  1. Omar says that Francoeur is a gold glover: http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/mets/archives/2009/07/church_traded_f.html
  2. ="seawolf17":1emywyfh]You know, Werth and Victorino -- as much as I hate both of them -- are better than anything we're putting in the outfield right now, and quite frankly, if they'll help the Mets get home field advantage in the World Series, I'm all for it, especially if they seriously injure themselves while they do it.[/quote:1emywyfh] Brilliant. Nicely done.
  3. That must be a mistake: it's a line-up from the first week of ST.
  4. By Tom Singer / MLB.com 07/10/09 2:13 PM ET Phillies outfielder Jayson Werth has been added to the National League All-Star team as a replacement for the Mets' Carlos Beltran. Werth joins the other two Philadelphia outfielders already on the team -- Raul Ibanez, elected as a starter by the fans' vote, and Final Vote winner Shane Victorino. The 1995 Cleveland Indians -- with Albert Belle, Kenny Lofton and Manny Ramirez -- were the last team to have its entire outfield on an All-Star team. Beltran, also an elected starter, has been on the disabled list since June 22 with a bone bruise on his right knee. Werth becomes the 26th first-time All-Star on the rosters for the 80th Midsummer Classic, to be played Tuesday at St. Louis' Busch Stadium. According to MLB, any injured starter will be replaced by the top vote-getter on the player ballot who's not a starter. The Rockies' Brad Hawpe received 394 votes, more than the D-backs' Justin Upton's 277 and the 156 received by the Astros' Hunter Pence. [emphasis added.]
  5. The only time I'd ever vote for Victorino is a "biggest jerk" contest. And Werth replaces Beltran on the A-S team. Great--two more Phillies.
  6. I was thrilled to see Capt. Intangibles and Ryan Howard fly away. I was hoping that they would disappear into thin air but then we saw the arch as a magnet. We later saw someone that looked familiar, I think it was Jose Reyes, and he ran toward the magnet but didn't get hurt. We also saw someone that appeared to be David Wright but he actually hit the magnet and this year's David Wright would have missed it. (That was mean, sorry David.)
  7. From Wikipedia: On January 6, 2009, Marquis was traded to the Colorado Rockies for pitcher Luis Vizcano. General Manager Dan O'Dowd said "We like (Marquis') athleticism, age and durability." You are correct. Of course, our GM could have traded for him.
  8. "Tim Redding sucks horribly in the rotation, goes to middle-relief limbo. Now he's suckiness concentrate, one inning of mistakes down at a time." Jason Marquis was a FA, like Redding. Marquis is a NYker and I'm sure would rather have pitched in NY than Colorado but our genius GM went after Redding instead.
  9. Excellent KTE Nymr83.
  10. As if having the '69 Mets on the cover of the latest SI isn't enough, we learn some things about Mike Pelfrey in the Pop Culture grid: http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1157654/index.htm
  11. JCL: great response--it made me laugh (perhaps to avoid from crying that A. Reyes is the best call-up that our team can come up with).
  12. F. Martinez to the DL (after, what, a week?), and back, by popular demand, you know him, you love him, you can't live without him, ladies and gentleman... A. Reyes!

  15. Lots of bizarre play by the Nationals last night, including a player getting hit in the nuts by a grounder and a player falling down on the bases: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2009/07/how_the_nats_lost_last_night.html Normally, I'd laugh at this but it's not any different than the play of our team. BTW, the winning pitcher last night for the Rockies never threw a pitch: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gamecenter/recap/MLB_20090707_WAS@COL
  16. Nymr83 wrote: FUCK YOU CASTILLO we're down 3 runs with wright and sheffield coming up and you get thrown out trying for 3rd base??? I HATE THIS FUCKING TEAM Well put. Two hits in an inning isn't just a rally, it's a miracle but Castillo screws things up again.
  17. Don't forget that Curt Flood helped see to it that players cease being property after a certain amount of service. In-season trades must stink, both for the players and their families, but they can live wherever they want, even PSL!, for four or five months every year.
  18. Recent tweets: # David Lennon lenno212Tatis at first, Evans in LF, Sheffield in RF. #Mets just finished a drill that involved calling for shallow pops. I'm not joking.11 minutes ago from TwitterBerry # Bart Hubbuch NYPost_MetsNot that it worked out too well the first time he did it, but Jerry Manuel had the #Mets out early for infield practice today. And two more: # lenno212Beltran only riding bike. No baseball activity. Will be re-evaluated at AS break. Probably won't be back until late July - at earliest.#mets1 minute ago from TwitterBerry # David Lennon lenno212Reyes back in NYC. Got another cortisone shot. Shut down again for a few days. Not good. #mets3 minutes ago from TwitterBerry
  19. They were healthy last year. They were healthy the year before. It's not like Omar has a track record for making great in-season moves. The time to do something was a month ago, when they were in LA and Murphy was crapping around in LF and Reed was crapping around at 1B. Now, it may be too late. I hope not.

  21. Omar has failed to make in-season improvements to help the team, both this season and last. He should have made a move a month ago but did not. (I know that we don't know what he tried to do, if anything.) He also didn't make any moves last year. He is great at spending money and luring FAs but weak at trading while the season in on-going. For the Mets, when healthy, not to win something, even the wild card, with the money they are spending and the stars they have is absurd and Omar should be taking the blame.
  22. Congrats to Wright and Beltran! Santana and Frankie, too.
  23. I understand Kong but listening to Jerry day-after-day making a joke after each loss has worn thin. I don't mind a sense of humor but there's a time and a place and after the poor play, I don't think that this is the time.
  24. I'm sure he cares but the daily yuck-fest is pathetic. I'm not suggesting that he turn over tables but I don't like the daily joking around.
