  1. He was laboring in the 8th. Three ball counts to 3 of the 4 batters faced. Honestly, I would have pulled him too based on the eye ball test. I don't believe it to be pitch count related. The kid was just gassed.
  2. Ace of the staff so far this season? For my money, he's been every bit as good as Harvelous (which is not knocking what Matt has been doing in any way). His last few starts have been works of art.
  3. Per Rubin: Duda has "right knee stiffness after getting hit by a pitch Sunday."
  4. With all of the middling teams on the Mets' schedule over the next month, now is the time to strike!
  5. Looks like a 2011 Niese who gives up more home runs while recording fewer strikeouts. Worries here.
  6. If Parnell's career as we once knew it were on the table in the ER, how long would it be before Clooney looked up at the clock and pronounced it dead? Adam Rubin wrote: Working on a second straight night for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2014, rehabbing Bobby Parnell allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while recording only one out. Seven straight batters reached before he was pulled.
  7. Frustrating. My heart sank when they only scored one in the first. I figured it would come back to haunt them.
  8. I like the dropping of the struggling Lagares in the order. Not sure about replacing him with Tejada...but I'd love him to make me sure.
  9. Megdal seems to be saying, "It's not just me, guys."
  10. To me, the only potentially alarming thing about the article is the sentence that batmags bolded....specifically the "60 days" part. I can see conspiracy therorists raising a stink if David comes back shortly after June 15th, looks as good as new and has no other issues for the remainder of the year (not that I agree). Otherwise, like others have said, insurance is common for high dollar players these days.

  13. As of today's win, the Mets are 21-6 (.778) against sub .500 teams and 6-15 (.286) against teams above .500 If my math is correct, they play 26 of their next 29 games against sub .500 teams. Eventually, they will need to learn to play with the big boys...but for the next month, I look forward to them beating the crap out of the second division clubs.
  14. I'm not saying Wilmer has been great at routine plays, but I do think he's gotten better in recent weeks. If he can stop booting balls right at him, I'm OK with him not being able to cover a ton of ground. Flores has as many HRs as any other ML SS and (especially on this team) that's not nothing.
  15. I enjoy watching Flores as a hitter and I am slowly becoming a fan. He is not perfect defensively, but if he can make the routine plays and hit 25 HRs, I can live with limited range.
  16. During his time in Milwaukee he was a fan favorite for being a "gamer". He had a good year last season in Miami, but has been up and down offensively over his career. I'm guessing the sticking point would be salary as he's due the remainder of a $4.8M salary for 2015...that seems a little rich for Sandy's blood, even if David needs to miss a major amount of time. His poor showing so far this season makes it riskier. It should be interesting to see if he clears waivers. I'm not sure off the top of my head who may be interested at that price.
  17. I did add this book to my future reading list thanks to its mention in the broadcast booth today, though.
  18. I feel like Recker should be the starting catcher until d'Arnaud returns. Plawecki just looks lost at the plate right now (not that he's the only one).
  19. They bought a lot of leeway in the standings with that 11 game win streak. 11-18 and consistently putrid on offense since, tho.
  20. Wins by WAS and ATL to go with the NYM loss today. The Mets are now closer to third than they are to first in the NL East.
  21. This team is infuriating to watch right now. Also, anything Tulo could give us (and I'm not sure it is as much as we think) would be wasted on this team. They are more than one or a few guys away from being contenders right now.
  22. With that Mets lineup, Niese better be better than he has been of late. A no-hitter would be nice...and possibly necessary.
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: How about Flores to third, Reynolds to short? This was my first thought. We have an infield full of thirdbasemen...why not try to find options at SS?
