  1. Friday. 4PM ET, IIRC.
  2. I'm loving all of the platoon options and the attitude of starting the hot hitters. Sorry, Lagares and Flores.
  3. Agreed. I was just having some fun with him after JCL brought him up earlier today...should have said so. I like Rubin.
  4. Rubin can't even find a pic of Tyler Clippard.
  5. I think this is another pretty nice deal. My outlook on this team is much more favorable today than it was a week ago.

  7. I disliked him more in that Nats pen.
  8. Yeah...I consider Wheeler part of the Mets plan going forward. If Wheeler can fully recover from TJ, I salivate thinking of being able to start a young flamethrower that can hit 94 MPH or more in every single game (barring injury, regression, YYYBBB). Add Familia to the back end (along with Parnell and Mejia if they continue to improve and be effective) and HOLY MOLY it would be like hitting the gas on every opposing team and very rarely taking the foot off.
  9. Ceetar wrote: you pretty much gotta lean on Mejia heavily down the stretch right? completely burn him out? Oh yeah. Really, that is the rest of his punishment for getting caught using PEDs. If he's effective, he's got to be used as much as possible down the stretch. Terry will need to figure out where that breaking point is to avoid injury and ineffectiveness.
  10. I gotta fever and the only prescription is more bullpen.
  11. Wheeler's too much to give for either of those, IMO. Plus he's on the DL.
  12. I hit the MOFO in '98 or '99. I cannot begin to explain what a wonderful place that was (and this is) for a guy who loves the Mets from afar.
  13. Great game! The Mets went 4-6 through that "gauntlet" of first place teams after the All-Star break but are right back where they started...just 2 games back of the Nats.

YUK Not only did he crap on this game, he also didn't exactly show himself off as a player another team might want in a trade. If fact, the only bad thing he didn't do is machine gun a litter of puppies on National Television. Niese's performance is on Terry. There is no way he should have let Niese pitch while his wife was due to give birth at any moment. It's really hard for me to blame Niese in any way for letting this one get away. Baseball players are not emotionless cyborgs. Part of a manager's job is weighing a player's focus due to outside influences when filling out the lineup card and deciding on pitching matchups.
  15. I like this deal a lot.
  16. RealityChuck wrote: Who do they give up? Harvey, DeGrom, or Syndergaard? None of the above. Niese has a 2.28 ERA in his last 8 starts and has a very reasonable contract beyond this season. I have to think he has some legitimate value right now.
  17. His Twitter feed is full of WWE references. It's hard to imagine him costing too much in trade. He looks more comfortable in RF or LF (only 19 career starts in CF). But the 2015 Juan Lagares in CF is not the 2014 Juan Lagares in CF, either. He would make the outfield very left-leaning when added to Conforto, Newwy and Granderson.
  18. Tonight's pitcher Ian Thomas is left handed, so I'm guessing Conforto could be used as a pinch hitter later in the game. Hard to see him debuting in the starting lineup against a lefty. OE: His small sample size against lefties at AA are not bad at all, though.
  19. Right...or that Conforto stumbles de-boarding the plane in New York and breaks something.
  20. Ceetar wrote: We maybe should wait until the end of the season to see if the front office failed or not. At least until the end of this week. It'd be hard to accept doing absolutely nothing, even if David Wright managed to get into a rehab game in that time (he won't) and hit a HR. and d'Arnaud was activated and Cuddyer said his knee felt magically fine. (although if all three of those things happen the Mets probably make the playoffs) *Bolding mine. Given the uncertainty around Wright's injury and Cuddyer's ineffectiveness even before his injury, I'm not sure "probably" is the word I would use there. "More likely"? Maybe. I'm ready for d'Arnaud to return whenever he is.
  21. Ceetar wrote: It hasn't worked out, but why should we assume it won't going forward?
  22. Centerfield wrote: It sickens me that we've gone through 5 years of rebuilding to end up here. I don't know that 2015 was ever supposed to be year one of the post-rebuild. Not that it makes it any less sickening, though.
  23. MFS62 wrote: But if he were to stay out the entire year, the Mets would get a pro-rated portion of his salary from their insurance carrier. It represents several million dollars the team could use to help them obtain a good player. Wright only had to be out for 60 days before the insurance funds could be claimed. That money is already back in the Mets' pocket (and from what Sandy says, won't help). My biggest takeaway from Sandy Alderson was that he told reporters at Citi Field, that the insurance money the Mets have recouped from David Wrights deal, wont allow them more financial flexibility in trades. The Mets received roughly $15 million dollars of the $20 million Wright was owed for 2015. http://metsmerizedonline.com/2015/07/david-wright-on-track-to-begin-baseball-activities-next-week.html/
