  1. Murphy HR'd off a lefty yesterday but it worked out so good job Jerry.
  2. Once again we see why Pagan is not an everyday ML player. Good hitter, good fielder, ten-cent head.
  3. Cubs: Fukudome, CF Theriot, SS Bradley, RF Ramirez, 3B Hoffpauir, 1B Baker, 2B Soto, C Fuld, LF Zambrano, P METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B David Wright 3B Daniel Murphy 1B Jeff Francoeur RF Cory Sullivan LF Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez SS Bobby Parnell RHP (3-7, 5.81) I guess Sheff still has back spasms. It couldn't be anything else, could it? Johan's at the park and said that he could pitch if the team was in the race. Duh--my fantasy team has Johan and is 2 points out of first... what more of race does he want? Get out there! Derek Lee is with his new baby and Soriano is "shut down" with a knee injury. Notes I found from Stats, Inc. while looking for the Cubs lineup: * The Cubs have won six of their last nine meetings with the Mets. * The Mets rank second in the NL with a .279 batting average since August 1. * Luis Castillo is hitting .359 at home this season - a .104 increase from his .255 batting average on the road. * The Cubs are 6-11 on their last two road trips with an average of only 3.4 runs scored per game. * Aramis Ramirez is hitting .349 with nine RBI in his last 11 games. * Carlos Zambrano has pitched less than five innings in each of his last two starts against the Mets. In those last two starts combined, he has pitched 8.0 innings with a 9.00 ERA and .378 opponent batting average.
  4. I almost wrote "Pagan-like" but thought that would lead to a different level of jokes.
  5. A great announcer. It takes a lot for me to say that about someone that doesn't work for one of my teams but Harwell was a wonderful listen.
  6. He also has minimal range and makes "bad baseball decisions" (i.e. is a knucklehead).
  7. METS: Pagan, cf Hernandez, 2b Wright, 3b Murphy, 1b Francoeur, rf Sullivan, lf Thole, c Valdez, ss Misch, lhp Rockies: C. Gonzalez cf C. Barmes 2b T. Helton 1b T. Tulowitzki ss R. Spilborghs rf S. Smith lf C. Iannetta c I. Stewart 3b J. Marquis p
  8. METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B Daniel Murphy 1B Jeff Francoeur RF Cory Sullivan LF Fernando Tatis 3B Brian Schneider C Wilson Valdez SS Tim Redding RHP (2-4, 5.94)
  9. Wanna see a Buffalo Bisons triple play from tonight? Go to the Buffalo Bisons website--for some reason, I'm having trouble linking to it--A. Reyes to Rivera to Lamb.
  10. Sheffield might not play in the field for the rest of the season. Omar justified not trading him because he wanted to keep a competitive team on the field (why start now?) and he can't play anyway. Well done, Omar!
  11. METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B David Wright 3B Jeff Francoeur RF Fernando Tatis 1B Nick Evans LF Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez SS Mike Pelfrey RHP (9-9, 4.80) Rockies: C. Gonzalez cf S. Smith lf T. Helton 1b T. Tulowitzki ss B. Hawpe rf G. Atkins 3b C. Barmes 2b Y. Torrealba c J. De La Rosa p Welcome back D. Wright who is wearing a fancy new batting helmet tonight. It would have been nice to see Thole right away. He'll start Thursday. Wright rests tomorrow. Sheffield is still aching which could mean pissed for not being traded. Almost every team has added 3 or 4 players. The Mets added one. The Mariners added Mike Carp and Jason Vargas who were in the Putz deal.
  12. Good tweet from Dave Lennon: lenno212 Today's #Mets lineup = $11 M; H.Ramirez + Uggla = $10.85 M. Damn those big-market #Marlins.
  13. METS: Angel Pagan CF Wilson Valdez SS Daniel Murphy 1B Jeff Francoeur RF Cory Sullivan LF Fernando Tatis 3B Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez 2B Tim Redding RHP (1-4, 6.10) Wilson Valdez is hitting 2d.
  14. I expected this one--no need for him to go out and get lit up anymore this year. Let him go go home and get his head, such as it is, together for ST. The Mets current rotation: Pelfrey Figueroa--released earlier this year Misch (probably)--released earlier this year by SF Redding--demoted from the rotation earlier this year and then almost released Parnell--a middle inning reliever at the start of the year.
  15. Ollie to the DL. Done for the year.
  16. METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B Daniel Murphy 1B Jeff Francoeur RF Cory Sullivan LF Fernando Tatis 3B Brian Schneider C Anderson Hernandez SS Mike Pelfrey RHP (9-8, 4.67) Sheff is out because of back spasms. Somebody recently asked for Lance Broadway. You got him! He's up to replace Ollie.
  17. I never want to see Anderson Hernandez again. He has no range, as evidenced by his misplay on the GW hit last night, can barely hit, and doesn't have a head for the game. I wonder if the Mets value Cora's leadership skills so highly that they'll bring him back.
  18. Winter '08-'09: Despite the need for a power bat in the OF, the Mets choose to turn LF to largely unproven Daniel Murphy. In the minor leagues, Murphy played 3B and 1B. In October and November of '08, the Mets had Murphy play 2B in the Arizona Fall League. Yet when the Mets opened the season, Murphy was in LF. Meanwhile, Adam Dunn was a free agent until February but the Mets ignored him, choosing to go with Murphy.
  19. Bengie Molina would be a good 2 year pickup at catcher. Nothing more than 2 because he's 35. He could tutor Thole. And it's about time that the Mets had a Molina on their side.
  20. METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B Gary Sheffield LF Jeff Francoeur RF Fernando Tatis 3B Daniel Murphy 1B Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez SS Nelson Figueroa RHP (1-2, 6.30) Good to see Francoeur in there. At ESPN's "Streak for the Cash", this game is on the board as to who will win. 97% have picked the Marlins.
  21. Chris Carter is supposed to be one of the two PTBNL. Not the ex-Viking. Not the host of "Breakfast With The Beatles." Wikipedia already has him on the Mets. He got the first RBI at CF (in the exhibition game). http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=4002921 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Carter_%28left-handed_hitter%29 http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/Chris-Carter.shtml Mr. Administrator: perhaps we could have a separate thread for the post-trade activity?
  22. I'm guessing Misch. He was used as a starter during at Buffalo. Amazing/pathetic that Redding is a definite starter when he was on the verge of being released and that Figueroa is a definite starter even though he was released by the Mets at least twice. And Misch was released by the Giants this season.
  23. Not all injury news is bad: Ollie is going back to NY to have his knee checked. Maybe they'll sit him down for the rest of the year and hope he has his head together in the spring.
  24. Misch and Evans have been recalled.
