  2. Liked them both plenty but I'm a tad sentimental towards Stand By Me.
  3. From the same article. ] "If you can't find the pitching, you have to find more offense," Tony Bernazard.
  4. From the same thread. ] Source: Maddux is pitching coach 9:55 PM Sun, Nov 02, 2008 The Rangers will name Mike Maddux pitching coach perhaps as early as Monday, a source with knowledge of the process said Sunday night. GM Jon Daniels confirmed only that the Rangers had been in touch with Maddux this weekend. He did not confirm or deny the report. The Rangers were able to contact Maddux about the job officially on Saturday, a day after his contract with Milwaukee expired. Maddux, 47, has been the Brewers pitching coach the last six seasons. Milwaukee had extended him an offer to remain as new manager Ken Macha's pitching coach, but Maddux refrained from signing anything until talking to the Rangers. Maddux, the oider brother of Greg Maddux, is likely to cite Nolan Ryan's presence as a reason for electing to leave for the Rangers. Maddux's first job as a coach was with the Ryan-owned Double-A Round Rock Express in 2000. In Maddux's first year in Milwaukee, the Brewers posted a 5.02 ERA and ranked 13th in the NL, but by this season, they had improved to 3.85, which ranked second in the league. UPDATE: Brewers GM Doug Melvin is confirming that Maddux is coming to the Rangers. Melvin told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that the Rangers "overwhelmed" Maddux with a multi-year deal. I have no details on the contract, but you can be pretty certain Maddux will receive at least three years. Dallas Morning News
  5. Fans over at Brewers Net seem a little pissed about this , apparently Sveum asked for the hitting coach job. http://brewersfandemonium.yuku.com/topic/16393/t/Sveum--Return--Hitting-Coach-Sedar--Castro----Brad-Fischer.html ] Ouch. Talk about your old boys' club. "We'll keep you on, we'll pay you some handsome salary, you can have the title of 'hitting coach' or something." If the position of Hitting Coach is so unskilled that just anyone can step in and do it, just eliminate the coaching spot and make it part of someone else's duties. Or give it to an intern or something. This smacks of favoritism and unprofessionalism. Very unimpressed. Very disappointed. Just like that, all the strides we've taken to be more "mid-market" are turned about on us. This is small market, bush league, laughable, silly, embarassing. Actually like most fans they seem split on this.
  6. ] City now owns over 40% of Willets Point after latest buy By John Lauinger Daily News Staff Writer Monday, November 3rd 2008, 10:29 AM The city has gobbled up another chunk of Willets Point in Queens as Mayor Bloomberg pushes his plan to transform the gritty industrial zone near Shea Stadium. In the biggest land deal to date in the neighborhood, the city persuaded Indian food distributor House of Spices - the second-largest landowner at Willets Point - to sell its 4 acres, city officials told the Daily News. The deal is expected to be announced Monday along with an agreement for a third of an acre owned by another company. Combined with previously inked deals, the city now controls more than 40% of the 62-acre tangle of auto body shops and other businesses - and could soon have half the land. Bloomberg wants to spend $3 billion to turn the area into a glitzy enclave of 5,500 residences, stores, a hotel and a convention center. The percentage of city-controlled land is becoming increasingly important as pressure mounts on Bloomberg to sell skeptical City Council members on his plan before Nov. 13. That is the deadline for the Council to take a make-or-break vote on the proposal. Previously, 32 of 51 Council members signed a letter saying Bloomberg's $3 billion proposal is "doomed" unless eminent domain - the government's power to take private land for public use - is taken off the table. City economic development officials are promising to roll out as many as nine additional deals before the deadline. Four deals are "imminent" and could be announced this week, and talks with five other businesses are "very far along," said Andrew Brent, a spokesman for Deputy Mayor Robert Lieber. If all of those deals are inked, the city would control slightly more than half of Willets Point. "They still have a lot of work to do in a very short period of time," said City Councilman Hiram Monserrate (D-Queens), whose district includes Willets Point. He said the city must also add more affordable housing to the plan. jlauinger@nydailynews.com
  7. ] Finally some destruction I can support. It be cool if we cracked that open and Rachel Ray would come out naked. Saw her recently and couldn't believe how heavy she has gotten.
  8. I saw the video of tis on the News yesterday , very lame but not surprising.
  9. It would be a hell of a poke but in the new stadium we could have the "Chop Shop Splash" home run , although it might not be safe for the kids to be lining up out there waiting for one.

  11. 12. ]Joe Maddon's glasses (+1); Do I even need to read past this?....bloody joke this is.
  13. They will have David Price as a starter next season too , are you reading this somewhere or is this your own feeling?. I don't know why they wouldn't just keep them all , the Kazmir money is nothing really.
  14. Very cool .
  15. I was just reading in Newsday about Texeria and 10 years $200 million was mentioned , will what's going on now with the economy mean anything for the FA market?
  16. From Ken Davidoff , ] Quick thoughts on Yankees and Mets prospects, from a scout who recently spent time in the Arizona Fall League: For the Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes: "He scuffled when I saw him." First baseman Juan Miranda: "He's got a little power. He's no Gold Glove, though, despite what the Yankees say about him." Second baseman Kevin Russo: "He played hard and saw the ball well." Centerfielder Austin Jackson: "He threw well. He's a pretty good athlete." Mets reliever Eddie Kunz: "He's got some ceiling." Daniel Murphy: "Not too pretty at second base."
  17. Yeah I think that too , it's got to be nice to know that you can pencil in David Price into the starting rotation next season. Obviously we have not seen much of him but wow he looks like a keeper.
  18. Six votes for each movie , not a minority so far.

  22. Cable rate increases across the board for the New Year , if you have the bundle from cablevision then there will be no rate increase but for others it will be as much as 3.5 percent... http://www.chicagotribune.com/technology/sns-ap-cable-rates-rising,0,1130588.story
  23. Carriage The network has signed contracts with 36 cable and satellite carriers.[5] In a deal that may be copied by other sports league owned channels, MLB tied carriage of the MLB Network to the ability to carry the popular out of market MLB Extra Innings package. In return, cable and satellite providers were offered a minority share of the new network. I hope cablevision carry it.
