It's been a part of almost every interview. This was the first time that a President has thrown out the first pitch at an All-Star Game since '76. It was very special and he should be lauded for helping us celebrate baseball. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/14/AR2009071403998.html?hpid=artslot
  2. Way to cut it off Braun. Geez.
  3. Dear David Wright, Sometimes it's OK to turn down a commercial... especially if they have you saying "holla."
  4. MGIM--wow
  5. Where's Mark McGuire?
  6. I hate that State Farm commercial--nobody has any Mets stuff.
  7. Herm Edwards would vote no.

  9. "I'll watch casually"--no tie.
  10. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/ny-spparks1412966058jul13,0,6093781.story Some changes will be made to CF. What gets me that management had to "hear" from the fans before realizing that we want Mets history to be incorporated into a Mets ballpark. A smarter management would have built a team HOF right away instead of as an afterthought. A smarter management would have kept a panel or two from the Shea OF fence in place (if it didn't impede traffic) as both an historical marker and a meeting place.
  11. Have you heard of this guy? http://www.battingstanceguy.com/ http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/15/sports/baseball/15stance.html He's on Letterman tomorrow. He's very good and anybody that can do an impression of Benny Agbayani's stance is OK with me. http://www.battingstanceguy.com/2008/05/10/mets
  12. With the All-Star Game in St. Louis, we can expect to hear that "St. Louis is the best baseball town in America" about a zillion times. Literally, a zillion! Maybe it's the Mets-Cardinals rivalry driving my opinion, maybe it's being from New York, but I've always felt that this was a load of horse poop. How do you quantify being a great baseball town? Did somebody take a survey? Tonight, I've heard/seen it twice because so many fans are still in the park for the Futures Game after a four hour delay. What else is there to do in St. Louis? Groom the Clydesdales, then what? What do you think of St. Louis being called the best baseball town (isn't it a city?) in the land?
  13. Mets are 2 and 0 w/IGT's starting with The Clash and with Francoeur.
  14. The Apple needs some Viagra.
  15. What's it called when a batter hits it over the OF fence? I forgot. Thanks Brian for reminding us!
  16. "I feel sick again today Mommy." Every single game on SNY. How about switching up the PSAs?
  17. Don't forget that the Futures Game is on @ 2, ESPN2. Two Mets prospects are on the World team, Mejia and Flores. I can't figure out why MLB puts this game against regular season games. How about tonight in lieu of a regular season game, or on Wednesday? The logistics may not allow it but this is a showcase event and it's buried on Sunday afternoon.
  18. METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B David Wright 3B Gary Sheffield LF Jeff Francoeur RF Daniel Murphy 1B Brian Schneider C Alex Cora SS Mike Pelfrey RHP (6-4, 4.52) Reds: Chris Dickerson RF Willy Taveras CF Joey Votto 1B Brandon Phillips 2B Laynce Nix LF Ramon Hernandez C Edwin Encarnacion 3B Jerry Hairston Jr. SS Aaron Harang RHP (5-8, 3.89) Wouldn't a two-game winning streak going into the break be great? We stand by you, Mets! (Not a Clash expert, best one I could come up with.)
  19. I didn't know we had this thread and posted about this in the IGT (even though it was post-game). The only thing I will add is Gary singing along to "Wonderful World."
  20. [moved to another thread]
  21. Who taught Francoeur how to do the secret handshake?
  22. Let's hope that Evans can stay focused at Buffalo and not play like he did when he was there earlier this season. He's in the lineup today, as is Berroa. Neise on the mound. http://buffalo.bisons.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=g_box&gid=2009_07_11_bufaaa_swbaaa_1&did=t422&sid=t422
  23. METS: Pagan, cf Castillo, 2b Wright, 3b Sheffield, lf Francoeur, rf Murphy, 1b Santos, c Cora, ss Santana, lhp NYPost_MetsThe #Mets said Angel Berroa was signed as a free agent after he cleared waivers and was not a waiver-wire claim.
  24. FK: I read that he'll be #12 for the Mets.
  25. I like Church but I think we've seen him as good as he'll be. A good #6 hitter, semi-dangerous against righties, not feared against lefties, an excellent fielder, needs some love and support to avoid losing confidence (don't we all). Francoeur has more upside than Church but his upside, '06 and '07, may have come and gone. If new surroundings can help him get back to even close to that level, it's a good trade for the Mets. If he doesn't improve on his current level, then it's not. Because of the greater upside, and given that we're looking toward the 2010 Mets, I like the deal. However, I fear that since Bobby Cox, who is smarter than what we've got, couldn't turn him around, then he won't improve. At minimum, it shows that Omar is alive and since he's the only GM we've got, that's nice to see.
