  2. heyman Alderson today tells Mets employees his managerial list is long, suggesting process could take a while.
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: M.I. probably doesn't get the significance of the Alston inference. In the mid-'50s when then Brooklyn Dodger manager Charlie Dressen was coming off two consecutive pennants and asked for a multi-year contract he was told that the team did not give multi-year deals. When he insisted they told him to walk and, in his place, hired the relatively unknown Walter Alston who then proceeded to manage the Dodgers for 20-some very fruitful years all by way of 20-some consecutive 1-year deals. Granted that would never be done today but that was the reference. Speaking of HoF managers, word is out that Sparky Anderson has been placed by his family in hospice care due to complications from dementia. He is 76. I didn't , thanks for the info.
  4. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/39989425/ns/sports-player_news/ Signed just for the one year? , seems a bit bizarre. I guess Edwin does look rather old right there, smart move giving just the one year.

  6. I feel that there is now a long term view for the org, maybe there was before but I feel now it will get implemented.
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: String of bland field managers? Compensate with colorful spitfire (Wally, Bobby)????? Which would be funny because Howe could have been seen as the opposite of Valentine .
  8. Just heard Ricciardi on SNY , I didn't realize until I heard him speak that he's from the Boston area, pretty thick accent. Alderson said it was a family decision so he thank Ricciardi's wife and " one of his sons who I hear is a die-hard Mets fan".
  9. @AdamRubinESPNRicciardi calls it "a little bit of a homecoming" because he played two seasons of minor league ball with Mets Alderso to start interview process with internal guys Thursday through Friday
  10. Random thought here, the Mets are hiring some very smart people

  12. Geez Adam , no 60 Minutes for you.
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: All of the Mets coaches became "free agents" yesterday as their contracts ran out. Shines (and Dave Jauss) were Manuel guys, I am sure they both won't be back, so there wouldn't be firing, just not re-hiring. Hale may hang around to be re-hired as 3B coach or even manager, and Hojo and Niemann are expected to get jobs somewhere in the org but prolly not what they were. Hojo and Niemann could work at the new concession stands that Alderson will announce
  14. And why hold a press conference to fire Razor Shines?
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Matt Cerrone wrote: The Mets have announced a 5 pm conference for today with Alderson, according to the Daily News. One assumes it's not about the concession stands , OMFG, the wait will kill me.

  17. MLB Network is supposed to be airing the AFL all star game, not sure the date. Source: 7-year old little Solo, who watches MLBN religiously. (Seriously, last week he was looking through an old box of baseball cards and actually recognized Joe Magrane). Brad Holt and Jordany Valdespin will represent the Mets in that game Rubin says.
  18. Bobby will not be Brewers manager....... Dare I dream a dream Susan Boyle?
  19. Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times just tweeted that sources are saying that Brewers have hired Ron Roenicke to be their new manager. Cowley covers the White Sox, not the Brewers, but Chicago bench coach Joey Cora was in the mix for the Milwaukee job. Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel passed along Cowleys report and added: I have reason to believe he is correct. Roenicke managed in the minors and has served as the Angels bench coach since 2006, when he took over the job after Mike Scioscias former right-hand man, Joe Maddon, left to manage the Rays. Several previous reports had Bobby Valentine as the front-runner for the Milwaukee job, but apparently much like with the Marlins during the season his Brewers courtship broke down somewhere along the line. UPDATE: Haudricourt has confirmed the news.
  20. Just great , what a treasure he is.
  21. Centerfield wrote: I can only wonder how happy Mad Dog must be. I wish he and Francesa were still together so Mike would have to suffer through the gloating. Now there's a name rare;ly mentioned anymore.....Mad Dog, anyone listen to him?
  22. 51 what would be considered average for him? Would MLB suspect collusion by the Mets here is he got close but didn't get the required #?
  23. Kris Benson SP Mike Hampton these two are still at it? did I see Russ Springer's name in there? Regarding Feliciano , from Rubin 1) Mets must offer salary arbitration by midnight on Nov.23 for right to draft pick compensation 2)Pedro must accept arb by Nov. 30. The Mets are still permitted to sign Pedro even if they don't offer arb 3) Offering arb to Feliciano to get pick between first and second round means you are willing to go to arb with him , and he made $2.9 million in 2010...... Other The non tender deadline for players with less than 6 years service is Dec. 2nd - John Maine will be cut by then and probably Green too. NEW RULE New Rule for 2010 - Free Agents may negotiate with any club at midnight on the 5th day after the World Series, bidding begins on Saturday night.
  24. Guy who was never a Met but who I always thought would be Rich Aurilia
