and Webb in Game 2 make for significant cobwebby action. Time for brooms!
  9. JD Davis still hasn't played the field. Escobar has played a bunch of second in his career, they could have given JD a game with a glove and left Guillorme on the bench where he should be.
  10. 1. What will The Mets record will be? 85-77 2. Where will The Mets finish in the NL East? 3rd 3. Will The Mets make the playoffs (yes/no)? yes 4. If so, A. Where exactly will their record land, 1 through 6 (remember that there are 3 Wild Cards), in the NL; 6 B. How far will they advance; and, NLDS C. The number of games in their final round? 5 5. Who wins the World Series (can be the same answer as Q.4.B.)? Toronto 6. How many home runs will Pete Alonso hit? 34

  12. 8 and 16 are both getting hit by a pitch. Can you pick different players to increase your chances?
  13. Another 2021 Met free-agent signing elsewhere.
  14. Given the speculation that Conforto might have been one of the vax-less Mets, the NYC vaccination rule might be a disincentive for him to re-sign.
  15. Freddie won't be going to the Nats. Nelson Cruz is the full-time DH so Josh Bell will have to keep his first base glove.
  16. Noah Syndergaard, Marcus Stroman, Rich Hill, Aaron Loup, Jeurys Familia, Brad Hand, Javier Baez, Jose Peraza. Might have missed someone but these are all Met free-agents with none re-signing with the team and I can't think of any that have re-signed. Michael Conforto, Jonathan Villar, Kevin Pillar still out there but this feels like an unusual occurence.
  17. 2021 was a year of three really great music docs: Get Back, The Velvet Underground and Summer of Soul. My only beef with SOS is that I could have done with more music and less commentary but that is a small nit. It killed.
  18. While as mentioned earlier, the first Mets game of my life was the first Mets game, the first game played on my birthday (October 22) was in 1986 when the Mets beat the Red Sox in Game 4 of the World Series. Ray Knight had the first hit, a single in the second, Gary Carter hit the first of his two home runs for first Met homer on my birthday. Schaeffer goes to either Carter (3-for-4 with 2 HR) or Ron Darling (7 shutout innings and the win). The only other October 22 game was in 2000 when the MFYs won 6-5, the Mets' 5 runs in the 9th coming up just short in Game 3 of that World Series. I hope to improve to 2-1 in birthday games in '22.
  19. Mets didn't exist when I was born so my first Mets game was the first Mets game where they lost 11-4. First Met hit of my lifetime was a second inning single by Gus Bell. First homer was hit by now Hall of Famer Gil Hodges in the 4th. Schaeffer winner, though, was clearly Charlie Neal who went 3-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI..
  20. "I Me Mine" was actually finished after these sessions. Lindsay-Hogg wanted to use the song in the Let It Be movie since that is when John & Yoko were waltzing but the song wasn't finished so Paul, George and Ringo returned to the studio to finish it. I loved "Get Back" which I watched in two installments -- all of Part One and half of Part Two and then the other half of Part Two and Part Three. I thought the exchange between George and John & Yoko where George says that he has a bunch of songs he wants to do and suggests that they do solo albums and then come back as the Beatles was exactly what they should have done. Paul's announcement that they were splitting wrecked that. Paul has recently said that he wished he knew about that conversation.
  21. The doc was too adulatory. They've done interesting music for many years but what is most interesting about them is their longevity. I was a big fan of the Indiscreet album when it came out (and to a lesser extent Kimono My House). The doc called Indiscreet their Sgt. Pepper although it wasn't received that way. I went to see them opening for Patti Smith (the Horses tour) in late 1976 and hated them. Their sound had changed (as it was to do many times) and I wasn't fond of that iteration.
  22. I agree. That is the best network team out there. I've turned on the teevee for the last couple of innings of both games and got to see some exciting baseball. Man, I really hate the Dodgers. I hate the Braves but not nearly as much as the 20-years-ago Braves.
  23. Buck Showalter
