According to NESN, the Braves will send 1B Casey Kotchman to Boston.
-
Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports says the Red Sox have traded 1B Adam LaRoche to the Braves.
-
If he comes then he's got to kiss Beltran's mole.

Cleveland C/1B Victor Martinez is on his way to Boston, SI.com has learned. The deal is believed to include right-hander Justin Masterson and another pitcher. MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo says the other player involved is Nick Hagadone. Coveted Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz is not included in the deal, SI.com has learned. It's not going to be hard-throwing Daniel Bard because Cleveland only wants starters. The switch-hitting Martinez made his third All-Star team this season and is hitting .284 with 15 home runs, 67 RBIs and 56 runs in 99 games. Martinez, 30, is a career .297 hitter. This deal comes two days after the Indians traded reigning Cy Young winner Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco to the Phillies for four prospects.

SI reporting it's done.....they say it looks like Nick Johnson is going to the Marlins

Wouldn't V Martinez play catcher though?

Will Carroll: Beltran might miss all of 2010
metirish replied to Centerfield's topic in New York Mets Talk
I apologize CF . I missed or it didn't click that you wrote 2010 season. So Beltran makes a decision to come back for this season apparently knowing that he needs surgery in the off season that will have him out for next season. The mind boggles. -

Without even going to the link wasn't there a report on SNY regurgitated in the booth that Beltran could be back in two to three weeks? -

He plays pathetic defense and really hasn't hit that well, with the exception of taking walks. He's hitting a home run less than once a week, and who knows if he'll be 100% if/when he comes back.[/quote:3subh3w8] And here was me thinking that Sheffield was one of the better players for the Mets during the worst of times this season. Hitting a home run less than once a week seems an odd way to make a point ceetar.

From a link Edgy linked? earlier from June 13 2004 ] INSIDE PITCH Mets General Manager JIM DUQUETTE said the team was still trying to add players through trades. Duquette has spoken with Kansas City General Manager ALLARD BAIRD about CARLOS BELTRAN, the Royals' center fielder, who will be a free agent after the season. The Mets would like to trade for Beltran, but are not looking to deal the third-base prospect DAVID WRIGHT. If the Mets landed Beltran, they would probably use him in right field and keep MIKE CAMERON in center. Beltran said Friday that he would not sign a long-term contract with a team that would not let him play center field.

referring to himself in the third person Minaya apologized today NY Mets general manager Omar Minaya apologizes for causing 'distraction' by criticizing reporter by Brian Costa/The Star-Ledger Thursday July 30, 2009, 11:26 AM ] NEW YORK -- Mets general manager Omar Minaya apologized again Thursday for his conduct during Monday's press conference to announce the firing of Tony Bernazard, during which he got into a heated exchange with a reporter. Minaya said he met with New York Daily News reporter Adam Rubin to apologize in person Wednesday. "You guys know me," Minaya said. "That's just not the way Omar Minaya is, that's not what I stand for, but the bottom line is I made a mistake. The bottom line is that you make a mistake, and I admit to making a mistake in bringing up the things that I did." Sitting in the Mets' dugout before Thursday's doubleheader against the Rockies at Citi Field, Minaya said the fallout from Monday has been a distraction as Friday's non-waiver trade deadline approaches. But he said it hasn't kept him from being active in trade talks. "I've been talking to teams, guys," Minaya said. "I turned down a couple of trades yesterday. I mean, I talked to some teams and believe it or not we had some pretty big names that were presented. That being said, if you talk to general managers around the league, I've been calling around. We have some ideas."

Pirates president Coonelly explains fire sale Posted by: Jon Heyman Pirates president Frank Coonelly, who along with GM Neal Huntington may have the thickest skin in baseball, explained their fire sale in an interview with SI.com. "We feel very good about it. It's tough for the fans, and we understand why. It's tough to see players who were popular and did good things go. But we were not a winning baseball team with the players we had,'' Coonelly said. "Given the ages and service time of those players, if we attempted to patchwork things, we would have been in a very poor position. We would have had Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, Jack Wilson and potentially Freddy Sanchez (he has a vesting option) ready to leave as free agents and get nothing in return. "The reaction of some is negative. But I think most of the fans understand what we're doing and why we're doing it ... I think they understand why these moves are necessary for us to (facilitate) winning Pirates baseball.'' Coonelly won't quite say they are done dealing. Though after trading their longtime double-play combination of Wilson and Sanchez Wednesday following deals of Adam LaRoche and Nate McLouth, Coonelly did say, "We are very close to getting done.'' Reliever John Grabow has been coveted by several teams looking for left-handed bullpen help. So Coonelly can't guarantee the sale is complete. The Pirates received infielder Ronny Cedeno, minor-league hitter Jeff Clement and three Class-A pitching prospects in exchange for Wilson and pitcher Ian Snell, and got well-regarded pitching prospect Tim Alderson back from the Giants for Sanchez. While Giants fans were upset over the loss of Alderson, Coonelly wasn't gloating. Asked whether he thinks Giants fans are right that Alderson will be a star, Coonelly said, "Let's hope so. There's a long list of great prospects who never panned out, and just as long a list of prospects who weren't that highly thought of who became stars. We certainly like Tim.'' Clement, a former No. 3 overall pick, was once considered a big-time prospect. But there are questions now whether he can catch. He'll start as a first baseman in the Pirates organization

The first game is a must.
-
From the Mets blog at the Daily News( not with Rubin btw) Luis Castillo's wife is scheduled to give birth today, so he is not in the lineup for Game 1, but apparently would be available later in the opener. I would think he'd start at second in Game 2. Um , here's hoping for a quick delivery

Same as above for me , nice stories or whatever you what to call them but when I find out they are not true it's a bleh , not at all surprised bu any of it though.

I've always been underwhelmed by Overbay , never seemed to have that big breakout year. I could be wrong on that but he doesn't do much for me.

Frayed Knot Jul 29 2009 02:58 PM Eddie C's speculation on what set Omar on the road to anti-Runin-ism: When the press conference got delayed (as it always seems to be) SNY had some time to kill and spent part of it with Burkhardt interviewing Rubin. Ergo that ticks Omar off and leads to the impromptu verbal caning. dgwphotography Jul 29 2009 03:00 PM I didn't see that. If he was indeed gloating, that would take him down a few pegs in my eyes. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 29 2009 03:05 PM Didn't see it, either. But, well, let's just say you can't add false modesty to his list of sins (following is from his rebuttal in yesterday's Snooze): ]I want to get something straight. Everything I wrote about Tony Bernazard - bombshell stories that appeared in the pages of the Daily News over the last week - is accurate. My reporting was solid, met the journalistic standards of sourcing and beyond and was untainted by any personal agenda on my part. The Mets fired Bernazard Monday, after conducting an investigation that presumably reflected the damning information contained in my stories. Frayed Knot Jul 29 2009 03:11 PM And Eddie admits to not having seen it either, but rather got that idea via some of those who had both seen it and liked Tony meaning that the perception of Rubin's attitude was filtered through those eyes & ears.
