  1. Feliciano is the 8th inning guy says Marty Noble http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100329&content_id=8982670&vkey=news_nym&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym&partnerId=rss_nym
  2. They finally claimed him on the third try.
  3. Lennon's short hops: Collins a lot like Valentine In an effort to overhaul their farm system, the Mets reached out to a two-time former manager with a Dodgers background and experience in Japan. No, it wasn't Bobby Valentine. He still works for ESPN. But the similarities between Valentine and Terry Collins are uncanny - from the high motor to the Dodgers pedigree to the fact that each did stints managing in Japan. The comparison is inevitable, and in these parts, where Valentine is viewed as some kind of conquering hero in exile, it's a compliment. "I have had a lot of people that know the two of us say that," Collins said. "A lot of them. People in Japan say the same thing." In listing the potential replacements for Jerry Manuel, should his final season end abruptly, Collins' name usually is included along with newly hired scout Bob Melvin, bench coach Dave Jauss and later down the line, Brooklyn Cyclones manager Wally Backman. But Collins, 60, may be more valuable in his current role as minor-league field coordinator, an ambiguous title that carries with it a very important goal: assess and improve the Mets' organization at every level. "I know the importance of the job, and that is to make sure we're producing major-league baseball players," said Collins, who had the same role with the Dodgers from 2002-06. "We all want them to play in New York. But if Omar [Minaya] needs to make a deal, we've got to have guys who other teams want. That's what this job is about." The Mets' minor-league system also could use an image makeover after Tony Bernazard's reported misconduct last season, and even worse, just one affiliate had a record of .500 or better - their Dominican summer league squad (49-23). The rest of the clubs combined for a .447 winning percentage (366-453), and Triple-A Buffalo, where Collins remains immensely popular from his managing days with the Bisons, was viewed as a civic disaster at 56-87. "I'm not going against anything Tony did - his ideas were his ideas," Collins said. "I didn't experience what happened. I've heard lots and lots and lots of stories. But it's about playing baseball. It's about enjoying the game and learning how to deal with struggles, because it's a long, hard road. To make guys miserable is not what we got into this for. "The object is when the game's over, to have a father leave the park with his son and say, 'That's how you play. That's how you're supposed to play the game.' " Seems like a smart hire, hopefully he sticks around for a while. http://www.newsday.com/sports/columnists/david-lennon/lennon-s-short-hops-collins-a-lot-like-valentine-1.1834518

  6. Yikes Mike The Situation throws out first pitch during spring training game that was last weeks game against the Astros "Awesome experience meeting all the mets n David WRight - My throw game will admit was a lil off lol." This from Lennon the other day The situation A little bit of Virginia Beach mixed with "The Jersey Shore" this past week when David Wright and Mike "The Situation" teamed to film a viral ad campaign for Vitamin Water. The theme of the ad, which launches April 1, involves Wright looking for a new trainer after last year's disappointing season. The Mets' third baseman picks The Situation, known on the show for his ripped physique and marathon tanning sessions. Wright said The Situation is not much of a baseball fan, but Jeff Francoeur did get an autographed photo for the Braves' Brian McCann, a Jersey Shore junkie.
  7. Listen, I was taking the piss a little and yeah vets get this courtesy and I don't want to make this a big deal as it's not but get the fuck out and pitch bitch, you were shit last season .
  8. Why bump Ollie? , is pitching in the rain not expected of him?
  9. Hurry , only one Estes left for $200
  10. I look at the Phillies five and there are some question marks too. 1. R. Halladay - 2009 - (Toronto) - 17 - 10 - 2.79 ERA - IP - 239 2. C. Hamels - 2009 - 10-11 - 4.32 ERA - IP - 193.2 3. J. Blanton - 2009 - 12 - 8 - 4.05 ERA - IP - 195.1 4. J. Happ - 2009 - 12 - 4 - 2.93 ERA - IP - 166 5. J. Moyer - 2009 - 12 - 10 - 4.9 ERA - IP - 162 6. K. Kendrick - 2009 - 3 - - 3.42 ERA - IP - 26.1 I list the innings pitched because this seems to have become a biggish deal in the media regarding the Mets , some are saying that this team needs to get 800+ innings for the starting rotation, actually I think that's from the top four. Going from 1 through 4 on the Phillies depth chart they combined last season for 793 innings , obviously Halladay was in the AL where he wouldn't get pulled as much as he might now, add Moyer to that and they combined for 955 innings. With Pelfrey and Perez I see two guys that can throw a hundred pitches in 5 plus innings and then they are done. I just don't see this bunch pitching 800 innings this season.
  11. WOW , we knew Coste was going but the other two is a surprise I suppose , performance wise maybe not though.
  12. Very worried about Pelfrey, wind aided or not if he keeps leaving the ball up he will get hammered every time out. I remember Peterson used to be always on him to keep his pitches down.
  13. Of course you did , I was only following up on the ridiculous articles that appeared last week regarding the Phillies brass having internal talks regarding such a move.
  14. 2nd place 88-74 playoffs via WC World Series Champs(sorry , couldn't help myself)

  20. About fucking time , now take down Gate 2 and stop the crying about how it's historic and should be preserved. Build the damn playing fields you promised the people there.
  21. Freak injury time! Derrek Lee hurts back in chair collapse By 'Duk I know Alex Remington was just writing on how Derrek Lee(notes) has been prone to injury the past few years, but this is ridiculous. According to manager Lou Piniella, Lee had just sat down for some pregame chow on Wednesday when the clubhouse chair beneath him decided to call it quits. The Cubs first baseman dusted himself off for an appearance in an exhibition game against the Rangers, but he left early to receive treatment for his 34-year-old back. From the Chicago Tribune: "He was eating before the game and the chair just collapsed on him," Piniella said. "That's why we got him out of there after three innings." Piniella said Lee was fine and would be back in the starting lineup Friday. To blatantly steal a joke from Lookout Landing, you're a loser if you had former Mariner Carlos Silva(notes) in your Cubs chair breaking pool. The newly-svelte Carlos Zambrano(notes) and Geovany Soto(notes), too. The sad part is that if Lee comes back on Friday, this won't rank very highly on the list of recent Cubs' freak injuries. Those candidates would include Sammy Sosa(notes) sneezing his way out of the lineup, Carlos Zambrano emailing his elbow out, Kerry Wood(notes) slipping near a hot tub, Alfonso Soriano(notes) hopping his way to an MRI and Ryan Dempster(notes) breaking his toe while jumping out of the dugout to celebrate. Some of those and more are detailed in an old post we did on other freak baseball injuries. It's clearly a jungle out there for some of these guys.
  22. I know Manuel is an easy target but I hope he does have a say in what happens to Mejia, if not what's the point? In fact I think I would trust him on this matter to do what is best, best for who I don't know.
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I Just tell me you're not going to be with those dopes out to embarrass the rest of us by rallying outside the TV studios. You know it's baseball season when you see Bucket jumping up and down in the street outside SNY's studio, even in the rain.
  24. Lennon on Nelly I think Nieve will be in the pen and Figueroa will go to Buffalo, despite his comments from the other day.
