  1. I got it from Mets Blog which has this excerpt: Nelson is upset. He did what is asked of any starting pitcher in baseball - he gave them a quality start and kept them in the game He expected more than 1 day in the big leagues this time around. Hot Foot has this excerpt: "When he called after the game I said, Whats up? and he said, Its not whats up, its whos down. They just designated me. I sat in complete shock. I had no words. The feeling of complete numbness entered my body. I think I sputtered, Im so sorry and Nelson said, Yeah, I need to call you later. I didnt want him to call because I didnt know what to say. In general, after you have a quality start (defined as 6 innings 3 earned runs or less. A win is not necessary) and you have heard the media told you are going to slip into the long man role, you dont expect to be on the next plane out of town. So I was pretty confident those werent the words Id hear." I guess there was too much attention for Nelson's liking.
  2. Nelson Figueroa's wife isn't happy: http://thefigueroas.blogspot.com/2009/04/dfa.html
  3. Welcome to the Mets (minors), Willy Mo Pena http://www.metsblog.com/2009/04/20/news-mets-sign-wily-mo-pena/
  4. The picture is from the DC Sports "Bog." Steinberg is good--by DC standards, he's great--and I think, unlike one of his colleagues, he likes sports.
  5. Will this cause dissension in the Mets clubhouse between David Wright (Vitamin Water) and Johan/Jose (SoNu)?
  6. Casey Fossum. Welcome. Nelson Figueroa. DFA'd. Of course, they could have just started Stokes today instead of Figueroa (and Pelfrey) allowing them to keep O'Day. Or they could have DL'd Pelfrey. Instead, they've potentially lost two decent pitchers.
  7. BG--I agree with you but O'Day has been DFA'd. Since O'Day is a Rule V guy, he's gone unless the Angels agree to trade him so he can stay w/the Mets.
  8. I felt the same thing. My son and I were both on our feet, high-fiving.
  9. Schneider to the DL... welcome Omir Santos (#9).
  10. Welll done TM. Kendall is having trouble throwing out runners. Jerry needs to turn 'em loose this weekend.
  11. Seaver is listed in the media guide as a Mets Ambassador (as is Rusty Staub) which, besides being a cool title, probably includes a "stipend" and a requirement to makes a certain number of appearances. Heyman is a MFY loving hack.
  12. F U Gary Darling.
  13. CF--thank you for your review. Benigno and Roberts ripped the park apart this morning: it doesn't seem like the Mets play there (i.e. not enough Mets stuff in the park); not enough Mets colors; it takes too long to leave from the top sections; lousy scoreboard; too much Brooklyn Dodgers, etc. They claimed that PNC Park, Citizen's Bank, Camden Yards and the SF Park are superior.
  14. I switched from EI to ESPN. I was listening closely, but did I hear "if you think Frankie is bad, you should try Orel."
  15. That shit call changes the whole inning. Bastard.
  16. Jerry Seinfeld is at the game: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/galleries/citi_field_opening_day/citi_field_opening_day.html#ph6
  17. Murphy showed a good sense of humor by smiling at the sarcastic cheers after he caught a routine flyball.
  18. Francesa is the Bill O'Reilly of sports talk radio. I don't mean that as a complement.
  19. If Daniel Murphy is at the birth, he'll drop the baby. HI-YO!
  20. Locals cable channels (but not over-the-air channels) can show the local teams. However, the broadcasts cannot begin after 1 PM eastern and before 7 eastern as FOX has exclusive TV rights to baseball during those hours. EI and mlb.tv cannot show any game that starts during the above hours, even if it is on FOX but not available locally (so tonight's game isn't on the EI schedule). The rules differ for EI and mlb.tv for 1 starts (I don't know why). As a result, as a Mets fan in the DC area: if the Mets have a 1 PM Saturday game, it is on mlb.tv but not EI. If the game starts after 1 and before 7, it is not available in either venue. (One year, the Mets had a Saturday DH against SF. The second game started after the FOX game finished but before 7 so it wasn't available outside of NY and SF.) If the Mets are on a FOX game but it is not shown in DC, it is not available on EI or mlb.tv (as if I'm going to say "hey, the Mets aren't on but the Orioles are so at least I have baseball). The blackout rules are overlybroad and unfair. E.g., EI and mlb.tv subscribers in Las Vegas are blacked out from 6 different teams broadcasts. This has been talked about for years and Selig talks about fixing it but never does. Maybe with today's absurdity, something will be done (although I wish it happened to a MFY broadcast).
  21. Their #3 batter got a 2 out RBI. Our #3 batter didn't. Not the only reason, but c'mon David, let's go. BTW, how come the f'in Marlins can clap their hands all game long and point to the sky after a 5th inning K, but the Mets are the showboats that the Marlins hate? Look in the mirror!
  22. On an unrelated note, Chico Harlan chatted today: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2009/04/08/DI2009040801357.html He didn't answer any questions or comments about his infamous statement that he hated sports. I know that he received at least one.
  23. Nicely done FK. I was surprised that Dusty Baker knew how to do a double-switch.
  24. I agree that there's nothing further to say. Perhaps it belonged in the "Bring Out Your Dead" thread, but since it's baseball related, I thought it should be here. I apologize if this shouldn't have been posted at all.
  25. http://www.tmz.com/2009/04/09/angels-starting-pitcher-killed-after-ball-game/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/09/nick-adenhart-angels-pitc_n_185133.html Being talked about on Angels MBs. It's not on other sites yet.
