His splits vs. LHBs are fantastic. I suspect the Alex Torres trade was more for generic relief with Black looking iffy for opening day healthwise. Also, I think they're probably a little concerned with Mejia, results-wise and need the depth where they can get it. I just looked up the splits and I agree. Torres provides depth in the bullpen (and may just happen to be a lefty) while Blevins is the LHB killer. I guess the dream ends for Gilmartin. What happens when Black and Parnell return? Does Carlyle go away?
  3. So now we have a bevy of lefties? I never thought Blevins was anything more than average...but have never really watched him all that closely.
  4. I don't know about you guys, but this is how normal New Era Official caps look on me since they went away from wool some years back.
  5. Didn't see the PTBNL on the original report...no clue who it might be. Also, thanks for the split. When in doubt, I try not to create new threads.
  6. I find it odd that Montero is still starting in the spring if they are bringing him north with the pen. I know that all brass wants him to be a starter eventually and that Gee is still being shopped according to "sources" this morning, but now that the bullpen lefty has been acquired, is Gee really going anywhere this week? It's hard not to love what Montero gave today.
  7. 2 run KABOOM for Duda. 2-0 good guys.
  8. Montero perfect through three...any chance he steals that 5th starter spot?
  9. He is certainly better than nothing. I'm happy with this deal.
  10. Per Metsblog: Mets trade for Alex Torres from San Diego What they gave up has not yet been reported. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/torreal01.shtml OE: He's the dude with the protective pitcher's cap. Double Edit: The Mets gave up RHP prospect Cory Mazzoni.
  11. Rubin says "sources" prefer Muno. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/99802/source-mets-prefer-danny-muno-to-reynolds Seems like the gist is that they want Reynolds to play everyday at AAA and not ride the pine in the majors.
  12. Part of me hopes that Reynolds comes north, blows folks away and then sticks with the team.
  13. That 1-8 is a pretty realistic Opening Day lineup.
  14. Part 1: YES or NO 1) Curtis Granderson leads the club in HRs? (any ties count as a win for the YES answers) NO 2) Jenrry Mejia leads in saves? (same deal if there's a tie) YES Will be on the team's ML roster (or DL) the entire season? 3) Dillon Gee NO 4) Bartolo Colon NO 5) Travis d'Arnaud YES 6) Anthony Recker NO 7) Daniel Murphy NO 8) Ruben Tejada NO 9) Jonathon Niese YES 10) Terry Collins (has to be field manager for a YES to count - if demoted but stays in the org with a "special assistant" title or other such nonsense it doesn't count) YES Part 2: OVER/UNDER 11) Lucas Duda -- 29.5 HRs UNDER 12) Michael Cuddyer -- 119.5 Starts OVER 13) Jenrry Mejia -- 19.5 Saves OVER 14) Wilmer Flores -- 449.5 PAs OVER 15) Bartolo Colon -- 17.5 Starts OVER 16) David Wright -- 21.5 HRs (22 or more would surpass Straw's club record) UNDER 17) Kirk Nieuwenhuis -- 199.5 PAs UNDER 18) Noah Syndergaard -- 19.5 ML Starts UNDER 19) Steven Matz -- 9.5 ML Starts UNDER 20) Brandon Nimmo - 49.5 ML PAs UNDER EITHER/OR - simply name one player or the other in each comparison 21) More PAs w/2015 NYM: Murphy or Herrera? Murphy 22) More PAs: Nieuwenhuis or Mayberry? Mayberry 23) More PAs: d'Arnaud or Plawecki? d'Arnaud 24) More Saves: Parnell or Familia? Parnell 25) More IPs: Gilmartin or Leathersich? Gilmartin
  15. Close but no cigar. 5-4 Loss.
  16. Harvey is awesome. My expectations for him are so high and my doubt that he will fall short of them is low.
  17. I think of "douchey" as being obnoxious and/or attracting undue attention. I agree that Matt is not mean-spirited.
  18. Things I think about Harvey: 1. He is the best pitcher I've seen in a Mets uniform over the past 30 years. 2. If he wasn't wearing a Mets uniform, he would be one of my least favorite MLB players due to his machismo and douchiness. I plan on riding the Harvey train as far as his arm will take the Mets and I hope they win a WS or three with him. But, I believe the window where Harvey benefits the Mets the most is over the next four years, so I'm not worried about where he goes (or doesn't go) after that.
  19. I have a feeling the loss of Wheeler for the year is going to hurt my fantasy team more than it will the Mets. I feel their pain, though. With him, I felt like I had some starting pitching depth. Without him...yikes!
  20. Do you guys know how much it virtually costs to have a virtual jet on standby to pick up a virtual Robinson Cano to fly him to a virtual press conference to announce that I had virtually signed him to my virtual team, but that I had to virtually cancel this morning? Virtually nothing. But my virtual fans are pissed.
  21. From the small bits I've seen from him, I worry about his CAHN-fidence and attitude on the mound more than I worry about his stuff. Maybe I'm spoiled from watching Harvey be so fearless when he starts, but Noah seems to have a little Pelfrey in him. I'm hoping he can fight through that. I'm happy that we have the arms and won't have to rush him. I say give him as much AAA work as we can and ease him in slowly when the majors call. I'm not banking on any significant contributions from him until 2016.
  22. I'm not sweating it since we have such a stockpile of starters. It makes Sandy look good for not letting Gee go for just anything. I'm hoping this won't effect Wheeler's availability for any of 2016...but I fear it probably will.
  23. Josh Edgin to have elbow surgery Ugh.
  24. On second thought... http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/98646/wheeler-sent-for-mri-after-all
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I don't see why anyone expects anything of Parnell, other than to enforce the unwritten rules of baseball and lunch. Exactly.
